    It actually fell in the year 1453AD, some eleven centuries later.

    In fact, there were over 90 emperors during this period of the Roman Empire. Historians called this continuation of the Roman Empire, Byzantium or the Eastern Roman Empire. This period covered both Late Antiquity and the Middle Ages. The capital city was moved from Rome to Constantinople by Emperor Constantine.
