I would like to look at the commandments one by one with your help.
The commandments meant a lot to Jesus.
(Note caps not my own but the version I copy)
And someone came to Him and said, “Teacher, what good thing shall I do that I may obtain eternal life?” And He said to him, “Why are you asking Me about what is good? There is only One who is good; but if you wish to enter into life, keep the commandments.” Then he said to Him, “Which ones?” And Jesus said, “YOU SHALL NOT COMMIT MURDER; YOU SHALL NOT COMMIT ADULTERY; YOU SHALL NOT STEAL; YOU SHALL NOT BEAR FALSE WITNESS; HONOR YOUR FATHER AND MOTHER; and YOU SHALL LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF.” The young man said to Him, “All these things I have kept; what am I still lacking?” Jesus said to him, “If you wish to be complete, go and sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me.” (Matt 19.16)
So the dragon was enraged with the woman, and went off to make war with the rest of her children, who keep the commandments of God and hold to the testimony of Jesus.(Rev 12.17)
Here is the perseverance of the saints who keep the commandments of God and their faith in Jesus. (Rev 14.12)
Jesus further said
“Do not think that I came to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I did not come to abolish but to fulfill. “For truly I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not the smallest letter or stroke shall pass from the Law until all is accomplished. “Whoever then annuls one of the least of these commandments, and teaches others to do the same, shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but whoever keeps and teaches them, he shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.
“For I say to you that unless your righteousness surpasses that of the scribes and Pharisees, you will not enter the kingdom of heaven.
“You have heard that the ancients were told, ‘YOU SHALL NOT COMMIT MURDER’ and ‘Whoever commits murder shall be liable to the court.’ “But I say to you that everyone who is angry with his brother shall be guilty before the court; and whoever says to his brother, ‘You good-for-nothing,’ shall be guilty before the supreme court; and whoever says, ‘You fool,’ shall be guilty enough to go into the fiery hell. “Therefore if you are presenting your offering at the altar, and there remember that your brother has something against you, leave your offering there before the altar and go; first be reconciled to your brother, and then come and present your offering. “Make friends quickly with your opponent at law while you are with him on the way, so that your opponent may not hand you over to the judge, and the judge to the officer, and you be thrown into prison. “Truly I say to you, you will not come out of there until you have paid up the last cent.
“You have heard that it was said, ‘YOU SHALL NOT COMMIT ADULTERY’; but I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman with lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart. “If your right eye makes you stumble, tear it out and throw it from you; for it is better for you to lose one of the parts of your body, than for your whole body to be thrown into hell. “If your right hand makes you stumble, cut it off and throw it from you; for it is better for you to lose one of the parts of your body, than for your whole body to go into hell.
“It was said, ‘WHOEVER SENDS HIS WIFE AWAY, LET HIM GIVE HER A CERTIFICATE OF DIVORCE’; but I say to you that everyone who divorces his wife, except for the reason of unchastity, makes her commit adultery; and whoever marries a divorced woman commits adultery.
“Again, you have heard that the ancients were told, ‘YOU SHALL NOT MAKE FALSE VOWS, BUT SHALL FULFILL YOUR VOWS TO THE LORD.’ “But I say to you, make no oath at all, either by heaven, for it is the throne of God, or by the earth, for it is the footstool of His feet, or by Jerusalem, for it is THE CITY OF THE GREAT KING. “Nor shall you make an oath by your head, for you cannot make one hair white or black. “But let your statement be, ‘Yes, yes’ or ‘No, no’; anything beyond these is of evil.
“You have heard that it was said, ‘AN EYE FOR AN EYE, AND A TOOTH FOR A TOOTH.’ “But I say to you, do not resist an evil person; but whoever slaps you on your right cheek, turn the other to him also. “If anyone wants to sue you and take your shirt, let him have your coat also. “Whoever forces you to go one mile, go with him two. “Give to him who asks of you, and do not turn away from him who wants to borrow from you.
“You have heard that it was said, ‘YOU SHALL LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR and hate your enemy.’ “But I say to you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, so that you may be sons of your Father who is in heaven; for He causes His sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous. “For if you love those who love you, what reward do you have? Do not even the tax collectors do the same? “If you greet only your brothers, what more are you doing than others? Do not even the Gentiles do the same? “Therefore you are to be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect. (Matt 5)
Heaven and earth have not passed away, the law is not abolished, not one iota.
———————–
So, commandment number one.
“I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery. “You shall have no other gods before Me. (Exodus 20.2)
What does that mean to you?
February 4, 2015 at 5:54 am#788714GeneBalthropParticipantMiia……..It means exactly what it say, any in covenate with God, who creates or follows and worships another God, other then the One and Only true God, is breaking the commandments of God. They have become an Idolatar And are not of the KINGDOM OF GOD. WE that believe in God the Father believe he is the “Only” “True” God. We have no other God’s but him alone. IMO

