Hi KW,
What else do you doubt?
Must truth be tested against your perceptions?

Washing precedes the baptism of the Spirit except when God judges them already clean

An arrogant response since Paul did not make the same response when the Bereans chose to test his words by what Scripture states. If it is important then it is provable by Scripture.

That hypothesis is supported by circumstantial evidence but does that mean it is true?
November 15, 2015 at 9:43 am#804793NickHassanParticipantHi KW,
So nothing is true unless it satisfies your mind?
November 15, 2015 at 1:20 pm#804802kerwinParticipantNick,
Nothing is either true or false unless that it is proved by Scripture. Look for more evidence to support or break the case you are making but listen to the Spirit of God.
November 15, 2015 at 1:31 pm#804803NickHassanParticipantHi KW,
It was prophesied that Jesus would baptise his brothers in the Holy Spirit.
Do you doubt this happened?
November 15, 2015 at 1:59 pm#804804kerwinParticipantNick,
I have no doubt it occurred but I have heard no solid case that Scripture gives an account of it occurring. I can guess it occurred on Pentecost or within less then a few days of that time as that range of time was foretold.

Hi T,
They were given the Spirit before Pentecost. jn 20.22.
But their baptism in the Spirit was at pentecost.
Ac 1:4 On one occasion, while he was eating with them, he gave them this command: “Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the gift my Father promised, which you have heard me speak about.
Ac 1:5 For John baptized in water, but in a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.”and what his that baptism ? and what is the difference of what happen in John 20;22 ?
and did all of them were baptised in water again ? in the name of Jesus ?
November 19, 2015 at 8:51 am#804980NickHassanParticipantHi,
There is enough information in the book of Acts about baptism.
But it is not magic as the account of Simon Magus in Acts 8 demonstrates
November 19, 2015 at 9:03 am#804982kerwinParticipantTerraica,
Will you dare to boldly speak where Scripture choose to remain silent?
November 19, 2015 at 9:04 am#804983kerwinParticipantNick,
Acts covers baptism in the name of Jesus best but other books of Scripture mention it as well.
November 29, 2015 at 2:19 pm#805279NickHassanParticipantHi,
What scripture makes plain through the water baptism of Simon Magus in Acts is that baptism is not a magic ceremony.
All must repent or they will likewise perish. All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.
Baptism is an acknowledgement before God and men that, unlike Jesus of Nazareth we are sinners in need of salvation.
1 Peter 3, rom 3, Lk 13.3
November 29, 2015 at 2:24 pm#805280dwillssParticipantAmen brother, the purpose I see behind baptism is to share your testimony before the church and God. A declaring of ones salvation and glorifying God for his Grace. It’s to be a celebration and a time for praise. Not something we just do because we are told to but because we want to. Our hearts should be so filled with Joy that despite our wretched heart God was merciful and we should want to proclaim his Mercy to the church.

Are miracles magic?
November 29, 2015 at 3:58 pm#805284ShayneParticipantA number of months AFTER receiving of the holy spirit , I went and fellowshipped with a pentecostal church . I asked the pastor if he could baptise me and the answer I received was to the effect that I needed to be a member of their church for awhile and come to study and over time the pastor would see the spirit manifested in me . I then went to a baptist church and asked the same question, got pretty much the same answer, finally, I went to a SDA church ( I was keeping the “sabbath” at that time. And I received the same answers in addition to the need to profess that Ellen White was a true prophet, mandatory membership etc. I had enough of this !! I gathered a dozen christions together from various demonimations, got my parents and had my father in law baptise me!!!! I wanted him , of course, to baptise me in Yeshua’s name but I cannot remember how that went lol
November 29, 2015 at 4:00 pm#805285ShayneParticipantI shall never take membership in any church but am free to fellowship with believers
November 29, 2015 at 4:17 pm#805287dwillssParticipantMy reformed church (Harvest bible chapel) required the same thing and I didn’t agree with it but now I understand the need for it. There are so many false converts and our church wants to protect itself so in order to get baptized they want to make sure your salvation is genuine and you follow the same theological understanding of the gospel etc.
Thing is when I got baptized I knew all the right theology etc but I was an outward Christian not a real one and they didn’t pick up on this so the membership really doesn’t do much except make one feel restricted. Our membership is between ourself and God. I shouldn’t feel separated from other branches of Christianity because this causes division. If we all believe the true Gospel saved by grace through faith alone (Ephesians 2:8-9) then we should treat all with the same brotherly love despite some theological differences. Heck even revelations starts off with 7 different types of churches that God showed love to except 2 of them and none of them were perfect but they each had something to offer. Membership creates division.
