Nick writes:“Heb 2.4″,God also testifying with them both by signs and wonders and by various miracles and by gifts of the Holy Spirit according to His own will”So where does it state these gifts have been withdrawn?”NOWHERE IN THIS VERSE NICK. BUT I NEVER SAID THIS VERSE WAS SAYING THAT. What does this scripture say though?…[Read more]

Sorry Nick, I took this as a question:”So it must be true that there are plenty still within the whore of Babylon that God has chosen and is is calling.”I should have asked what your point was istead of saying: Why do you ask?

Why do you ask?
david replied to the topic The gift of tongues in the forum Scriptural Teachings 21 years ago
OK. Sure. Let's start at the beginning then and take this very very slow. Why were those miraculous gifts given Nick? What does the Bible say?Actually, let's slow down a bit and go back earlier. What does the Bible tell us about why miracles are usually performed?–Most basic, they helped to establish or confirm the fact that a man was receiving…[Read more]

Yes, “come out of her MY people.”Perhaps in addition to having a topic that covers false relgion, we should have a topic to discuss the “my people” in this verse, God's people.

Hi Nick. I'm new to the idea that there are people in the world other than Jehovah's Witnesses who believe that the righteous will live on a paradise earth. Sure there are a couple of groups, but in general, it's not a common belief somehow. However, the idea that no human will ever go to heaven at any time is one that I still can't believe you…[Read more]

I can. But I don't want to.I'm going to bed. Actually, why don't we make this a little more interesting. What light does the Bible shed on the birthday celebration? How does the God's Word and history portray birthdays? (2 Tim 3:16,17) Where do the customs come from? The cake? The candles? The wish? The birthday greetings? What do the…[Read more]

In “Understanding the holy spirit,” Ramblinrose gave this reference:www.geocities.com/Athens/Olympus/5257/indwelli.htmSome of it is as follows:””Love never ends. But as for prophecies, they will come to an end; as for tongues, they will cease; as for knowledge, it will come to an end. For we know partially and we prophesy partially; but when the…[Read more]

Nick continues:”'The Spirit power is not seen so the Spirit has been withdrawn'In fact the promise is given to “all who are afar off, as many as the Lord our God shall call to Himself” .”Not at all Nick. I see the power of the holy spirit at work in people all the time. It's the same “free gift of the holy spirit” mentioned in the Acts 2:38.…[Read more]

Nick further stated:”They have no scriptural evidence for such statements but rely on experience and human wisdom.”Exactly the opposite is true. Nick is the one relying on his own experiences and sences and somehow is blind to what the scriptures say about the gifts of the spirit.

Nick wrote:”Many have listened to rationalisations that say the the Spirit was only given for the first 100 years.”If you are referring to something I wrote, I think we should clarify what you're saying. The SPECIAL MIRACULOUS GIFTS OF THE SPIRIT which were intended for a purpose and which fulfilled their purpose (HEB 2:2-4)–these are the…[Read more]

Hey Nick.I'm not sure what you're getting at with the armadillos. Simple logic however tells us that if we're told most of the equation, we can figure out the rest. For example, if God tells us to love our fellowman, do we have to be commanded not to kill people?Let's look at this one more time, shall we. This time, we'll look at some things we…[Read more]

If we're told that a + b = c, and told what a and b is, do we have to directly be told what c is?We are told why those special gifts were given. We know that they fulfilled their purpose. We are told they would cease.david.ps.I'm not great at math. If I'm wrong, let me know.

Thinking of that love, kindness, self-control, etc, Eliyah, notice this verse:JAMES 1:26“If any man seems to himself to be a formal worshiper and yet does not bridle his tongue, but goes on deceiving his own heart, this man’s form of worship is futile.”The name calling and what appears to be angry thoughts has always bothered me.Maybe I've been…[Read more]

What gives evidence that a person really has the holy spirit?Luke 4:18, 31-35: “ ‘Jehovah’s spirit is upon me, because he anointed me to declare good news’ . . . And he went down to Capernaum, a city of Galilee. And he was teaching them on the sabbath; and they were astounded at his way of teaching, because his speech was with authority. Now in…[Read more]

Eliyah said:”David,Is He that which is PERFECT COME YET( 1 Cor.13:10?”Now I get to play your role and tell you Eliyah that you totally ignored my post that discussed that scripture. Maybe I should have wrote: Not every scripture applies directly to everyone, instead of writing: Not every scripture applies to everyone.Don't get me wrong, all scripture is beneficial. I'm saying not all scripture directly applies to everyone. We have other scriptures that must give us pause when looking at 1 Cor 14:5.

“I wish that you all spoke in tongues.” ?Paul was writing to the congregation of God that was in Corinth. They had a specific problem.
