Jesus did not die on Friday, he died on Thursday. Actually there are two Sabbaths” under consideration, and they are referenced by Mathew's account. Matthew 28:1 In the end of the sabbatwn [sabbaths(pl)], as it began to dawn toward the first day of the week, came Mary Magdalene and the other Mary to see the sepulchre.
Since Jesus was raised on the first day of the week, after TWO Sabbaths, one Saturday, and one Friday, it was Thursday on which he died.
According to the Law of Moses, the day following Passover (which is also the first day of the feast of unleavened bread) is also, always a Sabbath day of rest to be observed like the 7th day weekly Sabbath no matter what day of the week it falls on. So there are two Sabbaths referenced by the New Testament writers.
14th day = First one
Lev 23:4 These are the feasts of the LORD, even holy convocations, which ye shall proclaim in their seasons. 5 In the fourteenth day of the first month at even is the LORD'S passover. The day FOLLOWING Passover [the first day of the feast of unleavened bread, is also a Sabbath of rest and feasting. It is to be observed as any other sabbath of the Lord.
15th day = second one
Lev 23:6 And on the fifteenth day of the same month is the feast of unleavened bread unto the LORD: seven days ye must eat unleavened bread. 7 In the first day ye shall have an holy convocation: ye shall do no servile work therein. 8 But ye shall offer an offering made by fire unto the LORD seven days: in the seventh day is an holy convocation: ye shall do no servile work therein.14th & 15th together
Num 28:16 And in the fourteenth day of the first month is the passover of the LORD. 17 And in the fifteenth day of this month is the feast: seven days shall unleavened bread be eaten. 18 In the first day shall be an holy convocation; ye shall do no manner of servile work therein:It was not the fact of “Sabbath” that was important, but rather the fact it was “Passover” that attracted Jesus to this time and this place. And the day following Passover is always a Sabbath of rest.
June 1, 2009 at 3:46 pm#132129CindyParticipantPalidin Since we belonged to the World Wide Church of God for 10 years, we celebrated all the Feast days, you mentioned.
Since Thursday was the the first day of unleavened bread, the preparation day was Wednesday, Jesus died at three on Wednesday, and was buried at sundown the same evening, that is when you start counting.
Wednesday Night to Thurs. one, Thurs.Night to Friday Night two, Friday Night to Saturday Night 3.
Thursday 1, Friday 2, Saturday 3,
He rose at evening on Saturday, so when Maria and Maria Magdalene went to the grave early in the morning, Jesus was not there, and had risen.
Please understand that evening to evening is one day according to the Jewish Calendar and God. That IMO what happened.

Thank you Cindy, for the information. With your permission, I shall print it out and put it with my notes, for verification.(I even reverify my own notes. Nothing personal)
I do appreciate anything that helps toward understanding this very mush misunderstood question of three days and three nights.

It just occurred to me, when you say you celebrated the same feasts, was that a reference to today's calendar? Or is it a reference to the calendar in force when Jesus died?June 1, 2009 at 6:39 pm#132139bodhithartaParticipantQuote (Paladin @ June 02 2009,03:09) Jesus did not die on Friday, he died on Thursday. There was no 3 days and 3 nights nor was that the sign of Jonah that Jesus was referring to.Mark 15
39And when the centurion, which stood over against him, saw that he so cried out, and gave up the ghost, he said, Truly this man was the Son of God.
40There were also women looking on afar off: among whom was Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James the less and of Joses, and Salome;
41(Who also, when he was in Galilee, followed him, and ministered unto him;) and many other women which came up with him unto Jerusalem.
42And now when the even was come, because it was the preparation, that is, the day before the sabbath,
43Joseph of Arimathaea, an honourable counsellor, which also waited for the kingdom of God, came, and went in boldly unto Pilate, and craved the body of Jesus.
44And Pilate marvelled if he were already dead: and calling unto him the centurion, he asked him whether he had been any while dead.
45And when he knew it of the centurion, he gave the body to Joseph.
46And he bought fine linen, and took him down, and wrapped him in the linen, and laid him in a sepulchre which was hewn out of a rock, and rolled a stone unto the door of the sepulchre.
47And Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of Joses beheld where he was laid.
Mark 16
1And when the sabbath was past, Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James, and Salome, had bought sweet spices, that they might come and anoint him.2And very early in the morning the first day of the week, they came unto the sepulchre at the rising of the sun.
3And they said among themselves, Who shall roll us away the stone from the door of the sepulchre?
4And when they looked, they saw that the stone was rolled away: for it was very great.
5And entering into the sepulchre, they saw a young man sitting on the right side, clothed in a long white garment; and they were affrighted.
6And he saith unto them, Be not affrighted: Ye seek Jesus of Nazareth, which was crucified: he is risen; he is not here: behold the place where they laid him.
If you read carefully you will see that it was the preperation day for the sabbath and then after the sabbath they went to the tomb early on the first day of the week and he was already risen. The truth is he was only in the tomb during the sabbath.
The sigh of Jonah was not 3 days and 3 nights, I will tell you if you want.

