I have often stayed much away from the Old Testament. It seemed to contain less of a message to my Christianity. But with my recent move away from the belief of Trinity, I find that the OT intrigues me. Why? Because we see YHWH, the Father, in the OT. It seems that the New Testament focuses heavily on His Son and the Father is less in focus.
SO….is it any wonder why we still have the Old Testament? I know why, and it is why I have a new yearning for it. I want to know both Father and Son, not just Son. That is why, IMO, we will always have New and Old Testament in our Bibles.
The Father revealed Himself through His Son, but the OT will give you an even greater knowledge of the One who sent His Son to save us all.

Try these.
Matthew 13:52
Then said he unto them, Therefore every scribe which is instructed unto the kingdom of heaven is like unto a man that is an householder, which bringeth forth out of his treasure things new and old.
Luke 5:39
No man also having drunk old wine straightway desireth new: for he saith, The old is better.
Luke 5:37
And no man putteth new wine into old bottles; else the new wine will burst the bottles, and be spilled, and the bottles shall perish.July 18, 2007 at 1:35 am#60426kejonnParticipantNick,
Good ones brother . I've got a lot of catching up to do!

Great post! I agree wholeheartedly that the OT is still just as important as the NT. Paul says at Romans 15:4 “For all things that were written aforetime were written for our instruction…”
2Timothy 3:16,17 “All scripture is inspired of God and beneficial for teaching, for reproving, for setting things straight, for disciplining in righteousness, that the man of God may be fully competent, completely equipped for every good work.”
We cannot understand the NT without the OT. Both are essential according to the verses above. Remember, Jesus quoted from the OT and fulfilled over 300 prohesies from the OT.In Christ

I hope your study of the OT and the questions it raised for you about the NT comes to the situation where you love and accept both as they are together the revelation of God.January 23, 2008 at 10:00 pm#79923kejonnParticipantHey Nick,
There are many questions that won't have answers in this lifetime. The bible is chock full of them. I see the bible as a progressive record of man's relationship to God. That, in part, is why I believe Christianity is starting to see a decline: we are relying on a book that has been sealed up for almost 2000 years. When did God stop talking?
January 23, 2008 at 10:14 pm#79927NickHassanParticipantHi KJ,
The work of the Spirit is to remind us of the words of Christ and He does not speak of his own initiative [Jn14-16].
So we must remain within those words to remain in fellowship with the Father and the son[2Jn]January 24, 2008 at 12:38 am#79933kejonnParticipantThen we can throw everything out past GoJ? Those where someone else's (Paul, etc) words.
January 24, 2008 at 12:43 am#79934NickHassanParticipantHi KJ,
Christ was in Paul.January 24, 2008 at 1:53 am#79941kejonnParticipantIs Christ in all true Christians? Or did he stop 2000 years ago?
January 24, 2008 at 2:07 am#79944NickHassanParticipantHi KJ,
Indeed.
All who are reborn from above have Christ in them.
No that promise is for all who are far off, as many as the Lord God shall call to Himself[Acts 2.39]January 24, 2008 at 2:28 am#79946NickHassanParticipantHi KJ,
Of course many are planted of God but they become stillborn.
Christ was excited to hear Peter manifesting the work of the Spirit in him
But Paul was frustrated by the slow growth of the work of God in the Galatians.Gal 4.19
They had already been baptised into and clothed with Christ Gal 3.27
but the good fruit of the Spirit had not shown.Gal 5.22f
rather they still manifested their father.Gal 5.19January 24, 2008 at 3:22 am#79974kejonnParticipantQuote (Nick Hassan @ Jan. 23 2008,20:07) Hi KJ,

So if Christ is in all Christians, why do you only accept what is written in a book 2000 years ago when there have billions of Christians since?January 24, 2008 at 3:36 am#79981NickHassanParticipantHi KJ,
And you know many more blessed in wisdom than Paul?
Where are they?January 24, 2008 at 3:38 am#79983kejonnParticipantI have no idea, I don't go out looking for them. I guess Paul is part of your trinity then? God, Jesus, Paul. Do you pray to Paul?
January 24, 2008 at 3:40 am#79985NickHassanParticipantHi KJ,
You are not doing yourself any good here playing silly games.
We would prefer to respect you.January 24, 2008 at 4:23 am#79992kejonnParticipantWhy should you respect me? You said we should only respect those who wrote the bible.
I am not playing silly games Nick. I'm just getting you to face a little reality — the bible was written by men.
January 24, 2008 at 4:59 am#79994NickHassanParticipantHi KJ,
Did I?
Trust the bible KJ.
It is the best we have got.January 24, 2008 at 12:15 pm#80009kejonnParticipantI'd rather trust God. Much better.
January 24, 2008 at 5:19 pm#80013Not3in1ParticipantI was thinking…..
The folks in the OT died with no hope of the resurrection. Where was their hope? Did they believe in heaven and they would go there?
