I have a friend that asked “if God is control and knows all,” why do you need to pray for people and things. Can you give me some scripture…I have few but need more.

Hi Malysc,First let me say welcome to the forum and I'm glad you're here!
That's an easy answer: we are to remind God of his promises,
not because he doesn't know what they are but, to prove to
all the Angels that are watching in the Spirit realm we know
what God's promises are and we expect God to fulfill them!God bless

Welcome. When I was younger or 'Spiritually blind' I would only ever pray when I needed help! When everything was such a mess. “Help me God” desperation. But when I was led by God, prayer became something else. Its time with God, connection with your mind and heart and words, sometimes no words, sometimes silence speaking from the 'heart' sometimes thinking of someone, sometimes worry for someone, sometimes love no words just feeling, I believe God knows everything we dont need to say anything, we dont even need to use names. God knows. But its the closeness the relationship with God no matter what you do or dont say God knows anyway. He just wants us to know Him, to connect, to give of our time to give our trust in Him.
Pray to Heavenly Father through Jesus. Ask questions if you need, always end with 'a moments silence' 'listen' as well as speak.
Scripture…”All who call on the name of the Lord will be saved” is what comes to mind….Romans 10:13..Acts 2:21
God bless.

July 3, 2010 at 3:22 pm#201484JustAskinParticipantWhy pray for others?
Because God can be petitioned.
Did not Abraham petitiin God to save Sodom and Gomorrah?
Did Jesus not petition God to give him the power and authority to raise the Widows only son from the dead?Yes, God listens to heaetfelt pleading that is harmonious with His justice.
Abraham wanted S&G saved because his nephew lived there. In the end, the iniquity was too much so Lot and his family were taken out and the place destroyed.
With the widow. Understand the times. The widow had no one, no male, left in here family and would have been destitute. God, through Jesus, due to the heartfelt petitioning, and yes, there was also another reason, listened and granted the favour.
This is, for us, an example of 'forgiveness' and 'compassion'. Was the widow the only widow in the town? Then why her…as a demonstration and example to all.Yes, pray for others to let God know you support that person despite their sin, asking God to forgive them and by such, hopefully bring them to the knowledge and 'beginning of the fear' of God, as Saul was brought to the 'fear of God' through David sparing his life.
Pray, also, in support of your brethren and sistren, in God. Pray that God will continue to help tgem, to support them, to keep the Holy Spirit on them, and that they may remain in the way of God.But…those being prayed for must also be complicit in the petition otherwise they may believe that their salvation is from themselves.
There was a certain woman whose mother was having a problem with her telephone. The woman rang the phone company and 'petitioned' them to help her mother out.
At once, the phone company, realising it was an old lady on her own and vulnerable, dispatched a resolution team who quickly found and rectified the problem. The next morning, the old lady gave the phone a couole of gentle taps then rang her daughter and, find the line to be wrorking ok, said, 'Don't bother putting in a service call, dear. I just fixed the fault!!'
July 4, 2010 at 3:44 am#201607karmarieParticipantWell said Ja.
Also, if you really loved someone, would you want them to ignore you? You'd appretiate if they came to you . So God wants all to come to him.
We love him because he first loved us…1st john 4:19As God he knows more than we do. So we should go to him. He wants us to. And he wants to see us loving each other too. Praying for others shows him we do care. He knows our hearts.
July 8, 2010 at 1:42 pm#202528theodorejParticipantGreetings JA….The power of prayer can be appreciated only when you realize a few factors…The first being that God acts in his own good time,The second being that sometimes the answer is NO…Lastly , an ernest heartfelt pray for forgivness is always answered, another is a prayer for wisdom…….GOD will hear the prayers of a Nation as he did with Ninevah, when the people want to change or repent..
July 9, 2010 at 2:21 am#202628942767ParticipantHi malysc:
First of all, when we are reconciled to God, we come to Him with a repentant heart asking for forgiveness, believing what he has done for us in the person of Jesus His Son and His Christ.
God desires to have a relationship with us but he will not violate our “free will”, and so, we must ask for this relationship.
After we are a part of the body of Christ, our mission as a church is to go into all of the world and glorify God through the life that we live in obedience to His Word. We are his hands, feet, and eyes in this world, and so, whatever we ask in accordance to his will, which is the salvation of his children from destruction, He will do. There as some things that we cannot do ourselves, and so, we ask God to help as we are conformed to his image and as we learn to do his will.
And so, yes, God can do everything and anything without us, but it is through obedience to His Word that we become like Him. In essence, as Jesus said in John 14, it is the Father doing the works through us, and how else can we become like Him unless there were somewhere for us to put His Word into practice.
Love in Christ,

Yes, I know what you are talking about. Gene for instance went to do the same Church at one time and was according to Scripture baptized and received God's Holy Spirit. The difference between Him and I is that I always have been looking for God. Even as a small s Child, right after the war, people were saying that the world is coming to an end. I went into a clover field and laying in the clover said to God :” Her I am God, I am ready for you.” Needless to say the world did not come to an end that day…. I almost died when I was 8 and worms were eating me up, long story, but God saved me then. I also am very sick with having lupus and Congestive Heart-failure…. I am on Oxygen 24 hours a day….Just to name a few. At 40 I thought I am not going to be 50. At 50 i thought I was not going to be 60, and here I am at 72 and still alive. I believe you should read the story again ,Abraham pray for is nephew, and since he lived there ,he ask God IF there is 5 righteous living in those city would you (GOD) spared the city,
but we know there was only 4 or 3.
how could some one pray for the wicket world ?this i do not understand.
pray for the ones who persecute you yes this is done in withnessing just like Christ.
pray for individuals thats good,
Pierre
Hi Terraricca,Lot, his wife, and “two” daughters makes 4, do you pay
the same attention to the other Scriptures as well?
No wonder you attack us all? (Romans 12:18)
Romans 12:18 If it be possible, as much as
lieth in you, live peaceably with all men.Witnessing to the world in behalf of YHVH (Psalm 45:17)
יהוה האלהים (JEHOVAH GOD) YÄ-hä-vā hä ĔL-ō-Hêêm!
Ed J (AKJV Joshua 22:34 / Isaiah 60:13-15)

edjyou too should read the story again;
do you see i put 4 ahead of 3;this way someone could understand that there was only 3that actually where saved
Lot and his two daughters, because his wife became a pillar of salt.because she could not observe simple instruction like some on this forum.Pierre
Hi Terraricca,Perhaps the exactness in wording (I use in teaching) may seem troubling to you (Eph. 4:11-16),
but I assure you it's only for everyone's clarity in understanding! (Mathew 23:11-12 / Luke 21:36)Jude 1:5 I will therefore put you in remembrance, though ye once knew this, how that the Lord,
having saved the people out of the land of Egypt, afterward destroyed them that believed not.Witnessing to the world in behalf of YHVH (Psalm 45:17)
יהוה האלהים (JEHOVAH GOD) YÄ-hä-vā hä ĔL-ō-Hêêm!
