Hi Georg,
Perhaps these may help.Micah 1:4
And the mountains shall be molten under him, and the valleys shall be cleft, as wax before the fire, and as the waters that are poured down a steep place.
Zechariah 14:4
And his feet shall stand in that day upon the mount of Olives, which is before Jerusalem on the east, and the mount of Olives shall cleave in the midst thereof toward the east and toward the west, and there shall be a very great valley; and half of the mountain shall remove toward the north, and half of it toward the south. Is 24
19The earth is utterly broken down, the earth is clean dissolved, the earth is moved exceedingly.20The earth shall reel to and fro like a drunkard, and shall be removed like a cottage; and the transgression thereof shall be heavy upon it; and it shall fall, and not rise again.
21And it shall come to pass in that day, that the LORD shall punish the host of the high ones that are on high, and the kings of the earth upon the earth.
22And they shall be gathered together, as prisoners are gathered in the pit, and shall be shut up in the prison, and after many days shall they be visited.
23Then the moon shall be confounded, and the sun ashamed, when the LORD of hosts shall reign in mount Zion, and in Jerusalem, and before his ancients gloriously.

But, how can the moon be confounded, or the sun be ashamed?

August 8, 2008 at 9:23 am#100671NickHassanParticipantHi Georg,
Is 13
'9Behold, the day of the LORD cometh, cruel both with wrath and fierce anger, to lay the land desolate: and he shall destroy the sinners thereof out of it.10For the stars of heaven and the constellations thereof shall not give their light: the sun shall be darkened in his going forth, and the moon shall not cause her light to shine.
11And I will punish the world for their evil, and the wicked for their iniquity; and I will cause the arrogancy of the proud to cease, and will lay low the haughtiness of the terrible.
12I will make a man more precious than fine gold; even a man than the golden wedge of Ophir.
13Therefore I will shake the heavens, and the earth shall remove out of her place, in the wrath of the LORD of hosts, and in the day of his fierce anger. '

Have you ever considered, that, earthquake does not always mean the shaking of the ground?
Earth is used as a metaphor for people, their societies, for nations.
Sun is used as a metaphor for truth. Jesus said he was the light of the world.
The sun in Rev. 6, that became dark, is the light of the impostor, false gospel.
During the French revolution the Catholic Church was expelled from France, had to roll up like a scroll, was no longer allowed to shine.
The moon is a metaphor for those that reflect the light of the sun, the Pope. They are the priests and monks, they became as blood, they were massacred, tens of thousands of them.
The Stars are a metaphor for kings and princes that carried out the popes demands; arrest, torture and kill all who oppose the pope.
Just trying to share.Georg
August 8, 2008 at 1:57 pm#100684NickHassanParticipantHi Georg,
But are we free to develop our own metaphors?
Does scripture not lead the way in all these things?August 8, 2008 at 4:30 pm#100690IreneParticipantHi Nick
If Revelation was written in plain languish, you would be right, but it is not.
The book of Revelation is full of symbols and metaphors, to understand it you have to make sense out of it in a way that fits with the theme and history. You can't leave out history because much of prophecy has already been fulfilled.Georg
August 8, 2008 at 7:20 pm#100707NickHassanParticipantHi Georg,
I agree.
But choosing our own metaphors and assigning our own symbolism is dangerous.August 9, 2008 at 2:25 pm#100804IreneParticipantIf they are symbols, are we then not supposed to look for what they symbolize?
Georg
August 9, 2008 at 5:43 pm#100820NickHassanParticipantHi,
I agree we must continue to compare verse with verse and context with conttext in a bid to unravel the truth there and we do risk missing clues if we do not keep vigilant.Mt24
36But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only.37But as the days of Noah were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.
38For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark,
The popes have never been a source of any godly truth or even reflected truth and their false teachings have never been as relevant truth to be rolled up. They have always been imposters claiming authority and they have no relevance in God's kingdom. We should not give them any glory.
August 9, 2008 at 6:13 pm#100826IreneParticipantIs calling the pope the Antichrist, giving him glory?
August 9, 2008 at 6:17 pm#100827NickHassanParticipantHi Georg,
Scripture does not do so.
Should we.I think the humanistic religion of this world enjoys the world's glory enough already but it's fate is written and we should regard it just as a sham, a grotesque imitation of what faith should be like.
August 9, 2008 at 6:30 pm#100829IreneParticipantThat's what I said, is calling the pope the Antichrist giving him glory?
When you say, “should we?”, who are you referring too?
You seem to forget that the Roman Catholic Church is the mother of all other “christian” churches, with the pope as their emperor. Where does the basic teaching of all the many denomination come from?Georg
August 9, 2008 at 8:11 pm#100835NickHassanParticipantHi Georg,
Why would you do so as it is more likely the role of false prophet belongs to him IMO?
The mother of harlots has no relationship to the Body of ChristAugust 9, 2008 at 9:21 pm#100844IreneParticipantNick
The pope is the little horn, Dan. 7:8.
He is the one that spake great things, false gospel, Dan. 7:20.
He is the one that made war with the saints, Dan. 7:21, persecuted all that would not except his doctrine.
He is the one that tried to appear as the Lamb of God, Rev. 13:11, but what he spake, his doctrines, were devilish.
He is the one that has written on his crown. “Vicar of the Son of God”.
He is the image of the beast, Rome, Rev. 13:15, and all that would not worship him, would, and were, killed.
He represents the mother, and all denomination that broke away from him, teach any of his doctrine, are the harlots. And you are correct, they have no relationship with the body of Christ.
That is where Jesus warned us to come out of, Rev. 18:4.Georg
August 9, 2008 at 10:04 pm#100852NickHassanParticipantHi Georg,
You may be right.
You may be wrong.
But horns are kings, not self appointed authorities.August 9, 2008 at 10:10 pm#100854IreneParticipantHi Nick
The little horn, the pope, never said he was king, but he made himself a crown, and he ruled as a king.
Even the true kings of Europe feared him.Georg
