ECCLESIASTES 3:19-20 Man's fate is like that of the animals; the same fate awaits them both: As one dies, so dies the other. All have the same breath, man has no advantage over the animal. Everything is meaningless. All go to the same place; all come from dust and to dust all return. (NIV)
*It says that everything is meaningless. Am I not to take this in a literal sense? I never would anyways.
I need help understanding this verse. Much help would be appreciated.

Hi acc,
The philosopher takes a view from the outside. Man is from dust but only as body and in Gen 3 .19 God says the same about us. As far as outer man goes we are like to the animals with no hope beyond death. But as inner man we can be reborn from above and share in the eternal life given to the Son of God.
We then gain a new imperishable body at the first resurrection.[1Cor 15]
