Well done. Be strong. The pastor made no effort to answer the serious questions you asked or to prove from scripture that what they teach is berean. Denominations are at best divisions, powerful and self serving human organisations, who, if they were part of the body of Christ have cut themselves off from the head of that body by refusing to abide in the Word of God.
Jesus said
” Seek ye first the kingdom of God and His righteousness and everything else will be added to you”“Seek and you will find”
and to Nicodemus.
” 2The same came to Jesus by night, and said unto him, Rabbi, we know that thou art a teacher come from God: for no man can do these miracles that thou doest, except God be with him.3Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.
4Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother's womb, and be born?
5Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.
6That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.
7Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again.
8The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit.
9Nicodemus answered and said unto him, How can these things be?
10Jesus answered and said unto him, Art thou a master of Israel, and knowest not these things? “
And Jn 10
” 1Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that entereth not by the door into the sheepfold, but climbeth up some other way, the same is a thief and a robber.2But he that entereth in by the door is the shepherd of the sheep.
3To him the porter openeth; and the sheep hear his voice: and he calleth his own sheep by name, and leadeth them out.
4And when he putteth forth his own sheep, he goeth before them, and the sheep follow him: for they know his voice.
5And a stranger will they not follow, but will flee from him: for they know not the voice of strangers.”
So it is not just a matter of leaving Babylon but being reborn into the Son and then prayerfully following his voice to find safety as you are already doing. But the wolf will not give up so easily on it's prey.
Nick, I'm curious, did you raise your kids in church? I know you came out of a Catholic situation…..I have been struggling with this recently. I grew up in church and loved it! Some of my very best memories as a young adult surround church and church activities.
Since leaving church, I wonder about my kids not having that “church” base that I did. Of course they have a sure foundation of knowledge of God and his Son, Jesus (I've made sure of that)…..but I'm talking more of the fellowship and activities.
Sometimes I wonder if I am throwing the “baby out with the bath water”? At the same time, I want to remain true to what the LORD has revealed to me. A truth so precious I cannot deny (no Trinity). I would shutter to sit in a congregation now that sang songs to Jesus and called him “God.” I certainly don't want my children to be a part of that either!
Any advice from like-minded believers would be appreciated.

I'm not sure which country you're from, but we are having the “Follow the Christ” district convention of JW's throughout the world right now. It is held at various dates in different cities throughout the world. We are making an effort to invite everyone, and are doing so with little tracts that we're delivering to people, everywhere.
Of course, you, along with everyone is always invited to sit in a congregation that doesn't sing songs “to Jesus and called him God.”HEBREWS 10:24-25
“And let us consider one another to incite to love and fine works, not forsaking the gathering of ourselves together, as some have the custom, but encouraging one another, and all the more so as YOU behold the day drawing near.”The day of God's anger draws nearer. In these “last days” which are critical times hard to deal with, we need encouragement and fellowship now more than ever.
June 14, 2007 at 6:10 am#55502Not3in1ParticipantThanks, David.
The activities I remember as a kid were singing in the choirs and having parts in Christmas plays; of course Easter was always a bit deal! As I got older, youth group was tons of fun! We went on mission trips (Mexico and Jamaica). We went street witnessing and had tons of actvities going on all the time. As an adult, I really enjoyed teaching classes and leading the worship teams and so on.
Church became an extended family. We all grew up together and because we all lived in the same neighborhood – we all went to school together too.
David, I appreciate what the JW's have done for me, and that is, they challenged me to find the truth of the Trinity in the Bible. Of course I could not do it and because of that I have come to know the only true God and Jesus Christ whom he sent. However, I cannot accept that Jesus is Michael the Archangel as I believe that is just as duduced from scripture as the JW's say the Trinity is deduced from scripture. Along with other things I have read about the times and dates of Christ's non-physical return and a few other things, I just cannot join in with them and worship.
I do not believe that Jesus is anyone else besides the Son of God by his birth and resurrection.

While the Bible neither says that God is a trinity or that Jesus was called Michael in heaven, there is a mountain of scriptures that argue against trinity belief. There is nothing that argues against the other. It's true, it's not directly stated in scripture. But the Bible strongly indicates this. There is a couple threads on this, one of which I have stated all the reasons why we believe this.
This, Michael being another name for Jesus, it's almost as if there's a handbook out there that says: “JW's are incorrect because they believe Michael is another name given to Jesus.” This is something that very rarely comes up in our lives. It's mentioned hardly ever, except in places like this.Quote The activities I remember as a kid were singing in the choirs and having parts in Christmas plays; of course Easter was always a bit deal!
Ther's also some threads on these. So, how will you follow this command?

June 14, 2007 at 6:35 am#55515Not3in1ParticipantOh, I don't “forsake the gathering together…” – I don't believe this has to be in a church, David. I gather with like-minded believers all the time. I gather here on HeavenNet. I gather on the phone with friends all over the state. I gather and chat with people I am ministering to who want to study and fellowship. I pray on the phone with family members and friends. There are numerous ways to “gather together….”

It may not come up very often in your life, but it is paramount in my life! The “who” and “what” is Jesus is the number one watershed topic for me. I believe it is pretty important to Jesus as well.“Who do you say that I am…..”
Important question to nail!

Peace!

Hi Chap,Welcome
Well, that is the problem that will never be solved I'm afraid…finding a Godly church! Most churches are social clubs. In fact, I just chatted with a few of my church friends. I asked them why they go to church and they told me it was the people! They loved the fellowship! Not a bad thing to love fellowship, don't get me wrong. We are encouraged to gather together for a reason and part of that reason is to build one another up and fellowship.
My point, however, is that quite a few in the church are not really listening to what they are being taught from the pulpit. I obviously fall into that category myself. I was a part of the church all my life and when someone told me the Trinity wasn't true……I didn't know how to defend it!! And I taught in the church! Good grief. Social club. It's a large reason why people go to church.
As for me, I've decided to be a part of the body of Christ in every possible way that I can. That means loving my neighbor, feeding the poor, excercising the fruit of the spirit and so on. My children will have a different up bringing than I had and sometimes that makes me sad because I loved church. But I love God more. And I want my children to KNOW HIM. They will see the body of Christ in action.
Hey Chap – glad you're here!
June 19, 2007 at 8:34 pm#55902acertainchapParticipantSup man nice to meet you as well!
