If Jesus isn't YHWH, why does the Bible end with an appeal for Jesus to come, and then bless the reader with the grace of Jesus? YHWH is Jealous.
April 4, 2007 at 5:47 am#47355davidParticipantJesus is God's annointed one, (Christ). Jesus comes as God's executioner to render judgement.
Jehovah isn't jealous in a negative little way, the way humans are.
“Jehovah, whose name is Jealous, he is a jealous God.” (Ex 34:14)
It is a jealousy, a zeal or ardor for his holy name, concerning which he himself says: “I will show exclusive devotion for my holy name.”—Eze 39:25.
April 4, 2007 at 5:50 am#47356Tim2ParticipantDavid,
“You shall not worship any other god, for YHWH, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God.”
So YHWH's jealousy means that we can't worship any other god, or for that matter, even anyone who's not a god. So why does the Bible end with an appeal to Jesus and a pronouncement of the grace of Jesus?
Tim
April 4, 2007 at 5:57 am#47359davidParticipantIt doesn't say to “worship” Jesus.
The entire theme of the Bible (from the very first prophesy; Gen 3:15) seems to be the kingdom seed that would come, Jesus.
Quote So YHWH's jealousy means that we can't worship any other god, or for that matter, even anyone who's not a god. Right.
Quote So why does the Bible end with an appeal to Jesus and a pronouncement of the grace of Jesus? In verse 8 of the last chapter, we are told to worship God. Nowhere are we specifically told to worship Jesus. It is true that the word proskyneo has been directed to Jesus, but it must be realized that that word essentially means to “bow down” etc, and can mean to worship, but the translator must decide that, based on his bias or based on what the context indicates, depending on what the translator prefers.
April 4, 2007 at 6:16 am#47367Tim2ParticipantDavid,
You say that the entire theme of the Bible is Jesus? And you believe that Jesus isn't YHWH? And you don't think this would make YHWH jealous?
YHWH wants every knee to bow to Him -Isaiah 45:23. You don't think YHWH would be jealous by us bowing the knee to someone else?

April 4, 2007 at 6:18 am#47369davidParticipantQuote YHWH wants every knee to bow to Him -Isaiah 45:23. You don't think YHWH would be jealous by us bowing the knee to someone else? First, how do you define “jealousy” with reference to Jehovah?
April 4, 2007 at 6:30 am#47376Tim2ParticipantJealous means: -we shall not worship or serve other gods, and YHWH punishes the children of those who hate Him (Exodus 20:5); It also means YHWH will not forgive our transgression or our sins (Joshua 24:19).
Being a bond-servant of someone who you don't think is YHWH (Colossians 4:12) would thus provoke YHWH to jealousy. Bowing the knee at the name of someone other than YHWH would also provoke Him to jealousy. Honoring someone else as you honor YHWH would also provoke Him to jealousy (John 5:23).
Tim
April 4, 2007 at 6:33 am#47377davidParticipantQuote Jealous means: -we shall not worship or serve other gods, Right. While on earth, Jesus said to worship his Father. He continually directed attention and worship to his Father.
But his Father has appointed Jesus as our judge, along with the holy ones.
So, our being told that he is coming in no way detracts from Jehovah. Jesus is Jehovah's appointed one.April 4, 2007 at 6:36 am#47378charityParticipantQuote (david @ April 04 2007,07:18) Quote YHWH wants every knee to bow to Him -Isaiah 45:23. This looks like the prophecy on the day every knee shall bow?
Why dose God call his house Davids but we don't?
Zec 12:10
¶And I will pour upon the house of David, and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the spirit of grace and of supplications: and they shall look upon me whom they have pierced, and they shall mourn for him, as one mourneth for [his] only [son], and shall be in bitterness for him, as one that is in bitterness for [his] firstborn.Jhn 19:37
And again another scripture saith, They shall look on him whom they pierced.Seeking David(YHWH?) THATS KNEES SHALL BOW TO and fear God?
Hsa 3:5 Afterward shall the children of Israel return, and seek the LORD their God, and David their king; and shall fear the LORD and his goodness in the latter days.Jhn 19:37
And again another scripture saith, They shall look on him whom they pierced.
They did pierce the only Son of David And He shall be mourning for him; along with God that is overall father of bothApril 4, 2007 at 8:34 pm#47471Tim2ParticipantSo for everyone who denies that Jesus is YHWH, you believe that YHWH, whose name is Jealous, who never hides behind anyone in the OT, all of a sudden in the NT chooses to only speak through someone else, and sets up someone else as His image, and makes that person His wisdom and power, and seeks only to be glorified by people confessing that this other person is Lord?
That's not what someone who's name is Jealous would do.
April 4, 2007 at 8:41 pm#47472PhoenixParticipantHi Tim
Why would God be Jealous of someone HE (God) gave all authority to? which was Jesus.

Why would YHWH give all His authority to someone else? Why would YHWH want us to confess that someone else is Lord?

It is a matter of fact stated by Jesus and we should believe what he say if he is our master.
Why is over to God.
Christ should be your Lord if you belong to our God.[1Cor8]April 4, 2007 at 9:48 pm#47482Tim2ParticipantHi Nick,
You're right, it is a matter of fact. It's also a matter of fact that Jesus is God. John 20:28. Christ should be your God if you belong to God.

We follow him who told us to do so.

Do you follow Thomas? Jesus told his disciples, “The one who rejects you rejects Me.”

Would you say we should rather follow Thomas? Hmmm.April 5, 2007 at 1:26 am#47518Tim2ParticipantNick,
So you reject Thomas? Then you reject Jesus. Luke 10:16.

Whatever you say but I prefer to follow Jesus rather than your shortsighted view.
1Cor 8
” 3But if any man love God, the same is known of him.4As concerning therefore the eating of those things that are offered in sacrifice unto idols, we know that an idol is nothing in the world, and that there is none other God but one.
5For though there be that are called gods, whether in heaven or in earth, (as there be gods many, and lords many,)
6But to us there is but one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we in him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we by him.
