While Pope John Paul II venerated the shroud each time it was displayed from 1978 until 2000, praying before it and calling it “this most precious linen” and “a unique witness” to the Savior's redemption, he also urged researchers in 1998 not to let their biases in favor of its authenticity cloud their scientific inquiry.

His successor, Pope Benedict XVI, will pray before the shroud and celebrate Mass on May 2 when he is in Turin.

Two years ago, when he gave permission for the latest exhibition, Catholic News Service reported Benedict as saying it would be a chance for the faithful to “contemplate that mysterious face that silently speaks to the heart of humankind, inviting them to recognize the face of God.”

You ask, true or not? I say “NOT”.

Exd 20:4 ¶ Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth:

Had God allowed the image of his son to appear on that shroud, he would have violated his own commandment.

    Hi JH,
Even if it was true Jesus said true worshipers worship in spirit and in truth.

    Hi Georg,

Can you serve a piece of cloth?
Gen.20:5 Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them:

    Hi Georg,

You mean like the way others want to worship the 'flesh' of Jesus? (Deut.4:15-16 / John 6:63) Also click here

Isaiah 52:14, says that Jesus' face was marred beyond human likeness or marred more than any man's, or his appearance was disfigured beyond that of any man and his form marred beyond human likeness.

Whoever's face is on the shroud, it is not the face of Jesus Christ.
