Brown University’s Community Newspaper States that the Sabbath Must Be Enforced Even If It Inconveniences Others

On March 31, 2025, The Brown Daily Herald, the newspaper serving the Ivy League Brown University community in Providence, Rhode Island, ran an article in which it called for Sabbath rest to be “enforced” and said that it must be “communal,” meaning that a day of rest must be imposed by force upon all members of the community. This is, in theory, the very essence and meaning of a Sunday law. The university’s community newspaper doubled down on the enforcement of the Sabbath by claiming that sacrifices must be made even if it inconveniences other people.

The Brown Daily Herald expressed the following:

    • “On Sunday afternoons, I would go to church with my friends and spend the rest of the day with them playing cards and making dumplings.” [1]

    • “To observe the Sabbath day is one of the Ten Commandments. However, in my experience, it’s the one commandment that Christians, myself included, don’t even make an effort to keep. We live in a culture that prizes the hustle and devalues rest.” [1]

    • “The purpose of the Sabbath is not to improve productivity but to eschew it.” [1]

    • “The Sabbath must be enforced, and it must be communal. Forced rest might seem like an oxymoron, but just like exercise or study, rest is something that should be done regularly, even when it isn’t convenient. Put it on your Google Calendar. A 24-hour day of rest is ideal — my Sabbath is noon on Saturday to noon on Sunday — but if you can’t do that, take 12 hours. Take three hours. Like any commitment, the Sabbath entails sacrifice.” [1]
The enforcement of a false day of rest through civil legislation will trample on the rights of conscience, compelling everyone to conform to a false system of worship under the threat of economic and social sanctions. This is the very definition of the mark of the beast. This is what many in society are trying to lead us to. Those who, faithful to God, sanctify the Sabbath, the seventh day, as opposed to Sunday, will face persecution as state power imposes religious laws that contradict God’s divine command.

True worship can never be legislated, and the Lord’s Sabbath is a sign between Him and His people, a sacred rest that stems from love and conviction, not coercion. The state may demand outward compliance, but genuine obedience to God can only come through the working of the Holy Spirit in the heart, never by the force of human law.

We truly live in a time when the following inspired statements are unfolding before our very eyes:

“False religion will be exalted. The first day of the week, a common working day, possessing no sanctity whatever, will be set up as was the image at Babylon. All nations and tongues and peoples will be commanded to worship this spurious Sabbath [Sunday]. This is Satan’s plan to make of no account the day instituted by God, and given to the world as a memorial of creation.” (Bible Commentary, Vol. 7, p. 976).

“God’s memorial, the seventh-day Sabbath, the sign of His work in creating the world, has been displaced by the man of sin. God’s people have a special work to do in repairing the breach that has been made in His law; and the nearer we approach the end, the more urgent this work becomes. All who love God will show that they bear His sign by keeping His commandments” (Testimonies, Vol. 6, p. 265).

With 43% of Project 2025 Already Enacted, America is Undergoing a Significant Christian Conservative Political Shift

The 100th day of Donald Trump’s second presidency will take place on April 30, 2025, and already 43% of Project 2025 has already been implemented, according to an online tracker. [1] If nearly half of its agenda has already been enacted, then this indicates that we are witnessing the rapid consolidation of Christian conservative policies taking firm root at various places in the federal government. This is a trajectory that is bringing our government into alignment with the Heritage Foundation’s 900-page policy blueprint, which seeks to implement an ultra-conservative political agenda.

Project 2025 explicitly seeks to make the United States more Christian by embedding religious principles into government policy and governance, reflecting a vision of a nation rooted in conservative Evangelical doctrines. The document calls for the restoration of what it describes as the “Sabbath” that was “ordained” by “God.”

Project 2025 states on page 589 the following:

    • “God ordained the Sabbath as a day of rest, and until very recently the Judeo-Christian tradition sought to honor that mandate by moral and legal regulation of work on that day. Moreover, a shared day off makes it possible for families and communities to enjoy time off together, rather than as atomized individuals, and provides a healthier cadence of life for everyone. Unfortunately, that communal day of rest has eroded under the pressures of consumerism and secularism, especially for low-income workers.” [2]
Donald Trump is pleasing Evangelicals and Catholics with the aggressive implementation of Project 2025. It’s only a matter of time before the United States bows to the power of the Church and imposes a Sunday law. Politicians do this to appease their political base. Donald Trump knows that he is the President because he relied on religious conservatives for votes and support, and by pushing policies that reflect the Church’s priorities, Trump will solidify his relationship with these groups, ensuring their loyalty and voter turnout.