In three days is not the same as saying 3 days and 3 nights is it?June 1, 2009 at 9:03 pm#132152bodhithartaParticipantMark 15 & 16 show that from the time Jesus placed in the tomb till the time the women came to the tomb was 24 hours. There are no 3 days involved at all. The scripture is clear here but how many will believe the scripture over what they have been made to believe?
There is no use in trying to make multiple sabbaths and so forth because the scripture clearly says it was the preparation day and then the Sabbath and then the first day of the week. so no wednesday, thursday interpretation holds water. This was definitely a 24 – 36 hour event and the Sabbath is 24 of those hours evening and morning and it cannot be accounted as partial periods because the Sabbath is Holy it is complete in itself.
June 1, 2009 at 9:28 pm#132155CindyParticipantBodhitharta You are so wrong, ask any Jew and He will tell you that there are Sabbaths and there are Sabbaths. Did you ever celebrated all. We did in the W.W.C. of God. And Scripture does give you all the Feast in Lev.23 study them and you will see. Math. 12:40 does say, that Jesus was in the grave, like Jonah was in the belly of a FISH. 3days and 3 nights. How Jonah stayed alive is a ? Mark. Do you believe that maybe, just maybe God helped Him out? To deny Scripture tho is not wise, my friend.

Every week when the sun goes down friday evening to the sun goes down saturday evening I keep the Sabbath just like every practicing Jew does. What I was saying is that Jonah was ALIVE in the belly of the fish. Jonah was never dead.
Muslims believe that God Saved Jesus from death just as Jesus asked him to. Jesus said when he was asking God to raise Lazarus that God always listens to him.
June 1, 2009 at 10:20 pm#132159Worshipping JesusParticipantHi all!
How do you reconcile all the scriptures that indicate it could not have been litterally 72 hours.
If Jesus was meaning a litteral 72 hr period, then please explain the following…
Lk 24:1
Now upon the first day of the week, very early in the morning, they came unto the sepulchre, bringing the spices which they had prepared, and certain others with them.LK 24:13
And, behold, two of them went that *same day* (the 1st day of the week) to a village called Emmaus, which was from Jerusalem about threescore furlongs.
14 And they talked together of all these things which had happened.
15 And it came to pass, that, while they communed together and reasoned, Jesus himself drew near, and went with them.
16 But their eyes were holden that they should not know him.
17 And he said unto them, What manner of communications are these that ye have one to another, as ye walk, and are sad?
21 But we trusted that it had been he which should have redeemed Israel: and beside all this, **to day is the third day** (1st day of the week)since these things were done.Lukes account clearly shows that on the same day the “first day of the week“, Sunday, when Mary Magdalene went to the tomb, is when the disciples spoke with Yeshua in which they said…
to day is the third day since these things were done.
This account proves 2 things.
1. Yeshua rose on Sunday confirming Marks account.
2. It was the “Third day” after his betrayal, crucifixion, death, and burial, the first day of the week that he arose and appeared to the disciples, which also confirms Marks account.
Mk 16:9
Now when Jesus was risen early the first day of the week, he appeared first to Mary Magdalene, out of whom he had cast seven devils.Jesus also said…
