Quote (942767 @ Mar. 12 2012,08:51) Hi Kerwin: Quote Act 15:5 But there rose up certain of the sect of the Pharisees which believed, saying, That it was needful to circumcise them, and to command [them] to keep the law of Moses. Act 15:6 ¶ And the apostles and elders came together for to consider of this matter.
Act 15:7 And when there had been much disputing, Peter rose up, and said unto them, Men [and] brethren, ye know how that a good while ago God made choice among us, that the Gentiles by my mouth should hear the word of the gospel, and believe.

The gentiles lived in freedom, but that licentiousness was to cause them to be doomed to perish[rom 2.12]
The Jews were given a law to live by and feared letting go of it's comforts for the sake of faith.
The reborn sons again had freedom but freedom to obey the law of the Spirit. They too were given a new circumcision of water baptism in the name of Jesus [coll 2.11-13]so there was not command to be circumcised of flesh.

Nick,A Jew that is not circumcised of the flesh is a Gentile.
Some of the Pharisee sect among believers preached that Gentiles had to become Jews to be saved. Paul addressed that heresy; as it added to the gospel.
It is the same type of sin to teach that Jews must become Gentiles to be saved.
Circumcision is a defining practice of being a Jew and of no effect to the Spirit. The rest of the Law is the Law of the Jewish people and therefor the Authority God placed over them. Just as God instructs Gentiles in different countries to obey the authorities he placed over them; so are Jews instructed.
That is why Jewish believers were called zealous for the Law. Gentile believers are also commanded to be zealous for their own Law.

bump for Pierre and NickMarch 13, 2012 at 8:13 pm#284672NickHassanParticipantHi KW,
The new self is not of earth.
Man was made in the image of God.
That similarity did not include the body of dust.
The soul is freed from the curse of death over the dust body.
That body dies with Jesus Christ when we are baptised into his death[Rom6.3]
The Soul of man is to be given the Spirit of eternal life now [rom 6.23] and clothed with a new body soon [Rom 6.5].March 18, 2012 at 1:20 am#285703942767ParticipantQuote (kerwin @ Mar. 12 2012,20:21) Quote (942767 @ Mar. 12 2012,08:51) Hi Kerwin: Quote Act 15:5 But there rose up certain of the sect of the Pharisees which believed, saying, That it was needful to circumcise them, and to command [them] to keep the law of Moses. Hi Kerwin:The pharisees were speaking of gentile believers who had received the Holy Ghost.
You ask:
Quote Is it righteous to compel a Jew to live like a Gentile? No, but this a new covenant to both Jews and gentiles, compelling both to follow Jesus as his disciples.
Quote Jer 31:31 ¶ Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah: Jer 31:32 Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day [that] I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt; which my covenant they brake, although I was an husband unto them, saith the LORD:
Jer 31:33 But this [shall be] the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, saith the LORD, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people.

MartyMarch 18, 2012 at 6:07 am#285782kerwinParticipantMarty,
Take a look at Acts 15:5 and you will see that there was a Jewish Pharisee sect among the believers. Some individuals of that sect, but not all, were teaching the heresy that Gentiles must become Jews.
Both Jews and Gentiles are to obey the command to love but the Law is God’s Legislation for the children of Israel and the land he gave the. It is equivalent to the Law that legislatures of Gentiles make; therefore the Jews and the Gentiles both are to obey the authorities God placed over them in obedience to the command to love; even though the authorities for each is different.
The Law, which is the old covenant, is not put in the inward parts of God’s people; nor is it written on their hearts. Neither are the laws and customs of the Gentiles. To reject that which is written on your heat and what is placed in your inward parts in favor of the law and customs of either Jews or Gentiles is unrighteous.
