    Hi KW,

Colossians was written to those who had entered the kingdom -of water and the Spirit.

It does not apply to those who have not been given the Spirit.

Unless you have the Spirit of Christ you are none of his.[rom8]

    Nick,

The passages from both Romans and Colossians were both were written to believers that were already immersed and received the Spirit in order to increase their faith. They teach us what occurs when a believer is immersed in water because that knowledge serves to strengthen faith.

It applies to believers whom have not yet been immersed that they too may receive the Spirit.

Do not stand in their way but instead go with them.

many did not received the holy spirit after being baptized ,even Paul told Timothy not to lay hands to quickly on new converts ,

I believe you are mix up in your understanding ;first if we give you a bible let assume you never at seen or touch one ;I can say that you hold the holy spirit of truth in your hands ;but you do not know that yet ,for Peter says ; 2PE 1:20 But know this first of all, that no prophecy of Scripture is a matter of one’s own interpretation,
2PE 1:21 for no prophecy was ever made by an act of human will, but men moved by the Holy Spirit spoke from God.

so the scriptures are the transcript of the holy spirit ,but if you are not living the truth ,you will never understand the truth ,for the truth is a language of its own given by God to all those that love him

    Hi KW,

    So you say.

But scripture does not support you as usual.

The book of acts shows many baptisms but none were said to have received the Spirit in the process.

    Terraricca,

All those that in following the true gospel are immersed in water receive the Advocate but not all are given gifts by the Spirit.

Paul urged Timothy not to neglect the gift that was given to him by the laying on of hands.

The Spirit gave gifts before Jesus was glorified but it served only as the Advocate afterwards. Do not confuse the two different missions God assigns it.

    Hi KW,

    So you say.

But scripture does not support you as usual.

The book of acts shows many baptisms but none were said to have received the Spirit in the process.

So you choose no to believe Scripture because it is not worded exactly as you demand. Take it up with God.

And you prefer your own ideas over what is written?

    Hi KW,

The receiving of the Spirit can bring gifts that make the servant able to serve.

But the Spirit should not be presumed to have been received.

    Hi KW,

Reliance on understanding rather than obedience is unwise.

Some in Acts had to wait after baptism by Philip for other apostles to come and lay hands on them.

    acts 8.14-17

You are confusing the holy spirit  of truth and the power given by God to prove the first ,

But Jesus said that those that believe in the message of his disciple will become one with them and also that those that have not seen him or his works and so believed will be blessed,

Now my question, do you need to receive the power of God to be declared a believer  ?

Do you need to receive the holy spirit of truth has some thing extra ,special ,to what is written  in the scriptures ?

    Nick,

Have you considered Phillip, as one of the Eleven, had the authority to lay hands as well but chose not to.

Even though those Samaritans had nor received the Holy Ghost we are taught that they “received the word of God”. (Acts 8:14)

So why don’t you believe they received the Advocate but had to wait for hands to be laid on them in order to receive the gifts.

It is the giving of gifts and not the teachings of the Advocate that enticed Simon into envy.

In Acts 8:36-40 there is no evidence Philip chose to lay his hands on the eunuch but the the later was eager to be immersed in water.

    Terraricca,

Those who believe reveal their belief by action just as Abraham did by preparing to sacrifice his son.

Abraham did not receive but is nevertheless a believer.

Yes, those that receive the Spirit have the power of God to overcome all their sins.

    hi KW,

Do you suggest Philip was not led by the Spirit?

Where is it written that hands are laid on JUST to impart gifts?

Does it not say to receive THE SPIRIT?

    Nick,

Do you suggest Philip was not led by the Spirit?

Philip was led by the Spirit not to lay hands on the Samaritans even though they received the Word of God.

There is no evidence Philip was led by the Spirit to lay hands on the Ethiopian Eunuch.

There is evidence he was led by the Spirit to immerse both the Samaritans and the Ethiopian Eunuch in water.

It is clear that a believe can receive the word of God without having hands laid on them.

    Nick,

It is the Holy Spirit that gives gifts.

Numbers 11:25Authorized (King James) Version (AKJV)

25 And the Lord came down in a cloud, and spake unto him, and took of the spirit that was upon him, and gave it unto the seventy elders: and it came to pass, that, when the spirit rested upon them, they prophesied, and did not cease.

1 Samuel 10:6Authorized (King James) Version (AKJV)

6 and the Spirit of the Lord will come upon thee, and thou shalt prophesy with them, and shalt be turned into another man.

In both cases the Spirit came upon these believers and it gave them gifts; specifically the gift of prophecy.

1 Corinthians 12:4Authorized (King James) Version (AKJV)

4 Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit.

    Nick,

Laying hands did not always give the Holy Spirit. (Acts 6:6, Acts 13:3, and Acts 28:8)

Acts 19:6 is when the 12 student-adherents of John the Baptist spoke in tongues and prophesied when Paul laid his hands on them and the Holy Spirit came on them.

For all I know that could be the only time it happened.

Prove that the Eleven plus Paul always laid hands on believers for believers to receive the Holy Spirit.

    Hi KW,

So you would avoid the obvious-that the Spirit was usually given by the laying on of hands -and look for exceptions to bolster your weak case?

Sharpen up and align with truth.

    Nick,

What grounds do you have the Holy Spirit was usually given by the laying on of hands?

When it was given to the Seventy Elders there was no laying on of hands.

When it was given to King Saul there was no laying on of hands.

When the Eleven and other student-followers of Jesus received it there was no laying on of hands.

When Cornelius and his household received it there was no laying on of hands.

It is the same Spirit that gave the gifts of prophecy to King Saul and the Seventy elders that later gave the gift of tongues and other gifts to the Eleven and others.

    Hi KW,

    Yes you find exceptions.

But clearly you are unfamiliar with the book of Acts.

    Nick,

I only know of two examples where Acts speaks of the Holy Spirit being given by the laying on of hands (Acts 8:18 and Acts 19:6) and of those the gifts were said to be given when it happened as well (Acts 19:6).

That means that in Scripture the Spirit it said to be received more in situation when the laying on of hands did not occur.

Do you know of other cases in Acts?
