Critics have charged that passages such as John 1:18, Exodus 33:20, and Genesis 32:30 contradict one another. In John 1:18, the apostle wrote: “No one has seen God at any time.” In Exodus 33:20 God said to Moses: “You cannot see My face; for no man can see Me and live.” But Genesis 32:30 records Jacob as saying: “For I have seen God face to face, and my life is preserved.”
Help with understanding this would be greatly appreciated.

I'll try1Co 8:5 For though there be that are called gods, whether in heaven or in earth, (as there be gods many, and lords many,)
1Co 8:6 But to us there is but one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we in him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we by Him.For there BE, ~that is there ARE they that are called gods~ in heaven OR in earth. For us there is ONE GOD [the LORD GOD] Jehovah of whom are ALL things [even the other gods] and one Lord Jesus Christ BY whom are all things.
Keeping this in mind “I” read the scriptures.
Exo 3:16 Go, and gather the elders of Israel together, and say unto them, The LORD God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, of Isaac, and of Jacob, appeared unto me, saying, I have surely visited you, and seen that which is done to you in Egypt:
Lord God:

Plural of H433; gods in the ordinary sense; but specifically used (in the plural thus, especially with the article) of the supreme God; occasionally applied by way of deference to magistrates; and sometimes as a superlative: – angels, X exceeding, God (gods) (-dess, -ly), X (very) great, judges, X mighty.There are gods and there is their LORD and OUR GOD Jehovah the “self existant, ETERNAL GOD.
Joh 10:35 If he called them gods, unto whom the word of God came, and the scripture cannot be broken;
Jacob wrestled with a god…. an ANGEL of the LORD GOD JEHOVAH the SELF EXISTENT ONE….Not JEHOVAH

No man has seen Jehovah the self existent, ETERNAL GOD.And no man has seen that which was IN Jehovah the WORD, God until Jesus appeared in flesh.
Joh 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
Joh 1:18 No man hath seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared him.
