'There was a man of the Pharisees named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews. This man came to Jesus by night and said to Him, “Rabbi, we know that You are a teacher come from God; for no one can do these signs that You do unless God is with him.” Jesus answered and said to him, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.” Nicodemus said to Him, “How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother’s womb and be born?” Jesus answered, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Do not marvel that I said to you, ‘You must be born again’ ” (John 3:1-7, emp. added).
In an effort to avoid identifying “water” (vs. 5) as water baptism, many within Christendom in the last half century have proposed a variety of novel interpretations. For example, some have proposed that “water” is a reference to the Holy Spirit. While it certainly is true that John uses the word “water” symbolically to represent the Spirit later in his book (7:38-39), that fact had to be explained by the inspired writer. However, in chapter three, the normal, literal meaning is clearly in view, not only because water baptism throughout the New Testament is consistently associated with the salvation event (e.g., Acts 2:38; 8:12-13,36-38; 9:18; 10:47-48; 16:15,33; 18:8; 19:5; 22:16; Romans 6:3-4; Galatians 3:27; Colossians 2:12; Hebrews 10:22; 1 Peter 3:21), but even in this context, eighteen verses later, the term clearly has a literal meaning: “Now John also was baptizing in Aenon near Salim, because there was much water there” (John 3:23). Additionally, if “water” in John 3:5 is an allusion to the Holy Spirit, the result would be nonsensical: “unless one is born of the Spirit and the Spirit.”More can be read here:

I see no need to keep arguing about this topic, so I'll leave it to the rest of you. As with many scriptural topics, there are different ways to understand certain words.
It is clear that you and Pierre and 2B are taking Jesus' words in John 3 to be METAPHORICAL. I do not take them that way.
Who's right, and who's wrong? We can beat each other up over it for months without ever getting closer to the actual truth of it.
For right now, I will agree to disagree with you, Pierre, and 2B. No harm done.
Excuse me but I do not agree that the kingdom of God is here because God does not dwell with sin and the world is full of sin, though God is with His people in spirit.
So you put me in the wrong group.

'Perhaps the most popular notion, advanced only in recent years, is that “water” is a reference to a pregnant woman’s “water”—i.e., the amniotic fluid that accompanies the physical birth of a child. However, this suggestion likewise fails to fit the context of Jesus’ remarks. In fact, Nicodemus himself thought that Jesus was referring to physical birth (“mother’s womb”). But Jesus corrected his misconception, and contrasted such thinking with the intended meaning of “water and Spirit.” Indeed, Jesus would not have told Nicodemus that he needed to be born physically (“water”). He would not have included the act of physical birth in His listing of prerequisites to entering the kingdom. That would make Jesus say that before a person can enter the kingdom he or she must first be a person! What would be the point of stating such a thing? [Would it perhaps be to ensure that everyone understands that non-humans (i.e., animals) cannot enter the kingdom?!] Later in the same chapter, did John baptize near Salim “because there was much amniotic fluid there”?

Jesus said 'Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit'. So that should answer your question. And all commentaries understand this to mean water baptism.
January 3, 2013 at 11:07 am#3266662beseeParticipantActs 2:38 'Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.”

I believe that we can “see” God in Spirit, this is not our eyes though, it is our spirit.
The Kingdom of God is still to come. Being born again is being as if we are born again. We have to grow and learn.

Pierre,To taste death is to know that you are dying.
Jesus said there are some standing there that will not taste death till they see the kingdom of God.This can apply to them back then, and also us now.
Those ones who were ashamed of Christ and his words back then are dead. Death sometimes gives no warning. It's easy. Close your eyes and go for a long sleep. To taste death is to know you are going to DIE. We all know that we die once. But some do not realise that there is a 2nd death. They think that they can do all the evil they can, then die and get away with it.
At the 2nd resurrection, all those who were ashamed of Christ and his words will find out what it is like to taste death, as they will receive their sentence…..into the lake of fire you go. That is the 2nd death. They will taste death then. THE SECOND DEATH. They will know it's coming, because our Lord will definately let them know he's sending them there.

j42what you say is not right ,think about it ;To taste death is to know that you are dying.; this is not what it is ,we all know that we will die ,this is NOT the taste of dead ,the taste of dead means dying in your sins ,without knowing if their is anything after for you ,
but for the true believer in truth and spirit God let them know through Christ and his holy spirit ,and so they do not taste dead ,
Quote At the 2nd resurrection, all those who were ashamed of Christ and his words will find out what it is like to taste death, as they will receive their sentence…..into the lake of fire you go. They will know it's coming, because our Lord will definately let them know he's sending them there. this also does not seems right to me according to scriptures ,in the second resurrection ALL PEOPLE THAT WERE NOT IN THE FIRST RESURRECTION WILL BE IN THERE ;
because this is the resurrection of judgment according to what we have done or not done and should have done ,so all human ever lived will be there ,but God plan is not to start all over with them they will have only limited time to change and make up their mind and heart for Christ ,and their will be some that will not change and for those the second dead will be waiting
