Quote (Stu @ Jan. 24 2010,16:39) Quote The fact is STU if you deny that God exists you deny the entire Jewish heritage and relegate The Jews as deceivers, liars and delusional. Do you believe this? If you do just say it
You could say please!Stuart

I believe it is not possible to experience things that do not exist, except in the psychological / placebo sense.I believe there is no such thing as a god to do any speaking. Why would you ask such a question unless it is that you have no capacity for putting yourself in others' shoes?

So the Jews were delusional?January 25, 2010 at 1:49 am#173016StuParticipantIt is my belief that anyone who believes in a god is delusional in that belief. I would not apply that to a secular Jew that did not believe in Imaginary Sky Friends.

I thought I might have to.The bible is historical fiction. It is a set of mythological tales set in surroundings that really exist (notwithstanding that we do not know where Mt. Sinai is, for example).
So, as I have said all along, it is the god belief and associated absurdities like there being giants and angels and humans living for hundreds of years, but it is not true that “the Jews that professed the things in the bible and the Jews that do so today including all Rabbis are liars or delusional” because there are aspects of the geography and history of the bible that are true.
The delusional bits are specific to god-belief and its associated rituals.

So you believe in bits of delusion surrouded by lucidity and integrity?January 25, 2010 at 6:21 am#173111StuParticipantI am sure the delusional god belief appears to be lucid to the believer. I guess that is the thing about a delusion, and the answer to what you were saying earlier. If a person is deceived by the delusion into viewing it as reality, then that person is not lying: the use of that word in relation to what a person thinks god has done would be a category error.
Note that it is not as such when it comes to creationism, because a creation-deluded person must first take scientific understanding and misrepresent it. The exception comes when a creationist represents the science accurately then says that they accept that their beliefs contradict the science, but nevertheless they think that the science is a complete illusion. There is little argument against that view, especially if you take Descartes seriously.

Is it possible that the delusional NON-belief of God appears to be lucid to the NON-believer?January 25, 2010 at 7:04 am#173125Not3in1ParticipantBod,
Have you read The God Delusion? Good read – a must for Christians who want the “flip side” to Josh McDowells, “Evidence Demands a Verdict”.

It is a delusion to believe that there are alien spacecraft overhead when only you and perhaps a few others claim to be able to see them, and they are otherwise completely undetectable by any known means? If so, then disbelief in gods is not a delusion.
