How can the world’s oldest person be dead?

Sorry but I am going to correct the world with this one. How can the world’s oldest person be dead? They are only the world’s oldest person while they are alive. Once they are dead, then they compete with people that are already dead, some of which could have actually lived longer. They are in fact the youngest dead person at the moment of their death, if you start counting from when they died.