February 4, 2015 at 1:13 pm#788733MiiaParticipantHi Gene thanks. Can we define what “another god” could include.
February 4, 2015 at 9:50 pm#788743NickHassanParticipantHi Mila,
Bear these things in mind I suggest.
Jesus Christ was sent to those of Israel, those under the Law.
So he spoke to them about the Law, then perfectly fulfilled it, and closed that door to salvation.
The rich young man was given that message, and then offered a glimpse of the new covenant that we should now be under.
February 5, 2015 at 9:43 am#788752MiiaParticipantHi Nick, so are you saying the ten commandments, namely; I am the Lord thy God, though shalt have no other Gods before me, though shalt not make a graven image, though shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain, remember the sabbath day and keep it holy, honor thy father and mother, though shalt not kill, though shalt not commit adultery, though shalt not steal, though shalt not bear false witness, though shalt not covet thy neighbors house, though shalt not covet thy neighbors wife, though shalt not covet thy neighbors servants, animals or anything else, and the summary of the law made by Jesus Christ have been done away with? or am I misunderstanding you.
February 5, 2015 at 8:48 pm#788777NickHassanParticipantHi Mila,
Are you a Jew?
These were given to the Jews.
They teach from external behaviours as God did not indwell them.
God indwelled Christ Jesus.
We can share in the blessing of the Spirit that teaches.
The Spirit will lead us to obey the commandments but much more too.
February 5, 2015 at 8:50 pm#788778NickHassanParticipantHi Mila,
Jesus Christ brought grace
Grace gives the ability to obey the desire of God.
The sons of God are led by the Spirit of God.
The fruit of the Spirit is good fruit unto eternal life

You cannot serve two masters.
If you try to please God by perfect obedience to the OT commandments you cut yourself off from grace.

The law is not abolished as you say.
If you choose to serve this master you can.
But only grace can save you.
February 6, 2015 at 9:10 am#788795kerwinParticipantNick,
Test what you have heard. If you search for the word grace then your will find that it God grace was on those the old covenant as well as those under the new.
The new covenant does bring the Spirit and its indwelling. I believe you refer to that and so you are correct that those under the Law of Moses could only live by human effort.
February 6, 2015 at 9:19 am#788796NickHassanParticipantHi KW,
All God has done through men has been by grace and of the Spirit.
Flesh contributes nothing

Nick. Yes that’s true. So then the ten commandments haven’t been done away with.

Huh?
Obedience to God’s commandments comes from a love of what God wills. Jesus did God’s will, he was sinless. We are not sinless. Our past sins have been forgiven through the cross and water baptism. Thereafter we receive the spirit of God. However, if we sin and continue on in sin…what then if we don’t repent and change? In the case of those who have once been enlightened and have tasted of the heavenly gift and have been made partakers of the Holy Spirit, and have tasted the good word of God and the powers of the age to come, and then have fallen away, it is impossible to renew them again to repentance, since they again crucify to themselves the Son of God and put Him to open shame. For ground that drinks the rain which often falls on it and brings forth vegetation useful to those for whose sake it is also tilled, receives a blessing from God; but if it yields thorns and thistles, it is worthless and close to being cursed, and it ends up being burned. (Hebrews 6:4)
The law is not abolished
If you choose to serve this master you can.
But only grace can save you.
Grace + Faith + Obedience + Works, Nick.
“And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works.“ Revelation 20:12.
“Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.” Matthew 5:16.
“And, behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be.“ Revelation 22:12.
“Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone. Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: show me thy faith without thy works, and I will show thee my faith by my works.” James 2:17,18.
“And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him;” Hebrews 5:9.
“If ye love me, keep my commandments.“ John 14:15.
John 15:10 If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father’s commandments, and abide in his love.
“For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous.” 1 John 5:3.
“And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments. He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.“ 1 John 2:3,4.
“And he that keepeth his commandments dwelleth in him, and he in him. And hereby we know that he abideth in us, by the Spirit which he hath given us.” 1 John 3:24.

“Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city.” Revelation 22:14.
February 7, 2015 at 4:07 am#788835GeneBalthropParticipantMila……..”by works of “LAW” shall no flesh be justified before God”, why does PAUL tell us that, it is because LAW which is “forced compliance” can caus people to be moved to obey it, through the “fear” of the penalty of disobedience which is death. But Law (forced compliance) can never make the heart right, therefore God said I will take out of them the stony heart (hard heart) and give them a heart of flesh, (soft heart) and i will write on their hearts my law and commandments, and then I will be their God and they shall be my people.
peace and love to you and yours. …………gene
February 8, 2015 at 12:02 am#788855MiiaParticipantThanks Gene.
I agree, it is written on our hearts and we obey because we want to obey, Not because we feel we HAVE to obey.
So, getting back to topic…………Commandment number one, “I am YHWH your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery. “You shall have no other gods before Me.” (Exodus 20.2)
Can we define “other gods”?
Commandment number two says “You shall not make for yourself an image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth. You shall not bow down to them or serve them, for I the Lord your God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children to the third and the fourth generation of those who hate me, but showing steadfast love to thousands of those who love me and keep my commandments.”
February 8, 2015 at 7:38 am#788886kerwinParticipantNick,
The words you speak are true but they lack detail. I have no idea how you are applying them. I do know that all men throughout all time are saved by the grace of God. It is not just true of those under the new covenant.
I realize that even when the Spirit is not dwelling in men and instructing them from their it still guides those that seek God.
February 8, 2015 at 8:39 am#788890GeneBalthropParticipantTo all……The grace of God in the new testement, is that God has forgiven us our sin, through the bloood of Christ Jesus. That grace removes us from the death penalty of Gods law, to life, and more it also, “creates” in us new hearts, that works God’s will in us, just as it says, “for he (God), works “in” us both to “will” and do of his (God’s) good pleasure. Those whom God has called and chosen have become a new creation, created in the image of a dear son.
As far as God’s grace being on those of the old covenant, it was removed from them when they sinned and they all sinned, that grace was based on the preformance of their obediance to his laws and was entered into by a covenant which they broke Continually. Therefore he destoryed there nations and drove them out of the land he gave their forefathers and scattered them throughout the world as it is this day, even though, some of the tribe of JUDAH have returned, but those of the other 12 tribes have not returned yet
The GRACE OF GOD in the new testement is not of that old covenant at all, but on his (God’s) exceptance of the sacrifice of Jesus for the payment of our death penalty, which we have all brought on ourselves, we have been bought with a price, by “a man” approved of by God who was without sin, a kindsmen redeemer who according to the law, had a legal right and was therefore able to pay his kindsmens (fellow humans) penalty.
As a result we are being saved by Grace and not of or from ourselves , it is a gift from God. Not by the way law works (through fearfull obedience) do we make it, least any should boast, but by the blood of Christ Jesus, which brought to us, the Grace of God. IMO
peace and love to you all and yours. ………………..gene

