Revelation 20 seems to indicate that it's eternal.

    Revelation 20: 7-15

    Satan's Doom

7When the thousand years are over, Satan will be released from his prison 8and will go out to deceive the nations in the four corners of the earth—Gog and Magog—to gather them for battle. In number they are like the sand on the seashore. 9They marched across the breadth of the earth and surrounded the camp of God's people, the city he loves. But fire came down from heaven and devoured them. 10And the devil, who deceived them, was thrown into the lake of burning sulfur, where the beast and the false prophet had been thrown. They will be tormented day and night for ever and ever.

    The Dead Are Judged

11Then I saw a great white throne and him who was seated on it. Earth and sky fled from his presence, and there was no place for them. 12And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Another book was opened, which is the book of life. The dead were judged according to what they had done as recorded in the books. 13The sea gave up the dead that were in it, and death and Hades gave up the dead that were in them, and each person was judged according to what he had done. 14Then death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. The lake of fire is the second death. 15If anyone's name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire.

    These verses.

    Hi Chap,

You seem to want to believe that people will be tortured for ever in hell.
Those that want to believe that god would torture millions of grandmothers, grandfathers, women and children in a hellhole of burning fire for billions and billions of years refuse to see the truth.

“For the living know that they shall die but the dead know not anything…” (Ecclesiastes 9:5).

The dead know nothing chap. How can they know torture?
Are you saying that they are dead in hell, or alive in hell?

Why do you still believe in hell?

    Hi Tim4,
    You say
“”For the living know that they shall die but the dead know not anything…” (Ecclesiastes 9:5).”
Do you think this refers to both the first and the second death?

    Hi Nick,

Yes! If you are dead in hell than you can not know that you are being burned, the dead know nothing. So if there were a hell in which to be tortured forever, the second death would have to be life of some kind in hell.

But I do not believe in eternal torment. I leave that to the christians who relish and enjoy the thought that somebody else is getting that and not them.

I have seen TV evangelists with huge smiles on their faces shouting that these people got what they deserved.

    What else would I think?

    Hi Chap,

Have you ever heard of John Hagee.
He is a well known TV Evangelist.

I watched him preach a sermon one day in which he was talking about
every man, every woman, every boy and every girl who dies without knowing Jesus Christ spends an eternity in a city where the fire is never quenched, hell.

He then made a statement regarding someone who didn't believe in Hell. He said: “You say, 'Preacher, I don't believe in Hell.' That's too bad, it's still there and you're going” The congregation then began to snicker, laugh, and then broke out into an enthusiastic applause. That's really sick! Laughing and applauding at the fancied notion that someone is going to burn in a place called hell for all eternity is sick. People who think that is funny will answer for it to God.

I'm listening to the radio, people are convicting a congressmen who used a “escort service” several years ago. This person as come out and said that he is guilty and asked God to forgive Him “years ago”. His wife has forgave him “years ago”. He ask that the people now to forgive him. But WOW! The hate is so real! They want to hang him. What does the Lord say? Forgive those so you may be forgiven! You who have no sin cast the first stone!

I would guess that their are maybe 1 out of 20 who forgive him. As for me, if God forgave him it is forgotten, it never happened. I don't perticipate in earthly government ( I don't vote) I'm not part of that system but If I were I would not hold that against him. As far as his job before this was brought to light people loved him, he was doing a good job.

If he had not asked for forgiveness and said like other politicians “I didn't do it even if caught red handed” that would be another story.

You are right Tim people are sick, they are of their father Satan. They want people to burn forever! I wonder how many of them have no sin?! Many will be in for a BIG surprise when they find themselves in Ghenna because they wanted others to burn forever!

    God bless,

    Ken
