ParticipantHi Cato
It is refreshing to see someone here actually acknowledge that research shows that intercessory prayer has no measurable effect. Of course you are right that if the prayer results in someone doing something medically valid, then there was value there, but it is a perverse way of going about it. Why not shout 'is there an oncologist in the house'? In this particular case the question becomes 'is there an evangelist in the house?'
Perhaps you write in general terms about the consent issue, and of course you are right. Again though it is this particular case, not of attempting (and enevitably failing) to heal by summoning magic forces, but the bare-faced condescention of equating medical healing with 'salvation' that is offensive. Non-belief is not a medical condition, and in my opinion is actually a healthier state of being, lacking as it is the paranoia that christians must carry in some amount.

ParticipantMy husband, Dan, is going in for surgery tomorrow. He put a screwdriver through his hand! He managed to miss the bones but hit a bundle of nerves. His left hand has a few fingers that are numb now.
Thanks so much,
