    Colossians 1(Young's Literal Translation)

12Giving thanks to the Father who did make us meet for the participation of the inheritance of the saints in the light,
13who did rescue us out of the authority of the darkness, and did translate [us] into the reign of the Son of His love,
14in whom we have the redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of the sins,
15who is the image of the invisible God, first-born of all creation,
16because in him were the all things created, those in the heavens, and those upon the earth, those visible, and those invisible, whether thrones, whether lordships, whether principalities, whether authorities; all things through him, and for him, have been created,
17and himself is before all, and the all things in him have consisted.
18And himself is the head of the body — the assembly — who is a beginning, a first-born out of the dead, that he might become in all [things] — himself — first,
19because in him it did please all the fulness to tabernacle,

Note: It is actually Colossians 1:12-19 as I accidently replaced the chapter with the number of the last verse in the title.

    To all,

I would like to start this discussion of by discussing verse 12.

    Quote
    Colossians 1:12

12Giving thanks to the Father who did make us meet for the participation of the inheritance of the saints in the light,

It is my understanding that God is being thanked for our being allowed to take part in receiving and living by the Spirit of Christ.

My understanding of this line of scripture is that God is being thanked for making Paul and all whom Paul preached the gospel to be competent in or qualifying for participation in the inheritance of the holy people of God in the presence of God via the atoning sacrifice of Christ Jesus. In this letter particularly the Colossians.

Col 1:12 Giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light:

Col 1:13 Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated [us] into the kingdom of his dear Son:

In order to understand verse 12, we should go on to verse 13. Paul explains to us to give thanks to
Almighty God for delivering us out of darkness into the light of His Son, and the Inheritance of being part of the Kingdom to come. The Kingdom being Spiritual now, Christ is getting His Saints ready to reign with Him in the Millennium, to be partakers of His Kingdom.
That is what I understand about what Paul is writing…..

    To all,

I agree with Irene that we are transfered into the rulership of Jesus The King of Kings by obeying the Spirit of Christ; for Jesus speaks to us through it.

    Romans 8:23(NIV)

Not only so, but we ourselves, who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for our adoption to sonship, the redemption of our bodies.

What inheritance do you believe Paul is speaking of?

Kerwin: It appears to me the writer is giving thanks to the Father who made it possible for us to participate in the inheritance/perks/benefits of all who are heirs of salvation. The Father made us meet/able. In other words God cleansed us and made us whole in order to be able to inherit as a saint of light/God/Truth et.al.! If we beleive we experience as sons of God. I believe the inheritance Paul is speaking of is the kingdom of God that Christ Jesus our lord and master spoke of while he was fulfilling his mission while here on earth in ancient times before his ressurection.
This inheritance was perceived by most people in the times before Christ Jesus as basically only on this earth.

    Quote
    Luke 12:13-15 (King James Version)

13And one of the company said unto him, Master, speak to my brother, that he divide the inheritance with me.

14And he said unto him, Man, who made me a judge or a divider over you?

15And he said unto them, Take heed, and beware of covetousness: for a man's life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth.

    Quote
    Psalm 28:7-9 (King James Version)

7The LORD is my strength and my shield; my heart trusted in him, and I am helped: therefore my heart greatly rejoiceth; and with my song will I praise him.

8The LORD is their strength, and he is the saving strength of his anointed.

9Save thy people, and bless thine inheritance: feed them also, and lift them up for ever.

    Quote
    Psalm 33:11-32 (King James Version)

11The counsel of the LORD standeth for ever, the thoughts of his heart to all generations.

12Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD; and the people whom he hath chosen for his own inheritance.

13The LORD looketh from heaven; he beholdeth all the sons of men.

14From the place of his habitation he looketh upon all the inhabitants of the earth.

15He fashioneth their hearts alike; he considereth all their works.

16There is no king saved by the multitude of an host: a mighty man is not delivered by much strength.

17An horse is a vain thing for safety: neither shall he deliver any by his great strength.

    18Behold, the eye of the LORD is upon them that fear him, upon them that hope in his mercy;

19To deliver their soul from death, and to keep them alive in famine.

20Our soul waiteth for the LORD: he is our help and our shield.

21For our heart shall rejoice in him, because we have trusted in his holy name.

22Let thy mercy, O LORD, be upon us, according as we hope in thee.

