Hello fellow Bible students,
Let's study the word “root/s” according to Strong's #8328 in the Hebrew and Strong's #4491 in the Greek.The Hebrew word #8328 is (used 33 times in OT):
shoresh: a root

rhiza: a root
Original Word: ῥίζα, ης, ἡ
Part of Speech: Noun, Feminine

Everyone is welcome to post but please just post the Biblical scriptures that contain either of these two words and highlight them in the passage. Posts that do not follow the guidelines may be deleted in order to keep the integrity of the thread consistent.
Maybe through this study some light will be shed on the last words of our Lord Jesus in Revelations where He said:
Rev 22:16
“I, Jesus, have sent my angel to testify to you about these things for the churches. I am the root and the descendant of David, the bright morning star.”The commentaries tie this verse to:
Isaiah 11:1
There shall come forth a shoot from the stump of Jesse, and a branch from his roots shall bear fruit.These words in Rev 22:16 must be pretty important to the revelation of Jesus for them to be His last words to us in the scriptures.
Thanks for your help!

Quote 1Then Bildad the Shuhite answered, 2“How long will you say these things,
And the words of your mouth be a mighty wind?3“Does God pervert justice?
Or does the Almighty pervert what is right?4“If your sons sinned against Him,
Then He delivered them into the power of their transgression.5“If you would seek God
And implore the compassion of the Almighty,6If you are pure and upright,
Surely now He would rouse Himself for you
And restore your righteous estate.7“Though your beginning was insignificant,
Yet your end will increase greatly.8“Please inquire of past generations,
And consider the things searched out by their fathers.9“For we are only of yesterday and know nothing,
Because our days on earth are as a shadow.10“Will they not teach you and tell you,
And bring forth words from their minds?11“Can the papyrus grow up without a marsh?
Can the rushes grow without water?12“While it is still green and not cut down,
Yet it withers before any other plant.13“So are the paths of all who forget God;
And the hope of the godless will perish,14Whose confidence is fragile,
And whose trust a spider’s web.15“He trusts in his house, but it does not stand;
He holds fast to it, but it does not endure.16“He thrives before the sun,
And his shoots spread out over his garden.17“His roots wrap around a rock pile,
He grasps a house of stones.18“If he is removed from his place,
Then it will deny him, saying, ‘I never saw you.’19“Behold, this is the joy of His way;
And out of the dust others will spring.20“Lo, God will not reject a man of integrity,
Nor will He support the evildoers.21“He will yet fill your mouth with laughter
And your lips with shouting.22“Those who hate you will be clothed with shame,
And the tent of the wicked will be no longer.”KJV
Quote 1Then answered Bildad the Shuhite, and said, 2How long will you speak these things? and how long shall the words of your mouth be like a strong wind?
3Does God pervert judgment? or does the Almighty pervert justice?
4If your children have sinned against him, and he has cast them away for their transgression;
5If you would seek unto God early, and make your supplication to the Almighty;
6If you were pure and upright; surely now he would awake for you, and make the habitation of your righteousness prosperous.
7Though your beginning was small, yet your latter end should greatly increase.
8For inquire, I pray you, of the former age, and prepare yourself to the findings of their fathers:
9(For we are but of yesterday, and know nothing, because our days upon earth are a shadow:)
10Shall not they teach you, and tell you, and utter words out of their heart?
11Can the papyrus grow up without a marsh? can the reeds grow without water?
12While it is yet green, and not cut down, it withers before any other plant.
13So are the paths of all that forget God; and the hypocrite's hope shall perish:
14Whose confidence shall be cut off, and whose trust shall be a spider's web.
15He shall lean upon his house, but it shall not stand: he shall hold it fast, but it shall not endure.
16He grows green in the sun, and his branch shoots forth in his garden.
17His roots are wrapped about the stone heap, and looks for a place in the stones.
18If he is destroyed from his place, then it will deny him, saying, I have not seen you.
19Behold, this is the joy of his way, and out of the earth shall others grow.
20Behold, God will not cast away a blameless man, neither will he help the evil doers:
21Till he fills your mouth with laughing, and your lips with rejoicing.
22They that hate you shall be clothed with shame; and the dwelling place of the wicked will come to nothing.

3O God, restore us And cause Your face to shine [upon us], and we will be saved.
4O LORD God [of] hosts, How long will You be angry with the prayer of Your people?
5You have fed them with the bread of tears, And You have made them to drink tears in large measure.
6You make us an object of contention to our neighbors, And our enemies laugh among themselves.
7O God [of] hosts, restore us And cause Your face to shine [upon us], and we will be saved.
8You removed a vine from Egypt; You drove out the nations and planted it.
9You cleared [the ground] before it, And it took deep root and filled the land.
10The mountains were covered with its shadow, And the cedars of God with its boughs.
11It was sending out its branches to the sea And its shoots to the River.
12Why have You broken down its hedges, So that all who pass [that] way pick its [fruit]?
13A boar from the forest eats it away And whatever moves in the field feeds on it.
14O God [of] hosts, turn again now, we beseech You; Look down from heaven and see, and take care of this vine,
15Even the shoot which Your right hand has planted, And on the son whom You have strengthened for Yourself.
16It is burned with fire, it is cut down; They perish at the rebuke of Your countenance.
17Let Your hand be upon the man of Your right hand, Upon the son of man whom You made strong for Yourself.
18Then we shall not turn back from You; Revive us, and we will call upon Your name.
19O LORD God of hosts, restore us; Cause Your face to shine [upon us], and we will be saved.

