Hi KW,
In Heb 6 1-2 laying on of hands is spoken of as being among the ELEMENTARY teachings of the faith.
Are you not up to date with this yet?
August 26, 2015 at 10:35 am#802515NickHassanParticipantHi KW,
If Scripture has shown you things and given witness to that truth
why do you not believe?
August 26, 2015 at 10:44 am#802516kerwinParticipantNick,
I agree that laying on of hands is an elementary part of the faith but that does not mean that it is the way the Holy Spirit and the gifts thereof are commonly given that way.
Scripture tells us very little of how the Holy Spirit and the gifts thereof are given.
August 26, 2015 at 11:10 am#802519NickHassanParticipantHi KW,
Do you think so?
Read Acts.

What is the holy spirit and when you have it you say we have the power of God to overcome our sinning nature ? Is this what you mean ?
For not all receive the holy spirit at baptism but later and some never received it ,tell me in the past 400 years do you think some received it ? How do you know ?
What was the purposes of God to give it ?
August 26, 2015 at 4:08 pm#802525kerwinParticipantNick,
I have read the “human words” of Acts and I told you what I have found. If you know of more evidence to bolster you claim then please present it. The word Paul from Romans 6 and Colossians as well as those of Peter lead me to believe that believers are born again when immersed in the name of Jesus Christ.
August 26, 2015 at 4:18 pm#802526kerwinParticipantTerrarica,
The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of God.
It has two main purposes under the new covenant one as the giver of gifts and the other as the Advocate.
Some never receive the Spirit in its role of gift giver.
The miraculous gifts spoke of in the early church are rare or non-existent today.
The Advocate is still given to those that follow the true gospel but the Advocate is not as showy as the gifts. It is a teacher and it is the fruit of its students that testify of its presence.
Yes, we do have the power to overcome our sinning nature if we do all that Jesus teaches because then the Law is written in our hearts and put within us.
August 26, 2015 at 7:29 pm#802533NickHassanParticipantHi KW,
Your trust in your own insights and refusal to accept what you saw in Acts 8 and 19 says it all.
August 27, 2015 at 12:31 am#802534terrariccaParticipantKw
The holy spirit is not God’s Spirit but is of God’s spirit do you understand the difference?
August 27, 2015 at 6:42 am#802540kerwinParticipantNick,
So you have formed your teaching on your observances of what is written in those two passages and yet one specifically mentions that the Holy Spirit gave the miraculous gift to those that received it by having their hands laid on them.
August 27, 2015 at 6:46 am#802541kerwinParticipantTerrarica,
It would not be the unity of the Spirit if it was not the Spirit.
God’s Spirit is the teacher of the human spirit.
Do you call the human spirit that has been taught by God the Holy Spirit?
God’s Spirit is the Spirit that gift to human beings.
August 27, 2015 at 7:21 am#802542NickHassanParticipantHi KW,
Simon Magus was able to see that the Spirit was given by the laying on of hands.
But somehow it escapes you?
August 27, 2015 at 2:33 pm#802557terrariccaParticipantkw
It would not be the unity of the Spirit if it was not the Spirit.
God’s Spirit is the teacher of the human spirit.
Do you call the human spirit that has been taught by God the Holy Spirit?
God’s Spirit is the Spirit that gift to human beings.
God does not give of his own person ;but he gives of his knowledge to us so we can communicate with him if we follow it ,the holy spirit and power was given for it was needed at that time but we are no longer in that time now we are in Jn 17:20 “My prayer is not for them alone. I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message,
Jn 3:21 But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what he has done has been done through God
understand we have the message that the first believers did not have
August 27, 2015 at 4:11 pm#802563NickHassanParticipantHi KW,
To combat the revelation in acts 8 and 19 about the giving of the Spirit through the laying on of hands
since you cannot accept these truths
surely you can come up with verses that show the Spirit being given at water baptism apart from Jesus?
August 28, 2015 at 5:25 am#802573kerwinParticipantNick,
You believe Simon’s thoughts imply more than they do.
Simon saw the giving of the gifts of the Spirit and was envious. That does not mean that Paul did not speak the truth when he stated a believer is buried with Christ in immersion and is raised up from that death in the newness of life.
August 28, 2015 at 5:31 am#802574kerwinParticipantTerrarica,
Do you believe the spirit of a human being is that human being?
If no then why do you believe the Spirit of God is God?
1 Corinthians 2:9-13New English Translation (NET Bible)
9 But just as it is written, “Things that no eye has seen, or ear heard, or mind imagined, are the things God has prepared for those who love him.” 10 God has revealed these to us by the Spirit. For the Spirit searches all things, even the deep things of God. 11 For who among men knows the things of a man except the man’s spirit within him? So too, no one knows the things of God except the Spirit of God. 12 Now we have not received the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, so that we may know the things that are freely given to us by God. 13 And we speak about these things, not with words taught us by human wisdom, but with those taught by the Spirit, explaining spiritual things to spiritual people.
August 28, 2015 at 5:44 am#802577NickHassanParticipantHi KW,
So how did the envy of Simon Magus change the truth of what is written and what he saw?
August 28, 2015 at 10:33 am#802580kerwinParticipantNick,
He saw something that revealed the presence of the Holy Spirit.
Do you believe the believers suddenly began being the fruits of the Spirit and Simon saw them or do you believe he saw the gifts but Scripture chooses not to mention them?
Acts 19 specifically mentions the gifts being given by the the Spirit and it is the only other passage in which the Holy Spirit was bestowed by the laying on of hands.
August 28, 2015 at 5:13 pm#802584terrariccaParticipantKw
You Don, t understand what Paul is saying
August 28, 2015 at 6:22 pm#802585kerwinParticipantTerrarica,
Paul calls the Spirit that believes receive both the Spirit of God and the Spirit from God. He also claims it knows the deep things of God because it is God’s own Spirit.
