Hi David
Quote (WorshippingJesus @ Feb. 15 2009,09:07) What are you trying to say David, there are different types of gods? I suppose you are right, there are “false ones” and a “True One”.
Do you really want to do this again David? Okay here goes…Quote (david @ Feb. 15 2009,10:51) WJ–Here is where you are wrong: You take the word “true” to mean that all other gods are false. But the word “true” does not mean all else is false.
But here is how scripturally you are wrong:The Bible says…
And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the “ONLY (Gr. MONOS) TRUE GOD”, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent. John 17:3
John wrote under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit that there is “ONE (Gr. MONOS) TRUE GOD”
The Greek word for “only” is ‘Monos’, which means; 1) alone (without a companion), forsaken, destitute of help, alone, only, merely
This agrees with another witness who was a Hebrew of the Hebrews, and was trained by the best scholars of his day, the Apostle Paul who wrote…
…we know that an idol is nothing in the world, and that “THERE IS NONE OTHER GOD BUT ONE”. ! Cor 8:4
Now this same John begins his Gospel with….
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and “THE WORD WAS GOD”. John 1:1
Did John have a lapse of memory between John 1:1 and John 17:3? In your mind could he be such an idiot to write “THE WORD WAS WITH GOD (Theos) AND THE WORD WAS GOD (theos)” and then write “ONLY (Gr. MONOS) TRUE GOD (theos), unless he believed they are “ONE”.
He could have used another word besides “theos”. In my mind John 17:3 is a proof text for the Deity of Christ, because John takes note how Jesus puts his own name “with” the Father as a prerequisite to eternal life by knowing both the Father and Jesus.
In writing John 17:3 John is simply confirming his first verse of the Gospel that states Jesus was with God and was God, as well as other accounts like the Jews on two occasions taking up stones to kill him becasue he was making himself equal to the Father, and the event of Thomas calling him his Lord and God without rebuke by Jesus.
It is John that also remembered that Jesus had said to Philip in answer to his request to see God, “how long have I been with you and you do not “know me”, if you have seen me then you have seen the Father (God). John 14
John also speaks of the “Word” coming in the flesh…
No one has ever seen God, “but God the One and Only (Monos), who is at the Father's side, has made him known. John 1:18
This also being confirmed by his 1st Epistle…
And we know that the Son of God is come, and hath given us an understanding, that “we may know him that is true” (John 17:3), and we are in him that is true, “even in his Son Jesus Christ. THIS IS THE TRUE GOD, AND ETERNAL LIFE”. 1 John 5:20
The Only True God David, not “Only True God” and “a true god”.
Quote (david @ Feb. 15 2009,10:51)
Example: If I said: “WJ, you are a true trinitarian.”What do I mean? Do I mean that the other trinitarians (and there are others) are “false trinitarians”?
Apples and oranges David. We Know there are more than “one” Trinitarian. But the Bible teaches there is only “One True God”.Quote (david @ Feb. 15 2009,10:51)
No, obviously not. What I am saying is that you embody the word “trinitarian” to a degree that others don't.
And people understand when we speak this way.
Really? How so? All Trinitarians as far as I know believe there is “One True God” and Jesus is True God, One with the Father and the Holy Spirit. But again, apples and oranges, there is only “One True God” taught in the Bible and all other so-called gods are false.
Quote (david @ Feb. 15 2009,10:51)
You are a true friend.
Does that mean my other friends are “false friends”? Nope!
David if they are a friend, then they are “true” or they are not friends at all. Get it? You can have many true friends, but you can only have “One True God”.The scriptures teach there is “Only One True God” all other so-called gods that men make are not gods at all.
Quote (david @ Feb. 15 2009,10:51)
The word “god” means “powerful/strong/mighty one.”
Show me David where you get this definition from, is it from watchtower? What “true god with divine powers or attributes” are written of in scripture? Just one scripture David.
Quote (david @ Feb. 15 2009,10:51) 2 Pet 2:11
“whereas angels, although they are greater in strength and power,”
I do not see the word “theos” written in that scripture. Where is the scripture that calls “AN ANGEL OF GOD” “el” “eloyhim” or “theos”? You have yet to present one scripture.Quote (david @ Feb. 15 2009,10:51)
Angels are relatively stronger than we are. Hence, they can be called gods, and are in scripture. ARe the angels false gods?
Where is the scripture? Where is an Angel called god in scripture? Satan? We don’t even know for sure satan is an angel, and yes he is a false god, for to a believer he is not god at all.Quote (david @ Feb. 15 2009,10:51)
No. So how is the Almighty one, the only true God?
You are not arguing with me David, you are arguing with scripture……we know that an idol is nothing
in the world, and that “THERE IS NONE OTHER GOD BUT ONE”. ! Cor 8:4And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the “ONLY (Gr. MONO) TRUE GOD”, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent. John 17:3
Ye are my witnesses, saith the LORD, and my servant whom I have chosen: that ye may know and believe me, and understand that I am he: “BEFORE ME THERE WAS NO GOD FORMED, neither shall there be after me”. Isa 43:10
NWT Isa 43:10
“YOU are my witnesses,” is the utterance of Jehovah, “even my servant whom I have chosen, in order that YOU may know and have faith in me, and that YOU may understand that I am the same One. “BEFORE ME THERE WAS NO GOD FORMED, AND AFTER ME THERE CONTINUED TO BE NONE”. 11 I—I am Jehovah, and besides me there is no savior.”NWT John 17:3
This means everlasting life, their taking in knowledge of you, “THE ONLY TRUE GOD”…NWT 1 Cor 8:4
we know that an idol is nothing in the world, and that “THERE IS NO GOD BUT ONE”.You are arguing against your own Bible David.
Quote (david @ Feb. 15 2009,10:51)
In the same way I can say my best friend is a “true friend.” It doesn't mean other friends are false, does it?
If they are not “True friends” then they are not friends at all David!I am confused how an intelligent man like you cannot understand this. You really need to rethink your doctrine David, for it is full of holes, even your NWT contradicts itself.

