Quote (Nick Hassan @ April 08 2008,18:37) Hi Stu,
Women's weekly version?
No.
Gen1
14And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years:
So the stars are IN the firmament. What does that mean?By the way, there is only one 'light' that divides day from night, so the use of the plural is incorrect.

Would you have been happier if Genesis was an astronomy lesson?April 8, 2008 at 11:02 am#86383CatoParticipantQuote (Nick Hassan @ April 08 2008,10:43) Hi cato,
And God gave us the stars for signs.
Urim and Thummin were used.
Drawing lots showed the will of God too.
It was even used by the disciples.God uses multiple means to show His plan and His will among His people.
But apart from Him things are not of faith and thus of sin.
So parts of what you generically call Magic is acceptable.Astrology signs in the stars
Divination Urim and Thummin, drawing lots
Joseph could also scry in a silver cup
Elisha could curse children who mocked his baldness
Daniel can be master of magicians
Hebrew priests can make potions and curse sinnersSo a blanket prescription against magic is obviously mistaken. So it appears magic (other then necromancy) is evidently ok if your reasons and purposes serve God.

I would be happier if it was closer to reality since it is supposed to be the infallible word of Yahweh.April 8, 2008 at 11:12 am#86386kejonnParticipantCato,
Don't forget, Yahweh is “above the law” so if he or one of his servants does something “sinful”, it is not really wrong.

It would be better to tell Kevin why he is supposedly unfamiliar with scripture? I'd like to know, too. I think Kevin is pretty well studied. Is what he said wrong? If so, why?

Did you know that many atheists were former Christians who really started reading the OT with an open mind? Fortunately for me, I still hold fast to God, just not Yahweh. That name represents the Hebrew view of God which I can not agree with.April 9, 2008 at 1:39 am#86453NickHassanParticipantHi Kj,

David fought against the determined spirits of men that desired to rule the nations, even Moses Laws made men relentless, determined, whom under law would not negotiate; they demand all to bow before them. What can you do to remain free in birthright?
David had no choice but to retaliate or bow. There is really only One God, in hindsight, with battles that split him according to his nature?
