    Hi Happyman

If you are in unbelief you will not have the holy spirit. So if you don't have it, then how can you grieve it?
Only those in the faith can grieve it, those who have been given a measure.

I disagree with his definition of grieve as I grieve at the death of a sibling.

So cause not the Spirit of God, that you were sealed for redemption, to suffer mental pain for your loss or injury is my understanding of Ephesians 4:30.

    He is making another point.

1st Thess 5:14-19 has it as: 'Do not quench the Spirit'.

To put out (a fire, for example), extinguish.
To suppress, squelch, 'The disapproval of my colleagues quenched my enthusiasm for the plan'.
To put an end to, destroy.
To slake, satisfy, 'Mineral water quenched our thirst'.
To cool (hot metal) by thrusting into water or other liquid.

Question: 'Can we quench the Holy Spirit in others?'

    Hi Shimmer:

It is the work of the Spirit to sanctify us through the truth, and to quench the Spirit is to suppress this process by not wanting to hear what the Spirit is saying to you.

    Love in Christ,
    Marty