David let me introduce you to circle…

So how is the Almighty one, the only true God?
The scriptures say…And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the “ONLY (Gr. MONOS) TRUE GOD”, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent. John 17:3
…we know that an idol is nothing in the world, and that “THERE IS NONE OTHER GOD BUT ONE”. ! Cor 8:4
Ye are my witnesses, saith the LORD, and my servant whom I have chosen: that ye may know and believe me, and understand that I am he: “BEFORE ME THERE WAS NO GOD FORMED, neither shall there be after me”. Isa 43:10
And the scribe said unto him, Well, Master, thou hast said the truth: “FOR THERE IS ONE GOD; AND THERE IS NONE OTHER BUT HE“: Mk 12:32
For thou art great, and doest wondrous things: “THOU ART GOD ALONE“. Pss 86:10
O LORD of hosts, God of Israel, that dwellest between the cherubims, “THOU ART THE GOD, EVEN THOU ALONE“, of all the kingdoms of the earth: thou hast made heaven and earth. Isa 37:16
Unto thee it was shewed, that thou mightest know that “THE LORD HE IS GOD; THERE IS NONE ELSE BESIDE HIM”. Duet 4:35
Know therefore this day, and consider it in thine heart, that “the LORD he is God in heaven above, and upon the earth beneath: THERE IS NONE ELSE“. Deut 4:39
That all the people of the earth may know “that the LORD is God, and that THERE IS NONE ELSE“.1 Kings 8:60
I am the LORD, and “THERE IS NONE ELSE, THERE IS NO GOD BESIDE ME“: I girded thee, though thou hast not known me: Isa 45:5
That they may know from the rising of the sun, and from the west, that “there is none beside me. I am the LORD, AND THERE IS NONE ELSE“. Isa 45:6
and they shall fall down unto thee, they shall make supplication unto thee, saying, Surely God is in thee; and “THERE IS NONE ELSE, THERE IS NO GOD“. Isa 45:14
For thus saith the LORD that created the heavens; “God himself that formed the earth and made it“; he hath established it, he created it not in vain, he formed it to be inhabited: “I AM THE LORD; AND THERE IS NONE ELSE“. Isa 45:18
Tell ye, and bring them near; yea, let them take counsel together: who hath declared this from ancient time? who hath told it from that time? have not I the LORD? and “THERE IS NO GOD ELSE BESIDE ME; A JUST GOD AND A SAVIOUR; THERE IS NONE BESIDE ME“. Isa 45:21
Look unto me, and be ye saved, all the ends of the earth: “FOR I AM GOD, AND THERE IS NONE ELSE“. Isa 45:22
Remember the former things of old: for “I AM GOD, AND THERE IS NONE ELSE; I AM GOD, AND THERE IS NONE LIKE ME“, Isa 46:9
Scriptures are clear that there is “ONLY ONE TRUE GOD” and there is no other, for all other so-called gods by men are false and not gods at all!!!

Hey, are you the sort of guy who always calls facial tissue “kleenex”?
Hi DavidWhat are you trying to say David, there are different types of gods?
I suppose you are right, there are “false ones” and a “True One”.
WJ
WJ, you are not a wise man. (At least, according to your reasoning.) I'll explain why a little later, but first….How about Aspirin, or Jello? How about scotch tape or ziploc bags?
Because the word God is almost always used to refer to Jehovah, people tend to think that God=Father.
But that word (god) actually does have meaning and is applied to others. And if they don't know this, they get confused.
The other thing is, people seem to think the word God is only applied to things that are worshipped. Not so in scripture.
What does “I have made thee a god to Pharaoh” mean? Was Moses a false god? Or does the word “god” have an actual meaning? (Ex 4:16; 7:1)
If you knew what the word “god” means, you'd understand it. If you think “god” means “creator/Father” you are now confused.
-Talking about Jesus Paul wrote to the Hebrews:
HEBREWS 2:7
“You made him a little lower than angels; with glory and honor you crowned him, and appointed him over the works of your hands.”
It is clearly a quote from Ps 8:5. But notice what word Ps 8:5 used:
PSALM 8:5
“You also proceeded to make him a little less than godlike ones, And with glory and splendor you then crowned him.”
The Hebrew word there in Psalm 8:5 that is translated as “angels” in Hebrews 2:7, is the same word rendered “God” at Exodus 7:1, and also Gen 1:1. In fact, some Bibles actually render that word ‘God’ in Psalm 8:5. (ASV, NASB; Amplified Bible; NLT; etc.)If you understand what the word “god” means, this will make sense. If you think that god=Father/Creator, then you are once again confused right now.
ROMANS 16:27
“to God, wise alone, be the glory through Jesus Christ forever. Amen.”–NW
“To God only wise, be glory through Jesus Christ for ever. Amen.”–KJ
Does saying that Jehovah is wise alone mean that no one else can be called wise? No, it means that comparitively speaking, no one else is wise.Isn't this how we understand that?
Yet, when we hear that the Father is the only true God, we for some reason take that word “true” to mean that every other mention of a god is “false.”The Hebrew word for “god” means mighty one. There, the confusion is over.
