n English we use masculine (he), feminine (she) and neuter (it). But, in Hebrew all things are either masculine or feminine, there is no neuter. So, we may say “it is a tree” in Hebrew it would be “hu ets” (he is a tree). All things in Hebrew are either masculine or feminine. God is neither male nor female but he is both. This may sound contradictory but the Hebrew mind often seems contradictory from our perspective of western thought. In Genesis it states that God created both male and female in his image, I do not believe this is speaking in physcial terms but in character. The male received half of God's character while the female received the other half, hence marriage is the bringing together of the two to make a whole. Since God has the character or quality of both male and female it is grammatically mandated that it be identified in the masculine form for the following reason. The Hebrew word for boy is yeled, the Hebrew word for boys is yelediym. The Hebrew word for girl is yal'dah and the Hebrew word for girls is yeledot. But if the group of children are boys and girls you always use the masculine yelediym. The masculine form always takes over if the group is of both masculine and feminine. In Genesis 1:27 it states, and God filled the man with his shadow, with his shadow God filled him, male and female he filled them. In this verse it is clear God took a part of himself and placed it within both men and women, some of his attributes went to the man while others went into the woman.
Another good example is the Hebrew word for “God Almighty” in Genesis chapter 17 is actually “El Shaddai”. When translated literally El Shaddai doesn't mean “God almighty”, but rather “mighty teets”. While this may sound odd, or even offensive to western readers, it actually has a beautiful meaning within the culture of the ancient Hebrews. The teets were used to supply milk to the children, which was crucial for life. Just as how milk is given from a mother to her children in order to feed them, so too God nourishes his children in a very loving manner, similar to that of a mother caring and nurturing her children.

Hello Martian,This topic is becoming funny. You were able to go to AHRC and do all this research but couldn't come back with WHAT “Spirit” is in Genesis 1:2.
Even after some simple instructions in “How To”.
Another person is upset that I am trying to help him learn how to research words….and couldn't do it.
This thread was very limited to ONE verse Genesis 1:2 and it seems that was too difficult….and even upsetting.

David! Word search or not, it is funny? You seem to want it your way or no way…..Jesus in Luke explaines it what the Spirit is, but you want to go to Genesis. Well maybe you should have told us that it only goes your way……Pierre is right, maybe more should just ignore you from now on….IreneSeptember 5, 2010 at 8:56 pm#215147davidbfunParticipantHello Irene,
I posted another thread to explain WHY I asked everyone to do their own word search.
Since you said you didn't know “HOW” to do a word search I thought I was “helping” by giving you step by step instructions.
Knowing how to do this will help here or anytime that you need to look something up and you don't need to be able to read Hebrew or Greek.
I am sorry that you and Pierre are offended at me trying to give assistance….I won't do that in the future.
If you had bothered to look up Spirit Elohim to find out that it is a feminine noun, no one could be posting falsehoods that Spirit is God, the “Father”….or that Spirit is Jesus, the “son”.
Since Spirit Elohim is feminine the only “person” that could be God the Father is YHWH Elohim the masculine essence of Elohim. But this is irrelevant.
I've tried to warn you about false teachings and asked that you research it for yourself.
The false teacher will continue to bombard you with half-truths and misquotes and flood you with the numbers of the beast. All to try to cause doubt and confusion….as well as waste your time.

Why even engage in something that is pointless; I call what your doing blasphemy. As I said on another post, you show a mans face, call yourself David, and say you're a blond; do you have problems with your own identity?
What does the “bfun” stand for? be fun to be a man maybe?Georg
September 7, 2010 at 4:12 pm#215303davidbfunParticipantHi Georg,
You're right, it appears that here on hn “trying” to enlighten people about the Bible is pointless.
And quoting Scripture is blasphemous.
Even trying to help people in “how to research/study” is forwned upon.
Blasphemy is showing disrespect or irreverence to God and by denying an important essence of God/Elohim, “Spirit Elohim” you are committing the worst:
Mat 12:31 “Therefore I say to you, any sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven people, but blasphemy against the Spirit shall not be forgiven.
Peace and love,
September 8, 2010 at 4:16 pm#215479davidbfunParticipantAll,
To those that think that Spirit Elohim is a part of YHWH how could anyone commit the “unpardonable” sin? Your way, they would be sinning against YHWH but this Scripture isn't saying that…it is saying that you can blasphemy/sin against Spirit (Elohim)….who is a separate and distinct “person” than YHWH.
Mat 12:31 “Therefore I say to you, any sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven people, but blasphemy against the Spirit shall not be forgiven.
Mat 12:32 “Whoever speaks a word against the Son of Man, it shall be forgiven him; but whoever speaks against the Holy Spirit, it shall not be forgiven him, either in this age or in the age to come.
