I read an interesting article in a paper the other day.
It made the point that financial crises were uncannily timed with construction of the tallest buildings of their time.
Let me explain:
- The Empire State Building construction coincided with the Great Depression.
- Sears Tower with the Oil Crisis.
- Petronas Towers with the Asian Crises
- Burj Dubai (current tallest building) with the current crises in Dubai.
Is this just coincidence, a reflection of the credit market becoming too excessive, or has it got something to do with “Lets build a tower up to heaven and make a name of ourselves?
What is your opinion. Should the world be worried when the next tallest building is constructed. Perhaps that building will be what is constructed in ground zero?