Additionally, Evangelical and Catholics have played a key role in shaping Project 2025, making its implementation a direct fulfillment of their long-term goals for reshaping America’s government into their image. Leaders from both religious traditions have played a key role in authoring and supporting the initiative, viewing it as an opportunity to roll back decades of secularization and embed Christian doctrines into federal policy. These groups see Project 2025 as the culmination of their long-standing efforts to reclaim America’s identity as a Christian nation.

Throughout history, Evangelicals and Catholics have found common ground on various social and political initiatives, and this collaboration has only strengthened in recent decades, culminating in joint efforts like Project 2025. However, according to prophecy, the next major initiative of this alliance will be the enforcement of Sunday rest by law.

“When the leading churches of the United States, uniting upon such points of doctrine as are held by them in common, shall influence the state to enforce their decrees and to sustain their institutions, then Protestant America will have formed an image of the Roman hierarchy, and the infliction of civil penalties upon dissenters will inevitably result” (Great Controversy, p. 445).

“The dignitaries of church and state will unite to bribe, persuade, or compel all classes to honor the Sunday. The lack of divine authority will be supplied by oppressive enactments. Political corruption is destroying love of justice and regard for truth; and even in free America, rulers and legislators, in order to secure public favor, will yield to the popular demand for a law enforcing Sunday observance” (Great Controversy, p. 592).

Post 947260 is another example of NOT verifying what they have been told.

There is NOTHING within this Project 2025 that mandates a “sabbath observance” or even hints at such; however, this is one believing what they are told because of the source (AdventMessenger.org). When one’s source for news comes from their religion’s bias what could go wrong?!?!

For proof you have been manipulated here is the entire section written in Project 2025:

Sabbath Rest. God ordained the Sabbath as a day of rest, and until very recently the Judeo-Christian tradition sought to honor that mandate by moral and legal regulation of work on that day. Moreover, a shared day off makes it possible for families and communities to enjoy time off together, rather than as atomized individuals, and provides a healthier cadence of life for everyone. Unfortunately, that communal day of rest has eroded under the pressures of consumerism and secularism, especially for low-income workers.

Congress should encourage communal rest by amending the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA)9 to require that workers be paid time and a half for hours worked on the Sabbath. That day would default to Sunday, except for employers with a sincere religious observance of a Sabbath at a different time (e.g., Friday sundown to Saturday sundown); the obligation would transfer to that period instead. Houses of worship (to the limited extent they may have FLSA-covered employees) and employers legally required to operate around the clock (such as hospitals and first responders) would be exempt, as would workers otherwise exempt from overtime.

Alternative View. While some conservatives believe that the government should encourage certain religious observance by making it more expensive for employers and consumers to not partake in those observances, other conservatives believe that the government’s role is to protect the free exercise of religion by eliminating barriers as opposed to erecting them. Whereas imposing overtime rules on the Sabbath would lead to higher costs and limited access to goods and services and reduce work available on the Sabbath (while also incentivizing some people—through higher wages—to desire to work on the Sabbath), the proper role of government in helping to enable individuals to practice their religion is to reduce barriers to work options and to fruitful employer and employee relations. The result: ample job options that do not require work on the Sabbath so that individuals in roles that sometimes do require Sabbath work are empowered to negotiate directly with their employer to achieve their desired schedule.

Nowhere in this section does it mandate a sabbath observance. All this section says is to update the Fair Labor Standards Act to require worker to be paid time and a half for hours worked on the Sabbath; which takes an act of CONgress to modify, and NOT a presidential written wish list of hopeful accomplishments during his term in office.

All you had to do is verify what you were told and you would discover how your religion used their influence to manipulate. If your religion is willing to dupe (lie to) you with this none issue, what else are they lying to you about? I won’t get started on the “according to prophecy” comment from the article (Ellen White, a self proclaimed prophetess…really).

People can be so gullible…and this is what religion relies upon; verify everything!!!!
