    Matthew 8:11
11I say to you that many will come from the east and the west, and will take their places at the feast with Abraham, Isaac and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven.

??? …. is this scripture speaking figuritively about Abraham, Issac, and Jacob…or does this scripture plainly show that Jesus expected to see them in heaven

Through the tenor of the bible, we are told that the father's are “sleeping”. That indeed, we will join them when we die. Do you remember who Saul called “up” from his rest?

    Hi DK,
The kingdom of heaven is not just in heaven but encompasses earth where men will dwell with God. It is the kingdom ruled by God from heaven.

    These are equivalent
    Matthew 3:2
And saying, Repent ye: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.

    Mark 1:15
And saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel

    Hi Mandy,
Soul sleep was true under the old covenant. After Christ returned in AD70 those who slept were resurrected up from hades to their new bodies from heaven. Hades itself was cast into the lake of fire. New covenant Christians don't sleep but are “raptured.” That is, when we put off these earthly bodies our souls will be immediately caught up to heaven to our immortal bodies that are from heaven (2 Cor. 4:16-5:5). Our earthly bodies will be eaten by the bugs.

    Hi TT,
Hades will be cast into the fire but only when the end comes and it has no further use.[Rev20]
Only the brothers of Jesus are taken to the mansions of Christ.

    Nick,
All God's people have been reconciled to Him. Does the wife keep her husband sleeping on the couch after they are reconciled? There is no need for us to sleep in hades because we are reconciled to God now.

    Hi TT,
Th price is paid. Some have accepted the offer. But few have let the Spirit lead them .

All who believe are reconciled to God and therefore go straight to God when they leave this earth. Soul sleep was old covenant.

    Hi TT,
So when Paul spoke of those who had fallen asleep what did he mean?

    Hi Nick,
All who died up until Christ's coming in AD70 were old covenant saints. Therefore they had to sleep in hades. All saints after AD70 are new covenant saints and they do not sleep. They go straight to God.

    Hi TT,
That is a popular opinion but unsupported by scripture

    Nick,
What does reconciliation mean to you?

    Hi TT,
Sin has always separated men from God.
Sin is forgiven in repentance and rebirth by the inner cleansing of the blood of the Lamb.
Thus we who are prodigal sons can be wrapped in the robe of righteousness of the Son of God, adopted sons.

Then why would God keep us separated from Him in hades?

    Hi TT,
Just because it exists does not mean it is your fate.
Even in the time of Jesus there was the bosom of Abraham option.[lk16]

Now there are the mansions of Christ.[jn14]
