The promises of the new covenant.

    Matthew 5(NIV)

    He said:
3 “Blessed are the poor in spirit,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
4 Blessed are those who mourn,
      for they will be comforted.
    5 Blessed are the meek,
for they will inherit the earth.
6 Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness,
      for they will be filled.
    7 Blessed are the merciful,
for they will be shown mercy.
8 Blessed are the pure in heart,
      for they will see God.
    9 Blessed are the peacemakers,
for they will be called children of God.
10 Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
11 “Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me. 12 Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.

    Luke 6(NIV)

20 Looking at his disciples, he said:
“Blessed are you who are poor,
for yours is the kingdom of God.
21 Blessed are you who hunger now,
      for you will be satisfied.
Blessed are you who weep now,
      for you will laugh.
22 Blessed are you when people hate you,
when they exclude you and insult you
and reject your name as evil,
because of the Son of Man.
23 “Rejoice in that day and leap for joy, because great is your reward in heaven. For that is how their ancestors treated the prophets.
24 “But woe to you who are rich,
for you have already received your comfort.
25 Woe to you who are well fed now,
      for you will go hungry.
Woe to you who laugh now,
for you will mourn and weep.
26 Woe to you when everyone speaks well of you,
for that is how their ancestors treated the false prophets.

Can you paraphrase each of these promises?

Which, if any, characteristic that Jesus states is blessed will be lacked by one that is completely mature in Christ?

What other promises of the New Covenant are there?

    Hello Kerwin;

You happened to have hit on the 2nd half of the new creation. Jesus created a new heaven and a new earth. This post of yours sets up God's people with the “new and living way” which tells all men how to get along in a new way, on earth.

If we do all that you have outlined, taken from Mat 5-7 in what is commonly understood to be “the sermon on the mount” and repeated by Luke in paraphrase terms, we will get along fine with our fellow man.

Then, when Jeuss was raised to the right hand of God, heaven was “made new” in that all thrones, dominions, principalities, and powers had to make an adjustment downward to accomodate Jesus' new position as second in command in God's kingdom.

You ask “Can you paraphrase” – May I suggest…
3)He who leaves his arrogance behind, will be blessed by being in the kingdom of heaven.

    4) Those who have been made to see themselves as dregs of society, will be seen wearing crowns of righteosuness.

    5) Those who do not make demands, will be given all they need.

    6) Those who yearn for fairness from all, to all, will see it practiced by all.

    7) If you forgoe getting even for wrongs done to you, you will be blessed by amnesia in your neighbor.

    8) Those whose heart is not gross in aspect, will see God in everything.

    9) Those who strive for peace between warring factions, will be see as God's offspring among men.

    10) All those who are punished for making the rest of us look bad, because they can behave and we can't, will get that reward which they deserve, in heaven's kingdom.

    11) When you are insulted, degraded, made mockery of, because you are called “Christian,” You should be grateful, because you have arrived at that place from which God's children are selected for entrance into his home address; just like the prophets of old.

What other promises are there in the new covenant?

Excellent question – Beside the rest of Mat 5-7 there is this:
“For this cause I bow my knees unto the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, 15 Of whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named, 16 That he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man; 17 That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love, 18 May be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height; 19 And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God.” [Eph 3:14-19]

I do not know if this is anything like what you hade in mind, but it has made my sould glad this morning. Thank you.

    Paladin,

Just wanted to let you know I read your post and will address it if the Lord so wills. I appreciate you finding another promise and it like the rest encourages those who seek God's kingdom and his righteousness.

Kerwin: Would it be ok if I gave a paraphrased version of the sermon of Jesus so you can know my understanding better? I believe you would allow. I hope!

I believe he is teaching of the Kingdom come, for which reason he came. The gospel is in a mystery, hidden for the righteous. To those on the outside in darkness everything is given in parable/mystery form. The Jews or main religion of that time was in sin and darkness. It was mystery to them.

3)Blessed are those who don't think they know it all now for they will be able to accept the new way of truth!

4)Blessed are they that cry out for Gods truth for they will be comforted.

5)Blessed are the meek they will inherit the earth while everyone kills everyone else off. Live by sword die by sword!

6)Blessed are those now who truly want to know the truth about God. They will hear the mystery.

    7) Those who show mercy will receive mercy from God.
    Sowing and reaping.

8)Blessed are the pure in heart who's only motive is to know God and find their righteousness. Not to make money & control like the temple church.

