23And it shall come to pass, that every soul, which will not hear that prophet, shall be destroyed from among the people.

Indeed Jesus was the great prophet Moses spoke about mentioned by Peter in Acts 3.
Prophets serve God and speak for Him.

Only their religious leaders and the deceived believe he claimed to be God.

He also said those in him were greater than John the Baptist

However You bore with them for many years, and admonished them by Your Spirit through the prophets..

Zech 7.11

They made their hearts like flint so that they could not hear the law and the words which the Lord of hosts had sent by His Spirit through the former prophets..

Heb 1.1

God,  after He spoke long ago to the father in the prophets in many portions and in many ways, in these last days has spoken to us in His Son…

 

Folks cannot cope with the idea that God spoke this time in the first person through His Son.

Elijah was a prophet

He spoke for God.

He healed the sick.

He did miracles.

He raised the dead.

But why did nobody say he must be God?
