I am asking all of you to tell us what to you LOVE is to you in it (SIMPLEST OVER ALL MEANING). i will save my commit on it for later. So let everyone describe what does Love mean to you Personally. Looking for the simplest overall meaning not small acts of kindness or facets of it just the overall meaning.

This may be one of those words that you know what it is when you see it since every definition I can think of includes a synonym of the word “love”.
Lets take “benevolence” which means the disposition to do good. Good is a “synonym” of “love”.

Where is the concept of unconditional love expressed in scripture?
Scripture states:
1 Corinthians 13
4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
So what does “Love does not delight in evil…” mean according to scripture”?
Psalms 11
5 The LORD examines the righteous,
but the wicked, those who love violence,
he hates with a passion.
6 On the wicked he will rain
fiery coals and burning sulfur;
a scorching wind will be their lot.
7 For the LORD is righteous,
he loves justice;
the upright will see his face.2 Corinthians 6
17 Therefore,
“Come out from them
and be separate,
says the Lord.
Touch no unclean thing,
and I will receive you.”A temptation to sin is an unclean thing.
God’s loves the wicked only in desiring that they change their ways and do what is right so they do not perish. So that is God’s condition; for without it he would not be a loving God.
We can through faith obey the command to live by the spirit of God’s love as long as we have received that Spirit. If we have not received it then we cannot since we would then be a slave to sin, which is to say hatred.
You confuse me as it seems you write one is compelled to love because it is an emotion and then switch and state one is not compelled. Could you please clarify?
I state it is a choice for those that have received the spirit of God, in its role of councilor.

With that I agree. That is the kind of love that Jesus has.. And God loved so the world that He gave his only begotten Son, so we will have eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord…

April 3, 2011 at 10:26 am#241837WispringParticipantHi Tim and Kerwin,
Kerwin, this illustrates the concept of unconditional love.
Quote Matthew 5:44-46 (King James Version) 44But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;
45That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.
46For if ye love them which love you, what reward have ye? do not even the publicans the same?
Quote So what does “Love does not delight in evil…” mean according to scripture”?
Kerwin, this scripture is quite plain in meaning. To view or perceive that which is evil through loving eyes or a loving heart is not to delight in it.Quote God’s loves the wicked only in desiring that they change their ways and do what is right so they do not perish. So that is God’s condition; for without it he would not be a loving God.
This scripture express's what I just said in my own words even more fully.Quote You confuse me as it seems you write one is compelled to love because it is an emotion and then switch and state one is not compelled. Could you please clarify?
Kerwin, of course, it is not my intent to confuse. We are made in God's image/pattern. One of the attributes within this pattern is the ability to love. There are many expressions of love. Look at all the literature, poems, and songs that have been written about love. To be honest, I would have to say that since love is infinite in quality it will never in human terms be fully expressed. This is a good thing as it always leaves room for more growth in love. God is always sending messages and messengers of love to the people living on this lovely earth.
When I was a younger man I read a book entitled “Love” by Leo Buscaglia.Quote Leo F. Buscaglia quotes“Love is always open arms. If you close your arms about love you will find that you are left holding only yourself.” Leo F. Buscaglia quote
I learned many things from reading this book Kerwin. I invite you to read it. My own mother taught me about unconditional love. She is about your age now(I think). She told me it was God's love. Everyone learns different things at different times and different places from different people. Yes, God's love is communicated to us via the Holy Spirit. Neither I nor you “own” the Holy Spirit. It dwells within us continiously and is actively teaching us about God. The ambience of your questions regarding unconditional love gives me the impression that you consider it to be ungodly. I humbly and with loving-kindness suggest you re-consider your own personal definition of unconditional love.Quote Post Subject Spacer Hi Tim,
This to me is an easy question. The answere?Quote GOD IS LOVE ! With Love and Respect,

April 3, 2011 at 3:01 pm#241853GeneBalthropParticipantTo All………….The Key in my view is to understand what LOVE Does or causes a good help is to understand what hate the opposite does or causes . It is real simple what a man Hates he or she rejects, what a man or women loves they hold on to. Just that simple nothing complicated about it. Let me paraphrase something for you, GOD so LOVED wanted to hold on to the world that he gave his only begotten son, that whosoever should believe on him should not parish. It is all about what you want to Keep and what you want to get rid off. What you love you will keep what you Hate you will reject. If you love your life (the way you live) you will KEEP IT, if you Hate your life (the way YOU LIVE you will forsake it. ” FOR THESE LOVED NOT THEIR LIVES unto death.
peace and LOVE to you all…………………..gene
April 3, 2011 at 3:27 pm#241855WispringParticipantThe opposite of love is indifference or apathy
April 3, 2011 at 3:29 pm#241856WispringParticipantI would say the opposite of hate is compassion
April 3, 2011 at 3:50 pm#241857WispringParticipantHi Gene,
You are getting better using iB Code.
I like to use the preview just to make sure I used it properly.April 3, 2011 at 3:57 pm#241858GeneBalthropParticipantWispring …………..That is right the opposite of Hate is compassion another descriptor for Love , so we need to examine what DRIVES compassion. Compassion is another word for Mercy driven by a feeling of sorrow for another. The bottom line is GOD extends His Hand to us through sorrow and compassion which CAUSES him to be merciful to us, a hand for us to grab hold of. GOD IS LOVE.
peace and lvoe to you and yours…………………………………….gene

I agree for the most part but love would have turn loose of someone if it was better for them, simply because love would have you put their best interest first.My opinion _ wm
April 3, 2011 at 5:14 pm#241869GeneBalthropParticipantWM………..Yes but you really are not turning loose of them you are doing what is Good for them so in a sens you still are holding on tho them even of you let go for their good. You are not really letting go or rejecting them But some circumstance that is hindering them in your mind. I do know what you are saying brother.
peace and love to you and yours……………………………..gene

I believe the darkness spoken of in scripture is hate and the light is love. And the hate (darkness) has never overcome the love (light).Quote GOD so LOVED wanted to hold on to the world that he gave his only begotten son, that whosoever should believe on him should not parish. And Greater love hath no man than he who lays down his life for another. (John 15:13)
And when I was thinking of the simplest way to SUM UP love that's what I came up with in my earlier post… Love in its simplest form I think would be when you love someone so much you would die for them if you had to.
Only after did I see it goes with scripture too.