9)Those who sow peace will reap peace. Those who believe in destruction and death to come on earth will suffer that violence apart from the peace avaliable.

10)Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness sake or persecuted for saying they have now been made righteous in God, for theirs is the Kingdom of heaven within.

11)Blessed are you when “religious people” insult you, and persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you
BECAUSE OF ME, JESUS, and what I say is truth about Gods words of cleansing, forgiveness, and perfection as a gift by faith alone.
Rejoice and be glad, for in the same way “they”(Jews) persecuted the prophets who were before you.

Thanks for your time in reading, Bless you, TK

Blest are they who understand God's law and try to follow it, and do as Jesus asked, to do the will of the Father who sent him, as Jesus taught in the beatitudes. Jesus called them Mother, brother, and sisters to him.

Also the ones who know that new age philosophy is a lie and are not decieved,( that heaven is not a literal place ), but understand it is real. That the devil is real, and hopefully have the discernment to aviod him. And know that one has to follow God's commandments. That the poison set out by Aliester Crowley and the new age movement is evil “do as thou wilst will be the whole of the law” and accept what God ask of us and try as much as humanly possible to obey him. IMO- Peace-Mark

    Mikeangel,

Have faith that God will empower you to obey him if you adhere to all of Jesus's teaching and all things are possible for God. God will overcome all your sins just as he created you in the first place as long as you persevere in seeking him and his kingdom.

We cannot obtain righteousness by our own efforts but only through living by the Spirit of God we receive when entering the new covenant. That is why Jesus promised those that hunger and thirst for righteousness will be filled.

I wish people would not say untrue things about what I believe to defend their truth. Of all my writings on this site I have never, ever, said I obtained righteousness myself.

I have no righteousness of my own. I don't believe that righteousness can be obtained through our own efforts which actually would be trying to live by some form or rules or a law.

The righteousness I profess is through Jesus' words from God.
Jesus gave me and all who will accept by faith righteousness unto God. I have no righteousness of my own. I have nothing without Jesus' truth. I was lost in wrong thinking/sin & darkness until I heard the truth from Jesus. Its his gift to mankind, for free. Give thanks and accept the truth.

The New Covenant:….Rom.3:21–but now, the righteousness of God…without the law…is manifested!

Rom.3:28…man is justified by faith, without the deeds of the law…

NT:…Rom6:14…sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are NOT UNDER THE LAW , but under grace…

NT: ….Rom.8:2—for the law of the SPIRIT OF LIFE in Christ Jesus hath made us free from the law of sin and death…

Those who attempt to work out their righteousness will get what everyone got from the ot law, sin and death. IMO, TK

I agree Kerwin. Nomatter what one does, or how much charity one gives, or any works whatsoever, one cannot redeem oneselfs soul from death. Only God's sons body and blood sacrifice on the cross could have saved anyone. No work could have done it or substituted for it, period. There is one requirement, however- Faith. One who has faith in Jesus will believe in him, and read his words, and follow his commands, as best as they can. One who says that there are no commands or rules to follow is denying what he taught. You can become as rich as you want and keep it to yourself. If there are no rules or commands then that would be fine, but it is not. You could be as arrogant, obnoxious, greedy, prideful and self centered as you want, because there are no rules or commands. Basically “Do as thou wilst”. To be a follower of Christ means to believe in his words and try to follow them IMO-Peace-Mark

    P.S. Kerwin,

Also you are right, One is powerless in themselves. One way I try to reach out to non-religious people is to tell them that. I tell them “O.k. ,life is a mess for you now, just give God a chance and he will guide you to peace. Invite God into your life and let him do the driving.” I say this about myself too. The only reason I have anything good in me is because God did it. I did nothing on my own. The only thing I claim for myself is I love God and know him. Peace-Mark

Pss. But even then, I cannot claim even that, because God chose me. I guess I can't even claim that, so I take that back- I cannot personally claim anything, God does everything.

Kerwin, you gave us the Sermon on the mount were Jesus magnified the Law. Which is good  But you did not give us what The New Covenant is.
Luk 22:20   Likewise also the cup after supper, saying, This cup [is] the new covenant in my blood, which is shed for you.

Then Jesus gave us the great commandments in

Mat 22:36   Master, which [is] the great commandment in the law?

Mat 22:37   Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.

Mat 22:38   This is the first and great commandment.

Mat 22:39   And the second [is] like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.

