Then what do you make of this (which is the verse that came to my mind when I read Zechariah 2):John 4.
[19] The woman said to him, “Sir, I perceive that you are a prophet.
[20] Our fathers worshiped on this mountain; and you say that in Jerusalem is the place where men ought to worship.”
[21] Jesus said to her, “Woman, believe me, the hour is coming when neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem will you worship the Father.
[22] You worship what you do not know; we worship what we know, for salvation is from the Jews.
[23] But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for such the Father seeks to worship him.

Walls are boundaries, borders.
There are walls, gates, and boundaries in Jerusalem today.
There are guards with guns protecting Jerusalem's border.
God is not their defence,
Israeli's military are their only defence now.
The prophets of old were sent to Israel. The prophet Zechariah was speaking to Israel. God was Israel's defence when he delivered them from Egypt. But they have gone astray, and now, all they have known is war.
They defend themselves.
Zechariah was speaking to Israel as a nation.
It does not mean spiritual Israel,
but to them, a future prophecy.
All of them back then are dead now, and most will not see.
but the ones to be brought back in the flesh will see this prophecy fulfilled, and God's word spoken through Zechariah will be proven true.
This information is also revealed to all of us who search, because God is sharing with us what his plan is. We will be a big part of it. The saints will be there teaching the Israelites in the 1000 year kingdom.

Ok, but if you answer and say that Jerusalem is inhabited without walls spiritually then why is the persecution of the saints coming? We believers are spiritual Israel.

Death is just a tiny part of it. We all die eventually. But after death is what we preach, that there is life, …..and death will have no hold over us ever again. We will conquer death as our Lord did, and reign with him. What a magnificent reward. To meet our Lord face to face and talk with him. We cannot imagine it can we? For this is to glorious to even comprehend…but it will happen if we endure.

Confirmation again, and proof that they have never been at peace. God is speaking to the nation Israel. Not the spiritual Israelites.