Lk 13:32
And He said to them, “Go and tell that fox, 'Behold, I cast out demons and perform cures today and tomorrow, and the third day I reach My goal.'
33 Nevertheless I must journey on today and tomorrow and the next day; for it cannot be that a prophet would perish outside of Jerusalem.Jesus is telling us here what he meant by three days or third day.
Example is if he made this statement on Wednesday, it would read…
And He said to them, “Go and tell that fox, 'Behold, I cast out demons and perform cures today (Wed) and tomorrow (Thur), and the third day (Fri) I reach My goal.'
So Jesus own words for 3 days is not 72 hours. He includes the current day as one day.
Using that principle, He was crucified and buried on Friday,(1st day), Saturday, (2nd day), Raised, Sunday, (3rd day).
Yeshua also would have had to rise on Sunday the first day of the week for these reasons…
A. Day of first fruits and Pentecost always fell on a Sunday:
1. New Bible dictionary, Passover:
o“The Sadducees celebrated it on the 50th day (inclusive reckoning) from the first Sunday after Passover (taking the ‘Sabbath’ of Lv. 23:15 to be the weekly Sabbath); their reckoning regulated the public observance so long as the Temple stood, and the church is therefore justified in commemorating the first Christian Pentecost on a Sunday (Whit Sunday). The Pharisees, however, interpreted the ‘Sabbath’ of Lv. 23:15 as the Festival of Unleavened Bread (cf. Lv. 23:7), and their reckoning became normative in Judaism after ad 70, so that in the Jewish calendar Pentecost now falls on various days of the week.” (New Bible dictionary, Passover)
2. Still fell on Sunday in 33 AD!
oEven if the Sabbath of Lev 23:11&15 is not the weekly Sabbath, but a reference to the first day of unleavened bread, being the Sabbath, the Wave/ sheaf/ First fruits offering AND Pentecost still fell on Sunday in 33 AD, the year Jesus was crucified!!!
oThose who say Jesus was crucified on a Thursday or Wednesday cannot absolutely guarantee that first fruits and Pentecost always fell on a Sunday because they must use a different year (ie. 30 AD) in which Nisan 14 would not fall on a Friday.B. Passover the type of Christ’s crucifixion
1.Friday: Exodus = Passover meal = Christ crucified type of the crucifixion day Nisan 14C. Wave/ sheaf/ first fruits the type of Christ’s resurrection
1.1 Cor 15:20 But now Christ has been raised from the dead, the first fruits of those who are asleep.
2.Sunday: First fruits = Christ raised (the Omer, or day of first fruits, a clear type of the resurrection day, but not a Sabbath day!) Lev 23:10-12
3.The Israelites were instructed to be ready to leave Egypt at daybreak on the 15th (morning of the 15th). (Ex 12:1-13) They then traveled day and night for the next few days first to Etham and then to Pi Hahiroth where they encamped by the sea. (Ex 13:20-14:2) After the Egyptians appeared, the Lord parted the Red Sea all that night (Ex 14:21) from which the Israelites emerged on the other side as the day was dawning and at which time the sea covered the Egyptians. (Ex 14:27) This event is a shadow of the fulfillment of the day of First Fruits. Therefore the people of Israel were “saved” by coming through the Red Sea on the same day of the year and same time of day that Jesus rose from the dead as the “savior” of all who will turn to him–Nisan 17, before dawn.

June 1, 2009 at 10:59 pm#132164bodhithartaParticipantQuote (WorshippingJesus @ June 02 2009,10:20) Hi all!

