Proverbs 5:16-17
16 Should your springs overflow in the streets,
your streams of water in the public squares?17 Let them be yours alone,
never to be shared with strangers. What do these verses, mean? Help would be appreciated, thank you.

When all else fails, use a dynamic translation to get the theme of verses, and then return to literal translations to really study. Here's the passage from the NLT, with v15 thrown in for context
Pro 5:15 Drink water from your own well-share your love only with your wife.
Pro 5:16 Why spill the water of your springs in public, having sex with just anyone?
Pro 5:17 You should reserve it for yourselves. Don't share it with strangers. If you want different versions laid out like this, try blueletter.com. Several parallel translations of individual verses (or who passages) can be displayed at bible.cc.

The verse before [prov 5.15] says
“Drink water from your own cistern and fresh water from your own well.”Call no man RABBI…
Compare 1 jn 2.27
God wants to teach individuals who are reborn from above and will do so.Sadly men have preferred to follow other men who follow other men.

King James Version (KJV)15 Drink waters out of thine own cistern, and running waters out of thine own well.
16 Let thy fountains be dispersed abroad, and rivers of waters in the streets.
17 Let them be only thine own, and not strangers' with thee.
18 Let thy fountain be blessed: and rejoice with the wife of thy youth.
19 Let her be as the loving hind and pleasant roe; let her breasts satisfy thee at all times; and be thou ravished always with her love.
20 And why wilt thou, my son, be ravished with a strange woman, and embrace the bosom of a stranger? This is a parable of marriage where the marriage bond is symbolically represented by words related to water. It also applies to God and his people.

Yes be happy with the rod and staff of the shepherd. The water is the Spirit and the teaching that flows from God within.[jn7.38]
It is not for the carnal and strangers to the truth.
