Some questions to clarify that we are on the same “page.”
Do you believe that the lake of fire will burn people up, or that they will be there forever?
I believe that they will be there forever.
Hold I'm thinking of another question.
June 29, 2007 at 11:29 pm#57172acertainchapParticipantSo you don't believe in the trinity….then why does the Bible speak of God in plural? If you give me a good reason then I will quit believing this issue.

ACC, don't just believe one way or the other based on someone's posts. They may sound good, logical, and reasonable, but it is very important that you prayerfully consider things that will affect your walk with Christ. As has been stated here before, try to have a Berean approachActs 17:11 – Now these were more noble-minded than those in Thessalonica, for they received the word with great eagerness, examining the Scriptures daily to see whether these things were so.

Salient.ACC, this is good advice.

I second that – very good advice.Chap, get a good feel for the NT. Read it 3 or 4 times within a relatively short period of time. By the 4th reading, you should hear some of the answers to your questions…..
God's holy spirit will prompt the answers to your mind. You will be able to begin “testing” things to see whether or not they are true. But you must have the Word of God in you before you can begin this process.
Yes – see what other's know! But more than that, I encourage you to read the Word and ask for guidance from the One who can guide you in to all truth. God bless you as you do.

Good gracious chap,Don’t ever change your belief merely because someone gave you a good explanation for some verse in the bible. Your belief system should be based on much more than that.
Study the bible, many different translations of it. Pray when you do that God will help you to understand what is written. And of course it is acceptable to see how other people interpret it as well. But make up your own mind with the help of God.I will tell you why I think God is implied to be plural.
The Hebrews spoke and thought in a language that was descriptive.
They would not call an elephant and elephant. It’s name would be “a large grey animal with a long nose”.If you were asked to describe a pencil you might say that it is a long yellow piece of wood within which is held a soft carbon rod that will leave a mark on a paper substrate. Well maybe you would not describe it just that way, but forty years of being an engineer brings that description to my mind. But if you were to ask a Hebrew the same question he would say “something you write with.” That was how they thought and spoke and wrote.
So to get back to the question about the plurality of God.
Modern man has tended to think of God as a bearded old man sitting on a throne.
He is not. God is the air that we breath, the wind that blows, the sustainer of life itself. GOD IS EVERYTHING! Wouldn’t you think of everything as being plural?Tim

God is the air that we breathe?
Is God created?
God is in heaven and is manifested here by His Spirit which is over the face of the earth.July 1, 2007 at 10:35 pm#57389NickHassanParticipantQuote (acertainchap @ June 30 2007,11:29) So you don't believe in the trinity….then why does the Bible speak of God in plural? Hi ACC,
You want to know about the God of the OT.
Jesus, His Son spoke of Him.Jn 8
” 54Jesus answered, If I honour myself, my honour is nothing: it is my Father that honoureth me; of whom ye say, that he is your God:”
Do not follow presumption and inference
off the path of truth is my advice.July 1, 2007 at 10:57 pm#57392acertainchapParticipantQuote (TimothyVI @ July 01 2007,00:29) Quote (acertainchap @ June 30 2007,11:29) So you don't believe in the trinity….then why does the Bible speak of God in plural? Thanks everyone for the advice. Tim, your response is exeptional, especially the last sentence: “Wouldn’t you think of everything as being plural?” I agree with everything that you said totally but this last sentence is by far the best. I believe that this is the answer to my questions.July 2, 2007 at 12:03 pm#57501TimothyVIParticipantQuote (Nick Hassan @ July 01 2007,10:38) Hi Tim4,

HI Nick,God was not created. But within His creation He is everything.
His spirit surrounds us, dwells within us and sustains us.
He could withhold the air that you breath and you would cease breathing. My understandin of the magnitude of God has to be imagined this way in my mind.