Then what is the sign of Jonah?June 3, 2009 at 9:34 am#132301CindyParticipantbodhitharta
Mat 12:40 For as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale's belly; so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.
What is being emphasised here are the three days and three nights, not whether Jona was alive or not.
In Daniel we read that the Messiah was cut off in the middle of the week, cut off meaning died.Dan 9:27 And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease,…
“In the midst of the week”, has a twofold application; this was the seventieth week, Christs ministry lasted three and a half years when he died, or half a week; he also died on a Wednesday, middle of the week. His death put an end to all the sin sacrificing, except the Jews did not believe he was the Messiah, and continued with their old covenant sacrifices.
Jesus died on a Wednesday, passover; the next day was the first day of unleavened bread, a high day.Jhn 19:31 The Jews therefore, because it was the preparation, that the bodies should not remain upon the cross on the sabbath day, (for that sabbath day was an high day,) besought Pilate that their legs might be broken, and that they might be taken away.
A high day is an annual Sabbath day, had to be kept just like a Sabbath.
So Jesus was buried Wednesday before sundown, Thursday sundown would be the first day in the grave, Friday sundown the second, and Saturday sundown the third day. By the time the woman arrived by the grave, very early Sunday morning, Jesus had already risen.Georg

Luke clearly tells us Sunday was the third day!

Also you are denying the fact that the feast of first fruits was always on the 8th day. Jesus is clearly the “Firstfruits” of the resurection.
The Hebrew calendar was corrupted and any attempt to follow its years is futile?

“first day of the week, very early in the morning”
Isn't that what I said?
The day starts and ends with sundown, so, by the time the woman got to the grave Sunday morning, very early, Jesus had already risen.
In other words, Sunday begins with sundown Saturday evening.
The fact that Jesus himself said, he would be in the earth (grave) for three days and three nights, you have to count the hours from the time he was laid in the tomb, Wednesday just before sundown, that would make his resurrection Saturday, just before sundown.
When Jesus appeared to the woman at the tomb, was not the time when he was resurrected.Georg

The scripture that I posted shows that the women saw where Jesus was placed went home for the sabbath and returned early in the morning after the sabbathaccording to you Jesus was crucified on preperation day and wednesday night was the sabbath but that would make thursday night a regular night and then Friday night the beginning of the weekly sabbath if you were correct then the women would have went to the tomb early Friday Morning not sunday.
This is according to the scriptures.
June 4, 2009 at 10:55 pm#132469CindyParticipantBadhitharta! Wher do you get that the first day of the week is Friday? According to the Jewish which is God's Calander it is Sunday. The Scriptures say that Maria and Maria Magdalene went to the grave the first day of the week at dawn Sunday and Jesus had risen.
Math. 28:1 After the Sabbath (weekly Sabbath) , the first day of the week, at day at dawn, Maria Magdalene and the other Maria came to see the tomb.
That makes 3 days and 3 nights. You are wrong. What you are saying is not according to the Scripture in the King James Bible.

bodhidhartaI don't know how I can explain it any better.
Wednesday was the passover; passover is not a high day (sabbath), but it was also the preparation day for the “first day of unleavened bread” (a high day, annual sabbath) which follows passover.Georg

I read through the scriptures in my bible, and I think I know what confuses you.
Luk 23:52 This man went unto Pilate, and begged the body of Jesus.
Luk 23:53 And he took it down, and wrapped it in linen, and laid it in a sepulchre that was hewn in stone, wherein never man before was laid.
Luk 23:54 And that day was the preparation, and the sabbath drew on.This sabbath was not the weekly sabbath, it was an annual sabbath, the first day of unleavened bread, see what it says in John's gospel.
Jhn 19:31 The Jews therefore, because it was the preparation, that the bodies should not remain upon the cross on the sabbath day, (for that sabbath day was an high day,) besought Pilate that their legs might be broken, and that they might be taken away.
Wednesday was passover, Thursday was the first day of unleavend bread, that's why the woman, after they saw were they laid him, went back to prepare the spices for the buriel, but then had to rest the next day, a high day.
Luk 23:55 And the women also, which came with him from Galilee, followed after, and beheld the sepulchre, and how his body was laid.
Luk 23:56 And they returned, and prepared spices and ointments; and rested the sabbath day according to the commandment. Then the next day, Friday, they had to besides their regular work, prepare for their weekly sabbath, no work was allowed to be done on any sabbath.
So, when they finally got to the grave on Sunday, very early, the tomb was empty.Georg