“Make sure not to be deceived by someone telling you that the Torah (Law) has been done away with. The teaching that the Torah (Law) is done away with is a flat out lie and doesn’t make sense. Many people are living in deception thinking that Shaul’s writings in Col 2:14-17 was talking about the 10 Commandments being done away with. This looks confusing to a person who has not studied the Scriptures. Kephah wrote that some of Paul’s writings were “hard to understand, which the UNTAUGHT and UNSTABLE distort to their own destruction, as they do with the rest of the Scriptures”. So we must always remember that we are to start with the Savior’s Word first and allow the rest of the Scripture to be congruent with His Words. The Savior said that the Torah (Law) would not pass away until “heaven and earth” have passed away. Now stop right there and just “think” for a second. Has “heaven and earth” passed away? If you’re reading this now then the answer is NO. So if heaven and earth haven’t passed away, then the Torah (Law) still remains.
To clarify what Shaul was stating in Colossians 2, let’s take a look at a quote out of book by Lew White called “End of Days- In The Twinkling Of An Eye.”
Lew states on pages 81 & 82 of the book:
“‘Christians’ have taught for centuries that the ‘law’ has been done away with, and that we now live under ‘grace.'”
He goes on to say:
“The cermonial laws, which were daily sacrifices pointing to Yahushua’s one-time atoning death, were brought to a crashing halt, since they served as our temporary covering for sin, and reminded us that we are sinners. Daily, weekly, and annual ceremonial laws had to be performed, because they were impermanent. Yahushua’s death ended the need for this ceremonial law. Yahushua fulfilled even the ‘drink offerings’ by taking sour wine from a sponge as He hung dying, nailed to wood. Each ceremonial law was hostile to us, while the Commandments could never be hostile to us.”
Now check out this part of Lew’s book which explains it clearly from Scripture:
“This was a ‘law’ OUTSIDE the Ark, while INSIDE the Ark was the Covenant itself. What was outside the Ark was impermanent, and passing away. Inside the Ark was the Covenant which is a lamp for our feet, and a light for our path. The ceremonial law was placed beside [outside] the Ark, not inside it. Deut 31:26 states:
‘Take this book of the law and place it BESIDE the Ark of the Covenant of YHWH [Yahuah] your Elohim [Eloah], that it may remain there as a WITNESS AGAINST you.”
Comparing the above text with Col 2:14, we can better comprehend which ‘law’ was taken out of the way:
‘Having cancelled-out the certificate of debt consisting of decrees AGAINST us which was hostile to us; and He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the stake.’
‘ ….The ‘ceremonial’ law was never referred to as “THE COVENANT,” and the Ten Words [Ten Commandments] which are INSIDE the Ark are the Covenant.”
The above quotes from Lew White’s book should clear up a lot of confusion and “lawlessness” that has taken place over the centuries. The “law” that was done away with was the “ceremonial sacrificial” law. This is quite simple to see when we look at this with a heart to follow the Savior and not man.
Imagine someone saying “the law has been done away with so it’s okay to dishonor parents, murder, commit adultery, steal, lie, or covet (be envious of another’s possessions).” No sensible person would ever think such a thing would be okay to do. Notice that the six mentioned here are last six Commandments. No one has a problem knowing that you cannot willing and knowlingly participate in these activities and belong to Yahuah the Creator. It’s only when the first four Commandments come up that people mention that the “law has been done away with.”
The first thing to understand is that if you don’t know His Name, then you will not know the first 5 Commandments, because each of the first 5 Commandments contain His Name. The first 4 Commandments deal precisely with what the Savior Yahushua mentioned as the Greatest Commandment (Matt 22:37). The last 6 Commandments deal precisely with what the Savior YAHUAH ha Mashiach mentioned as the next in line to follow (Matt 22:39). If you OBEY the first 4 Commandments then you will fulfill Matt 22:37. If you OBEY the last 6 Commandments then you will fulfill Matt 22:39. It’s as simple as that. No confusion.
The first 4 Commandments will surely test your love for the One and Only Creator, YAHUAH. Our greatest act of love that we can show our Savior and Creator, YAHUAH, is OBEDIENCE. Now some call “obeying” our Creator and Savior “legalism.” They do this out of not being taught correctly and/or willfully being disobedient, which the Scripture calls “lawlessness.” Let’s look at what it says in Matt 7:23: “And then I shall declare to them, ‘I never knew you, depart from Me, you who practice LAWLESSNESS.'” It couldn’t be more plain, those that say the Law has been done away with are “workers of lawlessness.” These folks will not see Eternal Life but rather the forewarned wrath of YAHUAH.
If you are going to follow the Truth and have Scripture as your basis of Truth and the way you live, then you will have to learn to Love the Torah (Law). His Law is not burdensome as it says in 1 Yn 5:3. The Scripture says over and over that we are to keep and guard His Commandments. False teachers have taken one or two of Shaul’s quotes and DISTORTED them to their own destruction and leading many to destruction with them.
Don’t be deceived. Learn His ways which are outlined first and foremost in His 10 Commandments. Once a person gets and lives the first 4 Commandments, then everything else will fall into place. As they accept His Commandments they will be given “eyes to see.” Without accepting His Commandments one will remain “blind to the truth” and will be sent a “delusion so they will believe a lie” (2 Thess 2:9-12). Folks, this is not our opinion, this is based solely on Scripture.
IMPORTANT: You cannot be saved by just obeying the 10 Commandments (you can’t work your way to Eternal Life). You OBEY, because you are saved and have the power of YAHUAH RUACH (Set-Apart Spirit) to OBEY. Make no mistake about this, you cannot obey and have His Truth in you if you don’t first Repent and call on His one and only Name for Salvation.”

February 10, 2015 at 12:40 pm#788970MiiaParticipantHi all,
All I’m saying is could we please move past “whether or not the Ten Commandments should be obeyed” which to me, is a ridiculous question. That’s like saying, “You can murder, you CAN commit adultery, etc…”, see, foolishness, of course the Ten Commandments have not been “done away with”.
The Ten Commandments were that important to our God, they were placed inside the ark of the covenant, written by God’s own HAND, on stone which is significant, THEN they were written on our hearts by Jesus – in other words, they were given a HEARTBEAT.
(Eze 36:24-27) For I will take you from the nations, gather you from all the lands and bring you into your own land. 25 Then I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you will be clean; I will cleanse you from all your filthiness and from all your idols. 26 Moreover, I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; and I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh.
(Rom 2:14-15) For all who have sinned without the Law will also perish without the Law, and all who have sinned under the Law will be judged by the Law; for it is not the hearers of the Law who are just before God, but the doers of the Law will be justified. For when Gentiles who do not have the Law do instinctively the things of the Law, these, not having the Law, are a law to themselves, in that they show the work of the Law written in their hearts, their conscience bearing witness and their thoughts alternately accusing or else defending them, on the day when, according to my gospel, God will judge the secrets of men through Christ Jesus.
This meant a lot to our Lord and savior.
Commandment number one says “I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery. “You shall have no other gods before Me.
Obviously this is talking about YHWH, the Father of Jesus… I am sure we all agree on that.
A commandment not to make ANY IMAGES. TV’s, pictures on computers or in our homes, are they a direct violation of this commandment. What say you?

It is time for you to wakeup. Islam bows down to a square cube. No-one is bowing down to their computer or TV.