One Christ Jesus's central messages is that of an eternal kingdom of God that exists in a heavenly realm that God's people will also inherit. Another of Christ Jesus's messages is that the kingdom of God is not perceived by observation. It is within us. Christ Jesus informs us of God's desire with these passages from the prayer he taught. Our Father who is in heaven, Your kingdom comes, Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. The inheritance is for his holy ones in this finite life on earth and for eternal life in heaven.
This is what my lord Christ Jesus, God, and the Spirit of Truth has given for me to understand as a lover of God and a disciple of Christ Jesus.

With that however, I disagree. We will not go to Heaven. God will come to earth, in the New Jerusalem…

Rev 21:1 ¶ And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea.

Rev 21:2 And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.

Rev 21:3 And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God [is] with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, [and be] their God.

Rev 21:4 And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.

Re. 5 Then He who sat on the Throne said.” Behold I make all things new.” And he said unto me, Write: for these words are true and faithful.

Rev 21:6 And he said unto me, It is done. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give unto him that is athirst of the fountain of the water of life freely.

Rev 21:7 He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son.

Rev 21:8 But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.

Rev 21:9 ¶ And there came unto me one of the seven angels which had the seven vials full of the seven last plagues, and talked with me, saying, Come hither, I will shew thee the bride, the Lamb's wife.

Rev 21:10 And he carried me away in the spirit to a great and high mountain, and shewed me that great city, the holy Jerusalem, descending out of heaven from God,

    Rev 21:11 Having the glory of God: and her light [was] like unto a stone most precious, even like a jasper stone, clear as crystal;

Rev 21:12 And had a wall great and high, [and] had twelve gates, and at the gates twelve angels, and names written thereon, which are [the names] of the twelve tribes of the children of Israel:

Rev 21:13 On the east three gates; on the north three gates; on the south three gates; and on the west three gates.

Rev 21:14 And the wall of the city had twelve foundations, and in them the names of the twelve apostles of the Lamb.

Rev 21:15 And he that talked with me had a golden reed to measure the city, and the gates thereof, and the wall thereof.

Rev 21:16 And the city lieth foursquare, and the length is as large as the breadth: and he measured the city with the reed, twelve thousand furlongs. The length and the breadth and the height of it are equal.

Rev 21:17 And he measured the wall thereof, an hundred [and] forty [and] four cubits, [according to] the measure of a man, that is, of the angel.

Rev 21:18 And the building of the wall of it was [of] jasper: and the city [was] pure gold, like unto clear glass.

Rev 21:19 And the foundations of the wall of the cit
    y [were] garnished with all manner of precious stones. The first foundation [was] jasper; the second, sapphire; the third, a chalcedony; the fourth, an emerald;
Rev 21:20 The fifth, sardonyx; the sixth, sardius; the seventh, chrysolite; the eighth, beryl; the ninth, a topaz; the tenth, a chrysoprasus; the eleventh, a jacinth; the twelfth, an amethyst.
Rev 21:21 And the twelve gates [were] twelve pearls; every several gate was of one pearl: and the street of the city [was] pure gold, as it were transparent glass.

Rev 21:22 ¶ And I saw no temple therein: for the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are the temple of it.

Rev 21:23 And the city had no need of the sun, neither of the moon, to shine in it: for the glory of God did lighten it, and the Lamb [is] the light thereof.

Rev 21:24 And the nations of them which are saved shall walk in the light of it: and the kings of the earth do bring their glory and honour into it.

Rev 21:25 And the gates of it shall not be shut at all by day: for there shall be no night there.

Rev 21:26 And they shall bring the glory and honour of the nations into it.
Rev 21:27 And there shall in no wise enter into it any thing that defileth, neither [whatsoever] worketh abomination, or [maketh] a lie: but they which are written in the Lamb's book of life.

Also, this earth will be renewed, look at this Scripture

Mal 4:1 ¶ For, behold, the day cometh, that shall burn as an oven; and all the proud, yea, and all that do wickedly, shall be stubble: and the day that cometh shall burn them up, saith the LORD of hosts, that it shall leave them neither root nor branch.
Mal 4:2 But unto you that fear my name shall the Sun of righteousness arise with healing in his wings; and ye shall go forth, and grow up as calves of the stall.
Mal 4:3 And ye shall tread down the wicked; for they shall be ashes under the soles of your feet in the day that I shall do [this], saith the LORD of hosts.
    Peace Irene
