For all who are being led by the Spirit of God are sons of God.
For you have not received a spirit of slavery leading to fear again,
but you have received a spirit of adoption as sons by which we cry out

We have not received the Spirit of a man but the Holy Spirit of God

16 The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:
God’s Spirit is not made of the dust of the earth like our is. Our spirit needs God’s Spirit, God through the work of His Spirit is able to renews our human spirit, He can work faith into our spirit, and truth, and knowledge and wisdom, patience, understanding, kindness, self control. He can take a man whose spirit is full of jealousy and give that man understanding, He can take a human spirit that is full of hate and give it love. God can renew our spirit, change our spirit, teach our spirit. Being mortal our slavery is that we must serve ourselves in order to stay alive. But if our spirit is led by God’s Spirit we have faith in eternal life and not fear of death. We are promised to receive God’s Spirit that gives us eternal life. With that Spirit of eternal life, we no longer by nature fear death our bodies are changes which thus affects our spirit.
Example,
Mortal humans have to eat in order to live, if a man is desperate to fill this natural need, he might find himself tempted to steal from his neighbor, or even murder his neighbor. When the natural state of hunger sets in it has an impact on his spirit he devises ways to get food, he reasons in his spirit, he decides to kill the old man instead of the strong man for two reasons, it will be easier to kill the weak old man verses the strong man, and the weak old man seems about to die anyway, whereas the strong man has a family to take care of. When a man has eternal life he no longer must eat in order to live, there is no temptation, the spirit in man does not have to reason and devise a plan to get food.
The spirit of a man Paul was talking about was specifically the spirit of a mortal man that is by nature enslaved by his fear of death and by his ignorance of God.

the human spirit that has been taught by God is no longer of a carnal mind, it has been renewed and has been made into a spiritual mind.
