    Hi,
So apostasy was in progress and Origen helped it along.

    Hi t8,
He seems to have been an earnest and conscientious man whose personal fruit incurs no judgement. His teachings appear to be an honest attempt to extract truth from the scriptures he loved. He was a theologian thirsty for knowledge but perhaps less so for wisdom.
He appears to have been intimately aligned with the traditional teachings [eg infant baptism] and church authorities though he was not in vogue with all the local leaders all the time. He seemed to be perhaps too strict and narrow on scriptural interpretation in needing to see spiritual things in scripture even at the expense of the natural and to be too open to extrascriptual influences tending towards gnosticism.
I do not see him so far teaching on the need to be reborn and to see the works of God continuing among men and yet this is the heart of the gospel rather than just knowledge about God and spiritual things.

God is practical, not intellectual and He demands we too seek to be His vessels, rather than experts on His nature.

He got some things right but lost the plot on others and to this extent his influence continues today.

I offer these few thoughts to start the ball rolling.

He was no theologian, he was one of the worst of all philosophers.

you know it does not really matters who you are ,whatever you did good ,there will be always someone or class of people to find something to disqualify you for whatever you may have done right.

it was true in Jesus case,it was true in Paul s case, and i am sure there were lots of others,it as become a common practice today,
this is why we are so divided in Christ, and think about this ;Paul add only the OT scrolls ,no dictionary, computers, sheets of paper at will, ink at will, all today corner store items.
at the time of Origen ,being in Alexandria was a commodity ,but sill ,the knowledge of today is so common regarding scriptures and explanations there are tonnes of info on the Internet that you cannot swallowing it all even if you take 20 years or more.
as for Origen view on God the father the son and the Holy spirit ,i personally i read most in other language,i do believe that his view was not trinitarian, but more of important beings and partaking in God arrangement,
Origen ad his enemies and suffer for is faith,in my view a man work for the Lord show much for him, what he thinks what he stands for, many of is writings have been lost,we do not have any scholars today who are willing to wright books only for a mattress on the floor and a boll of soup.
and like i say this is my reflection some have already show there views very different of mine.but so it is ,since the beginning.

    my thoughts

did you notice the the Origen is known around the world even after 1800 years ,the love this man had for his God and his son must have been good because God blessed him just like he did Peter,Paul,John ,and many others ,

    this is not topical ,

I think in the case of someone who lived in the 200s, it is hard to judge by fruit. Origen left his doctrine , wisdom, and teaching in written form and we have scripture to judge that by.

Also, he wrote not in English, so his writings have been interpreted and like the Bible, some see the Trinity because they want to see it. Origen certainly said that there is a Father, a son, and the Spirit. That is not advocating the Trinity, that is telling it how it is. Even scripture says that there is a Father, Son, and Spirit.

To say that he taught the Trinity, then he would have had to teach that they were all co-equal members of one God. If someone can show where Origen taught that then show it here please.

Also, those who judge such men as deceivers or unwise or whatever, pass that same standard of judgement to themselves. If you are comfortable with that, then that is your choice to make.

why did you not look of his live history what is known in part and see were you would have done a better job ,and you do not even believe in the bible ,Origen had to fight for ,separate the fake from the true written words ,not counting all the ones that have no understanding in scriptures just like you you fighting the truth in scriptures and yet you have everything served on a plate or desk accessed with the click of a finger ,

no devotion or fruits there ,

but what about if they would have ad your own father burned in a public place as heretic ,what would you have done ??? find out what Origen did .

for years on he took scribes to dictate all his understandings ,and findings and give them to another man ,he only took a bed and a bowl of food for it

he was tortured so badly that it causes his dead ,
he had also many students some known some not ,

    and I passing things,

He was not fame while he was alive ,just like Paul and Peter and John
it is a God given fame ,

the name NICK HASSAN, would it stand that long ???

and for what ??? for not believing in the written word of God ???

Giving your body to be burned does not cut any ice with God.

Will we not all give an account of our lives.
It is not wise to judge one another in this way.
For the same measure you judge, so it will be for you.
It is better for us to judge teachings rather than servants of God.
These servants are not our servants for a start.
