Jesus was teaching to the Jews, still under the old covenant, we gentiles were still far off from God. The statement “you must be born again” was meant for them only, they were to repent the rejection of their messiah, and was the message to the Hebrews, Gods chosen people. We believing gentiles are “a new creation”, Not born again, and Pauls scripture are for the nations (gentiles).Blessings.

ParticipantHi cn,
Actually one could say it was just for Nicodemus.
There is no Jew or gentile in Christ but he made one body from all.
We must all be clothed with Christ and follow him into his death and resurrection.March 31, 2007 at 1:55 am#46870Phoenix
ParticipantHi Nick

ParticipantHi P,
Rebirth of water and the Spirit on believing and repenting, is the way.
Then let the Spirit empower you and teach you and lead you in service to God.
The Word is the lamp to our feet and the morning star of Christ within gives light to the Word.March 31, 2007 at 7:20 am#46890chosenone

No Nick, you couldn't say it was just for Nicodemus, the word “you” in “you must be born again” in the greek language was plural, meaning more than one. Jesus teachings were to the Jews, still under the old covenant, why are you assuming it is for us today? Mat.15:24…Now He (Jesus), answering, said,”I was not commissioned except for the lost sheep of the house of Israel”.
After the Jews rejected the messiah, and after His death and ressurection still did not recieve Him as Messiah, God has set them aside (Acts) and under the new covenant of Grace, there is salvation both to the Jew and Gentile through Christ Jesus. This can be found in Pauls Epistles that are for the Gentiles. Pauls writings are for the uncircumcision. In the future all Israel will be saved when the new covenant will be made with them again, Heb.8:8-12 and in the old testament Jer.31:31 (same).Blessings.
