MONOGENES means only or only begotten.

Is this true?
Hi Nick, No – it simply means “only begotten”,
gender is not included in this word!MONO: means one or only and
GENES: means offspring or progeny
Jammin needs to study 'his Greek' a bit more.God bless

Do the manuscripts for MONOGENES in heb 11 have the word SON as well?
I do not think so and if not it puts a different light on it too.May 22, 2012 at 9:19 pm#299009Ed JParticipantHi Nick,
No, it is grammatically implied by the object (Issac).

Ed J.The word you are looking for is infer as imply means hints or suspicions; at least it did before too many misused it and so changed the language. That is my complaint about how language misuse and change complicates communications.
The fact Isaac is a male does not mean only begotten Son is inferred by the words monogenes as Isaac was the only legitimate child of either gender. Some translators get to focused on Jesus being the Son of God and forget he is the only “legitimate” child of God as well.

To be technical (μονογενής) Monogenes means only birthed child.
Siblings from another parent are excluded from the term “only”.God bless

Hi Jammin,There is no such thing as an only begotten god.
Jesus is God's (μονογενης υιος) only begotten son.
God has other children, and Jesus has other siblings.Your brother
