The name “Jesus” means “Jehovah saves.” Why is Christ's name Jesus if He is not Jehovah and Savior? The name “Jesus” does NOT belong to the Father.

    Hi TT,
Why would you think Jesus was his Father God YHWH because of his name YAHSHUA?

Who do you think ELI-JAH is then?

    Nick,
The name “Jesus” means “Jehovah saves.” It is NOT the Father's name. The name belongs to Christ ALONE! I challenge you to disprove this.

    Hi TT,
So Jesus is not his own God?

    Nick,
The name “Jesus” means “Jehovah saves.” It is NOT the name of the Father. No where in Scripture is the Father called “Jesus” (Jehovah saves).

    Hi TT,
    Exactly.
YHWH is God and Jesus is the Son of God.

Why do you get him muddled up with his Dad?

    Hi TT,
    Great .
So you know the Father is differentiated from the Son?
Such differentiation occurs throughout the OT and the NT.

They are not PARTS of a trinity god.

What do you think the name Joshua means?

The English name Joshua is a rendering of the Hebrew: יהושע‎, “Yehoshua,” meaning means “Yahweh is Salvation,” “Yahweh delivers,” or “Yahweh rescues” from the Hebrew root ישע, “salvation,” “to deliver/be liberated,” or “to be victorious”[2] “salvation.”

    So what were you saying?

    bd,
I knew you were going to bring up Joshua. Do you think I was not ready for that ? Note what Hebrews says about Joshua,

    Quote
For if Joshua had given them rest, then he would not afterward have spoken of another day (Heb. 4:8)

Joshua could not deliver salvation to the people. Jesus did. Show me from the new Testament where the Father is called by the name “Jesus” (Jehovah saves).

    Hi TT,
The point BD makes is valid.

You say Jesus is YHWH because of the meaning of his name but you will not accept that Joshua is YWHW by the same reasoning though the name is identical.

You have reached another dead end.

Jesus is the Son of YHWH.

    Nick,
The point bd makes is not at all valid. Joshua did not bring the people into God's rest. Jesus did. The angel said that His name was to be called “Jesus” because He “SHALL save” His people from their sins. Joshua never did this. Furthermore, the angel committed idolatry by anti-trinitarian standards. For the angel said that we are “HIS” (Christ's) people. Yet God says “You are MY people.”

Therefore, Jesus is God just as His name indicates.

Did Isaiah die for the sins of his people? All names have their complete fulfillment and realization in Christ. The child was called “Jesus” because “He SHALL save.”

You said the name speaks for itself but you move the goal post everytime your folly is exposed.

All prophets that died, died for the sins of his people.

Wrong Nick. My point was always about the actions which the name indicates. Read this thread over again. Did you notice that bd now says that the prophets died for the sins of peple? Some of you anti-trinitarians will say anything to avoid giving Jesus His due allegiance.

Will you no longer take responsibility for these words of yours?

” Why is Christ's name Jesus if He is not Jehovah and Savior?”

That is also the name of Joshua
