The “problem of evil” has been the primary argument against the existence of God throughout history. The question is, if God is real, why does he permit so much suffering in the world? Recently, atheists have countered the argument from cosmic fine-tuning by suggesting that the properties required for life in our universe are not surprising if there are countless alternative universes. However, if atheists can use the notion of infinite universes to explain our universe’s characteristics, then can’t theists also do the same? David Wood examines the multiverse’s response to the problem of evil.
