The Lord is the Spirit. What does that mean
Quote 2 Cor 3
3 Are we beginning to commend ourselves again? Or do we need, as some, letters of commendation to you or from you? 2 You are our letter, written in our hearts, known and read by all men; 3 being manifested that you are a letter of Christ, cared for by us, written not with ink but with the Spirit of the living God, not on tablets of stone but on tablets of human hearts. 4 Such confidence we have through Christ toward God. 5 Not that we are adequate in ourselves to consider anything as coming from ourselves, but our adequacy is from God, 6 who also made us adequate as servants of a new covenant, not of the letter but of the Spirit; for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life. 7 But if the ministry of death, in letters engraved on stones, came with glory, so that the sons of Israel could not look intently at the face of Moses because of the glory of his face, fading as it was, 8 how will the ministry of the Spirit fail to be even more with glory? 9 For if the ministry of condemnation has glory, much more does the ministry of righteousness abound in glory. 10 For indeed what had glory, in this case has no glory because of the glory that surpasses it. 11 For if that which fades away was with glory, much more that which remains is in glory. 12 Therefore having such a hope, we use great boldness in our speech, 13 and are not like Moses, who used to put a veil over his face so that the sons of Israel would not look intently at the end of what was fading away. 14 But their minds were hardened; for until this very day at the reading of the old covenant the same veil remains unlifted, because it is removed in Christ. 15 But to this day whenever Moses is read, a veil lies over their heart; 16 but whenever a person turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away. 17 Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty. 18 But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as from the Lord, the Spirit.
NASUI believe that this passage is comparing two different covenants with two different approaches to learning God's way for us to follow.
The Old Covenant's approach was to follow the written law that was written in stone.
The New Covenant approach is to follow what the Holy Spirit is writing on our hearts.
So, which one will master you? The law written in stone, or the law written on our hearts by the Spirit. Either the laws written in stone lord over you, or the laws written by the Spirit lord over you. If you choose the laws written by the Spirit as lording over you, then the lord is the Spirit, not the written.
That is what my understanding is of this matter. Any thoughts?Kathi

When he returns we will be found alike to him.[1jn3]Meantime we can fellowship with the Father and the Son in the Spirit.[2Cor13, 2Jn9, jn 14.19]

In Jn 14 in the context of speaking of the prophesied Spirit, Jesus said he would return and his brothers would SEE him though the world would not.
He said also he and His Father would come to them and make their abode with them.
They knew WHO their Lord was.The promise of the Spirit is towards us too[Act2.39]
If we know the Spirit we know also God and His Son and our fellowship is with them.

Hi:By the Law was knowledge of sin, and brought with it condemnation since all of us have sinned, but through the spirit of the Lord there is life. Therefore, where the spirit of the Lord is there is liberty.
Quote Romans 8 1There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.
2For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death.
3For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh:
4That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.

The brothers of Jesus would have recognised the urgings of the Spirit as the voice of their Lord.

Jn 14-17 uses many forms of language to express the release of gift of God's Spirit among the members of Christ's body.
Romans 8 too shows us many names for that Spirit.April 16, 2010 at 8:41 pm#187415942767ParticipantQuote (Nick Hassan @ April 17 2010,08:21) Hi 94,

Hi Nick:You say: “we who have never met him…”. Have you not met him? I know him and am submitted to God through him, and I am not under condemnation, although some might through their comments try to show me condenmed.
But the scripture states: “If God be for me, who can be against me”.
He has also said to me: “Blessed are you when shall revile you and persecute you and say all manner of evil about you because you are serving me”. If they have called the master of the house, Beelzebub…

Hi Nick,
The Spirit, or Comforter, which Jesus sent from the Father to believers, is both the spirit of the Father and the Son which abide in us and we have fellowship with them through the Spirit within us.I think we are saying the same thing.
Their spirit is within us but not their mind unless the spirit reveals it to us. Their soul is not within us either, nor their heavenly bodies. The spirit has a unique ability to remain in the Father and flow out of the Father through the Son and then to all believers.
