In 2 Corinthians 6:14, it says:
Do not be yoked together with unbelievers. For what do righteousness and wickedness have in common? Or what fellowship can light have with darkness?
Many people have different views of this passage…what exactly does it mean? i mean, i think i know, but at the same time, it confuses me, even though its so self explanetory…August 9, 2004 at 11:06 pm#34684NickHassanParticipantIf you think about a yoke as it affects oxen pulling a cart it restricts freedom, it forces unity with the other ox and it produces work for someone else, the driver.
In the OT it describes slavery, oppression but also the Law as in Acts 15.10 and Gal 5.1.
In the NT there is a yoke in Matt 11.28-30 and it is easy.
In 2 Cor 6 to be yoked with unbelievers applies to judaism, idolatry and false religious systems such as the whore of Babylon. When we are saved we repent of all that stuff though it often takes a while to let it all go.The same warning from revelation about the whore appears in 2 cor 6.17 so it certainly applies to this verse.
It does not apply to marriage or business dealings as far as I can find in the Word.

David are all JWs a temple of God or just the 144k? Just curious.

Those who would exclude fellowship with others on the basis of this scripture had better ensure first that they themselves have both feet in the kingdom and they are not just tagging along with a religious denomination and their false ways.February 3, 2008 at 8:37 pm#80683seek and you will findParticipantNick What does darkness have to do with light? Since we have an Atheist here on our Website should we engage ourself with their theory? I don't think so. On another tread I wrote Love them yes, but agree with them, No. Jesus has delivered us from darkness and I want to stay in the light. Let our light shine, rather then judge others. God the Father has to do the calling. He draws people to the truth, we can not. All we can do is to be an example to them.
Peace and Love Mrs.

Many demand to be accepted as brothers but only those in Christ are scripturally kin. - AuthorPosts
