Does anyone have a suggestion on speeding up a church search? I am a single guy moving to Chattanooga, TN and I would prefer to not have to visit 20 churches until I find the right one. Granted, I will have to visit some, but I would like to eliminate the obvious ones.
Is there a web site that would give me worship style, average attendance, and basic doctrine of churches in a 20 mile radius? Or, something like that. That would at least get me in the ball park.

Seek ye first the kingdom of God and everything else will be added to you.[mt6]March 25, 2009 at 6:44 pm#125658ErickParticipantWow… Thanks for the inspiration….but that was no help. But it did make me laugh, thanks!

What are you shopping for, or are you looking for a place to play ball?
I don't know what you mean by the obvious once.
Why not get to know the people in your neighborhood first, talk to them, in the meantime try worshiping God at home, prayer, bible study, or even listen to some ministers on TV.Georg

The point is that unless you are established in Jesus then any old hawker of religion can make you it's slave.March 25, 2009 at 9:18 pm#125668davidParticipantQuote Hi Erick,
The point is that unless you are established in Jesus then any old hawker of religion can make you it's slave.Yes, good point Nick. The Jews who had the wrong religion although believing God was on their side (and who certainly weren't established in Jesus), were approached by Christ's disciples and became slaves to Christ and to God. This process would be repeated, as it was a command by Christ to “go and make” more disciples, and to share this life saving knowledge. (Mat 28:19,20) You should expect someone from among them to come to you (no matter where you live), bringing this good news of God's kingdom. (Mat 24:14)
March 25, 2009 at 9:28 pm#125669NickHassanParticipantHi Erick,
Yes these slaves of men will probably offer you their tasteless gruel as a substitute for the peace and joy and power in the Spirit of God that Jesus gives. But so will any tradition wish to enslave you.
Seek rebirth into the Son of God and feed on scripture and not the foul brew of tradition.
March 25, 2009 at 9:42 pm#125670NickHassanParticipantHi Erick,
There is only one church, the Body of Christ.
Human imitations falsely comfort and distract from the real way.March 25, 2009 at 11:06 pm#125671ErickParticipantOK, obviously most of you are missing the point. I have been a christian for 35 years. I'm not looking for a “deeper” relationship by way of a “forum post”…I'm just MOVING and want to find a church that fits. Thanks anyway.
May I suggest everybody lighten up a little?

Hi Erick,This cracks me up. Ya, we tend to skip over the surface swimming and go straight to the deep diving.
Quite a few here don't go to church, that's why your getting the pat answers. They have been disenchanted with organized religion.
My advice is to google your new hometown and choose a denomination that you prefer. See what pops up? I am curious as to what “obvious ones” you want to avoid? We have several different religions represented here on this forum, just fyi.
Welcome! If you stick around….you may find that this forum will add to your 35 years of knowing God.
Love,

I'd avoid the ones where the attendants are infected with memes that make them believe in absurd things. Like people walking after they have been judicially executed, or being born of a woman who had not had sex or IVF treatment.Just find a nice place where they are optimistic about human nature. Generally that means you will have to avoid christian churches.

March 27, 2009 at 6:49 pm#125804ErickParticipantThanks Mandy. Obvious ones meaning those that don't fit me (either too carasmatic or too ritualistic for my taste). Nothing wrong with those, I just want what I want.
I understand people being disenchanted. At times I have felt that way, but then I try to remember the church is greater than the people in it (including the pastor) and that christians are human (sinners) too. Too me (not for anyone else reading this) abandoning the church just because some people do stupid things is letting satan win. There, that should start another fire storm on here. 😉
Again, Thanks!
ErickMarch 28, 2009 at 10:57 am#125848kejonnParticipantMaybe one of the church goers will come to you and tell you about their church.