Quote 1{{To the chief Musician upon Shoshannimeduth, A Psalm of Asaph. }} Give ear, O Shepherd of Israel, thou that leadest Joseph like a flock; thou that dwellest [between] the cherubims, shine forth. 2Before Ephraim and Benjamin and Manasseh stir up thy strength, and come [and] save us.
3Turn us again, O God, and cause thy face to shine; and we shall be saved.
4O LORD God of hosts, how long wilt thou be angry against the prayer of thy people?
5Thou feedest them with the bread of tears; and givest them tears to drink in great measure.
6Thou makest us a strife unto our neighbours: and our enemies laugh among themselves.
7Turn us again, O God of hosts, and cause thy face to shine; and we shall be saved.
8Thou hast brought a vine out of Egypt: thou hast cast out the heathen, and planted it.
9Thou preparedst [room] before it, and didst cause it to take deep root, and it filled the land.
10The hills were covered with the shadow of it, and the boughs thereof [were like] the goodly cedars.
11She sent out her boughs unto the sea, and her branches unto the river.
12Why hast thou [then] broken down her hedges, so that all they which pass by the way do pluck her?
13The boar out of the wood doth waste it, and the wild beast of the field doth devour it.
14Return, we beseech thee, O God of hosts: look down from heaven, and behold, and visit this vine;
15And the vineyard which thy right hand hath planted, and the branch [that] thou madest strong for thyself.
16[It is] burned with fire, [it is] cut down: they perish at the rebuke of thy countenance.
17Let thy hand be upon the man of thy right hand, upon the son of man [whom] thou madest strong for thyself.
18So will not we go back from thee: quicken us, and we will call upon thy name.
19Turn us again, O LORD God of hosts, cause thy face to shine; and we shall be saved.

Quote 1Then a shoot will spring from the stem of Jesse, And a branch from his roots will bear fruit. 2The Spirit of the LORD will rest on Him, The spirit of wisdom and understanding, The spirit of counsel and strength, The spirit of knowledge and the fear of the LORD.
3And He will delight in the fear of the LORD, And He will not judge by what His eyes see, Nor make a decision by what His ears hear;
4But with righteousness He will judge the poor, And decide with fairness for the afflicted of the earth; And He will strike the earth with the rod of His mouth, And with the breath of His lips He will slay the wicked.
5Also righteousness will be the belt about His loins, And faithfulness the belt about His waist.
6And the wolf will dwell with the lamb, And the leopard will lie down with the young goat, And the calf and the young lion and the fatling together; And a little boy will lead them.
7Also the cow and the bear will graze, Their young will lie down together, And the lion will eat straw like the ox.
8The nursing child will play by the hole of the cobra, And the weaned child will put his hand on the viper's den.
9They will not hurt or destroy in all My holy mountain, For the earth will be full of the knowledge of the LORD As the waters cover the sea.
10Then in that day The nations will resort to the root of Jesse, Who will stand as a signal for the peoples; And His resting place will be glorious.

Quote 1And there shall come forth a rod out of the stem of Jesse, and a Branch shall grow out of his roots: 2And the spirit of the LORD shall rest upon him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD;
3And shall make him of quick understanding in the fear of the LORD: and he shall not judge after the sight of his eyes, neither reprove after the hearing of his ears:
4But with righteousness shall he judge the poor, and reprove with equity for the meek of the earth: and he shall smite the earth with the rod of his mouth, and with the breath of his lips shall he slay the wicked.
5And righteousness shall be the girdle of his loins, and faithfulness the girdle of his reins.
6The wolf also shall dwell with the lamb, and the leopard shall lie down with the kid; and the calf and the young lion and the fatling together; and a little child shall lead them.
7And the cow and the bear shall feed; their young ones shall lie down together: and the lion shall eat straw like the ox.
8And the sucking child shall play on the hole of the asp, and the weaned child shall put his hand on the cockatrice' den.
9They shall not hurt nor destroy in all my holy mountain: for the earth shall be full of the knowledge of the LORD, as the waters cover the sea.
10And in that day there shall be a root of Jesse, which shall stand for an ensign of the people; to it shall the Gentiles seek: and his rest shall be glorious.

29″Do not rejoice, O Philistia, all of you, Because the rod that struck you is broken; For from the serpent's root a viper will come out, And its fruit will be a flying serpent.30″Those who are most helpless will eat, And the needy will lie down in security; I will destroy your root with famine, And it will kill off your survivors.
31″Wail, O gate; cry, O city; Melt away, O Philistia, all of you; For smoke comes from the north, And there is no straggler in his ranks.
32″How then will one answer the messengers of the nation? That the LORD has founded Zion, And the afflicted of His people will seek refuge in it.”
KJV
29Rejoice not thou, whole Palestina, because the rod of him that smote thee is broken: for out of the serpent's root shall come forth a cockatrice, and his fruit [shall be] a fiery flying serpent.30And the firstborn of the poor shall feed, and the needy shall lie down in safety: and I will kill thy root with famine, and he shall slay thy remnant.
31Howl, O gate; cry, O city; thou, whole Palestina, [art] dissolved: for there shall come from the north a smoke, and none [shall be] alone in his appointed times.
32What shall [one] then answer the messengers of the nation? That the LORD hath founded Zion, and the poor of his people shall trust in it.
