‘Monstrous’ site in Jordan matches the descriptions of the area destroyed by God in the Old Testament
- The site at Tall el-Hamaam, Jordan, dates back between 3500 and 1540 BC
- Experts claim its location and size matches Biblical descriptions of Sodom
- Sodom is said to have been destroyed by God for being full of sin
- Evidence suggests Tall el-Hammam was similarly suddenly abandoned before being rebuilt 700 years later
After decades of excavations, researchers believe they have finally found the ruins of the Biblical city of Sodom.
Experts investigating the region of Tall el-Hammam in Jordan believe the remains of a ‘monstrous’ Bronze Age city match the Biblical description of the city destroyed by God.
Not only would the site have been the largest city in the region, as described in the Bible, it is situated to the east of the River Jordan, dates back to between 3500 and 1540 BC and is thought to have been suddenly abandoned.

1540BC is too recent of a Date for the twin cities of Sodom and Gomorrah.
When did the 70 year gap occur and was there evidence of fire and brimstone, which sounds like a volcano.

How many times do dates change. e.g., The age of the universe has changed more times than I can remember. A predicted date is not a game-breaker for me and it is also not absolute proof either.

I suspect Sodom and Gomorrah were destroyed much as Pompey was and that will make them hard to find unless hints from the bible and other sources lead archaeologists to there location. I find it hard to believe either was rebuilt but that cannot be ruled out.
October 28, 2015 at 3:41 pm#804278ProclaimerParticipantThe alternative is that there existed a great city around the time of Sodom that was abandoned suddenly, and was never mentioned in scripture. This too is possible.

The date of its abandonment is prior the Exodus (1406) and after the Israel and his children went down into Egypt (1875BC) so it is no surprised it is not recorded in Scripture. If it was abandoned around the time the children of Israel return that return may have been the reason since I believe the people of the land of Canaan did abandon cities before the coming of Hebrew people in some case but usually the Hebrews occupied those cities and the refugees returned after the threat of being slaughtered grew less.
