What's your point? The U.S. constitution is a covenant with the citizens of the U.S. (ideally). When a foreigner becomes a U.S. citizen he or she adopts the covenant. No degree in rocket science is needed my friend.

I can imagine that as a line from the Godfather. If your Imaginary Friend ran his 'kingdom' like a mafia family it would be entirely consistent with the indiscriminate and petulant killings in the OT.
Maybe Saul of Tarsus is a more effective press agent.

Clowning about religion is a serious business. If something cannot stand satire of mockery (and religions shy from it or respond with violence as much as any dictatorship does) then you should treat it with great suspicion. Whatever the colour of your stripe or opinion of our political leaders in Western democracies, they put up with a lot of mockery and do so for the health of those democracies.Christianity is not a democracy and it is not a healthy way of telling people what they should do if it cannot survive such challenges. You were warned by Paul to expect mockery but then he went on to condemn, in the most earnest and chilling manner, those who mock. That is the sign of a dictatorship that does not necessarily hold the wellbeing of the people at heart, and we know that christianity does put people second.
So, if you have nothing more than assertion of your beliefs and you cannot reason out a justification for them in universal terms you will always be a fringe element. I guess that is why there are christian groups who form (sometimes violent) hate campaigns against others they percieve to be evil: their bigoted unreasoning voices are ignored by the mainstream so they get angry and lash out.

September 7, 2009 at 1:03 pm#144870Stu
ParticipantI would like to do that. It is not me preaching from a book that condemns non-believers to death. I do not tell the rest of the world that there is something wrong with them that only my brand of magic can cure.
Perhaps if christians gave up some of their wrong nonsense, there could be even more harmony than there already is.

Stu, no one condemns non believers to death. The non believer does that to himself. God gave you a way out, if you will accept it. If someone ends up in Hell, it is because they cannot admit they are a sinner and need a Savior. But we all have sinned. It took me so long to see that. I was 38 when I turned from being an atheist and actually set down and read the Bible. The thing about the Bible is, it is a living book. It comes alive in your hands as you read it if you are really seeking truth and not just going through the motions. Most atheists are not seeking the truth. Seek and you shall find is a promise from God.
Now why would they spend so much of their time trying to convince others there is no God if somewhere down deep inside, they did not have doubts? God says everyone has all they need to believe that he exists. That only a fool would say there is no God. My Mama didn't raise any fools.. How about yours?

Well I am an atheist and I have not condemned myself to death. What a load of dribble. At what megachurch did you rote-learn that platitude?
[quoteGod gave you a way out, if you will accept it.
There are no such things as gods. How silly you are. I don’t need a way out of anything, I am fine thanks. Really.Quote If someone ends up in Hell, it is because they cannot admit they are a sinner and need a Savior.
There is no such thing as hell, either. Of course those who want power and glory are happy for you to believe their bluff of hell. I am in no need of a nasty philosophy of men that says there is something wrong with me that will be cured if I accept a human sacrifice in my name.Quote But we all have sinned.
I haven’t. Put up some evidence of any wrongdoing you are accusing me of, or have a think about why you should not be served with a summons for libel.Quote It took me so long to see that. I was 38 when I turned from being an atheist and actually set down and read the Bible.
That is very unusual: usually it is theists who read the bible and become atheist because they realise what a load of fantasy nonsense it is. How did things go so horribly wrong for you?Quote The thing about the Bible is, it is a living book. It comes alive in your hands as you read it if you are really seeking truth and not just going through the motions.
And the stars twinkle and fairyland seems so bright and sparkly.Quote Most atheists are not seeking the truth.
Gee you are really full of yourself, aren’t you. I never read the verse in the bible that commands believers to patronise others like this. I guess I must have slept though that reading.Quote Seek and you shall find is a promise from God.
If there is a god, then all the seeking I have ever done about anything has taught me that gods are the inventions of humans. There are 2.1 billion Judeo-christian gods, one inside the head of each believer. That is the only existence they have, in the imagination.Quote Now why would they spend so much of their time trying to convince others there is no God if somewhere down deep inside, they did not have doubts?
It is exactly the doubts that make me cautious about believing anything. Clearly you do not have such high standards.Quote God says everyone has all they need to believe that he exists.
You don’t know anything about any gods. You only think you do.Quote That only a fool would say there is no God. My Mama didn't raise any fools.. How about yours?
You were an atheist for 38 years, you said. Clearly yo’ mama DID raise a fool. She certainly ain’t taught you no manners ma’am.Actually I speak with a New Zealand accent, so you will have to forgive my attempts at writing in Southern baptist drawl.
I am sure you were more considerate and courteous as a non-believer. It seems that christianity brings out the worst in both of us.
