The Lord himself, warns in scripture that in the last days many shall come in his name claiming that he is indeed the Christ, and yet they will deceive many. Believe me, there are many like that, and I do not believe that most of them know they are deceivers. I can tell you a characteristic I have seen in all those whom I have met – they quit while on their journey, stopping short of their destiny. It takes faith to keep going, and they choose to follow fear rather than faith. They begin to think that fear is faith and actually see the walls of fear around their prisons as strongholds of truth. Fear will do that to your vision, and you can start to see strongholds that way. Few of these people are really dishonest. They are sincere, but they are deceived by one of the most powerful deceptions, the fear of deception.

It seems interesting to me that those who fear deception cannot be acting in faith, rather fear.
It also seems fitting that most who claim to be cult busters actually do not realise that they are also in a cult.Often you hear of or read things from people who expose cults and often hold up the Trinity doctrine as the standard.
I think that it is healthy to be aware of deception and to be careful to not fall into it, but fearing deception is not the answer.
It's like saying that the fear of darkness helps us overcome darkness. But in truth it is light that dispels darkness.
If fear of the enemy is the reason for our decisions, then who really is such a person being led by?
If people think that God's will is doing the opposite of the world and darkness, then they are not being led by the Spirit, rather they are reacting to the Devil.

Fear of failure stops people trying.
Fear of falling stops then walking.
Fear of drowning stops them moving into the current of the Spirit.
Fear of ridicule stops them daring to be different.
Fear of lonliness makes them hold the hands of fools
Fear of losing control stops us letting the Spirit lead us.Ps 34