Mat 22:40   On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.
This is the New Covenant under Jesus blood, it is veery important.  Along with

Eph 2:7   That in the ages to come he might shew the exceeding riches of his grace in [his] kindness toward us through Christ Jesus.

Eph 2:8   For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: [it is] the gift of God:

Eph 2:9   Not of works, lest any man should boast.

Eph 2:10   For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.

    And

Rom 4:6   Even as David also describeth the blessedness of the man, unto whom God imputeth righteousness without works,

Rom 4:7   [Saying], Blessed [are] they whose iniquities are forgiven, and whose sins are covered.

Rom 4:8   Blessed [is] the man to whom the Lord will not impute sin.

    Peace and love Irene

    Mikeangel,

I agree that God does everything including choosing who will obtain the prize.  He does that for his reasons and his reasons are righteous.

We strive in vain to obtain righteousness if God does not do it but we have confidence that God will do it and so do the righteous works he puts in front of us knowing that we can only do them by the grace of God.  In that way we bear the fruit of God not from our own effort but rather from the effort of God.

God does that to show his love for us because we believe what he says is true.  We believe what he says because he created a believing soul within us.

    Irene,

The promise of Jesus that those who deeply desire to righteous as God is righteous will obtain that righteousness is a promise that the will come to love as God loves and so keep the greatest commandment.

The First Greatest and Secound Greatest laws are paraphrases of one another since obedience is love to God. If you keep the first you will also keep the secound and if do not keep the first you cannot keep the secound.

    Tim Kraft,

I agree that believers are justified by faith and not the deeds of the law because the fruit of their faith is learning complete obedience to God. If one does not have the faith then one cannot have the fruit and if one does not havew the fruit then their faith is flawed as God does as he says.

Kerwin: THIS IS THE NEW COVENANT, IMO!! God and Jesus gave us one last commandment(suggestion) to live by. Jesus said, Love one another as I have loved you. This is my command that you love one another!! How do we “obey” love? Love does not tell us what to do. Love does not control our lives. Love does not demand a thing. To love someone is to want them to have their way. To love is to give kindness asking nothing in return. To love someone is to want their happiness. To love is giving freedom. To love is to respect and care for another. Does your God love you? YES! Jesus said God is love. Love doesn't try to rule your life. There is nothing to obey if nothing is demanded from you. Love is not demanding.

If I love you it means I do not take into account a wrong you may have done to me. To love someone is to live and let them live. To love someone is to stay out of their business. Love is not judgmental. Love is not haughty or puffed up. To love someone is to be willing to help them. Love does not tell them what to do or not do. Love does not condemn another. Love does not judge because love does not require anything to judge. There is perfect peace in love.

There is no fear in love. Love does not war for its way. Love gives life. Love does not take away life. Love does not control anothers affairs. Love leaves others to themselves. Love is not contrary to anothers will. Obedience to love is to love others the same way. Obedience to God is to love one another. In this love is a perfect world. God loved first, now if we love we proliferate it. IMO, TK

In growing up, I had a neighborhood friend that lived four doors down from me. We were childhood friends, and I knew him and his parents very well. We were in the same grade. One day, I think it was about 7th or 8th grade, His mom was out in the front yard beating the heck out of the woman that lived next door to her, all over the front yard. Well, you know what us neighbors thought. Also, it was hard not to think that when a few weeks later, the lady who got the heck beat out of her had put on a bumper sticker that said “Love thy neighbor-but don't get caught”………………… The family was destroyed. Rules have a purpose……..

It may be hard to accept but whatever we choose to accept as truth for ourselves, and believe it in our hearts and it becomes truth to us!
So back to billions of people with billions of truth's created by each person of the truth he sees, understands and expects in life. Thereby he creates his own existence. Your mind is your life, as far as you are concerned. What you think is what you experience. If your mind is filled with thoughts and beliefs established over time of positive, agressive, no fear, I can do anything, you will create that particular life. Any force of energy contemplated and believed with whole heart, collects and creates an “aura” of that particular electromagnetic energy around each person.

    Tim,
I can't even express my unbelief that someone who proports to believe in Jesus can type this. I believe you are either 1-On acid 2-a satanist disguiseing yourself as a christian to purposely mislead  or 3-severely spiritually challanged.

God gave us rules. We love him and we try to follow him. These are lies. When I state where you are wrong in scripture you just say the scriptures are wrong, blasphemeing the bible. What are you trying to do here?
