If the Jews reject Jesus as the messiah, should we too?

Not Messiah?

If you read the Old and New testaments, it seems almost certain that the Jews would reject Jesus as their messiah. Why is that? Because the Bible is full of examples where the Jews persecuted and killed the prophets that were sent to them.

Jesus gave a parable to the people about this:

And the vinedressers took his servants, beat one, killed one, and stoned another. Again he sent other servants, more than the first, and they did likewise to them. Then last of all he sent his son to them, saying, ‘They will respect my son.’ But when the vinedressers saw the son, they said among themselves, ‘This is the heir. Come, let us kill him and seize his inheritance.’ So they took him and cast him out of the vineyard and killed him. ‘Therefore, when the owner of the vineyard comes, what will he do to those vinedressers?’ They said to Him, ‘He will destroy those wicked men miserably, and lease his vineyard to other vinedressers who will render to him the fruits in their seasons.’ Jesus said to them, “Have you never read in the Scriptures:
‘ The stone which the builders rejected
Has become the chief cornerstone.
This was the LORD’s doing,
And it is marvelous in our eyes’? “Therefore I say to you, the kingdom of God will be taken from you and given to a nation bearing the fruits of it. And whoever falls on this stone will be broken; but on whomever it falls, it will grind him to powder.”

Jesus also said that he would be hated and so will those that follow him:

“If the world hates you, you know that it hated Me before it hated you. If you were of the world, the world would love its own. Yet because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you.

Jesus actually said quite a lot regarding this subject.

‘O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the one who kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to her! How often I wanted to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her brood under her wings, but you were not willing!

Paul too spoke on this subject.

For you, brothers and sisters, became imitators of God’s churches in Judea, which are in Christ Jesus: You suffered from your own people the same things those churches suffered from the Jews who killed the Lord Jesus and the prophets and also drove us out. They displease God and are hostile to everyone in their effort to keep us from speaking to the Gentiles so that they may be saved. In this way they always heap up their sins to the limit. The wrath of God has come upon them at last.

And Paul explains why there is enmity toward God and by extension the things of God.

Because the carnal mind is enmity against God; for it is not subject to the law of God, nor indeed can be.

We even read about this persecution of the prophets in the Old Testament. For example, we read this about Elijah who predated the Jewish people.

Then Elijah said to the people, “I alone am left a prophet of the LORD; but Baal’s prophets are four hundred and fifty men.

But there is a silver lining to being persecuted by the world according to Jesus.

Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, For theirs is the kingdom of heaven. “Blessed are you when they revile and persecute you, and say all kinds of evil against you falsely for My sake. Rejoice and be exceedingly glad, for great is your reward in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you.

Now we know that whatever the Law says, it speaks to those under the Law so that every mouth may be closed and all the world may become accountable to God; because by the works of the Law no flesh will be justified in His sight; for through the Law comes the knowledge of sin.

    Rom 3.19

Christ is the end of the Law for righteousness.

Gentiles were never under the Law yet folks try to hawk it as essential to salvation.

Sure enough tithing and sabbath keeping are tossed into the requirements.

The Son of God is Lord of the Sabbath.

In him we have fulfilled all the requirements of the Law.

Therefore repent and return , so that your sins may be wiped away in order that times of refreshment may come from the presence of the Lord, and that He may send you Jesus, the Christ appointed to you, whom heaven must receive till the period of restoration of all things about which God spoke by the mouth of His holy prophets from ancient times.

    Acts 3.19

Ananias was in Christ and was sent to Paul to bring him into the kingdom too. Jesus went to Paul and we too can be ambassadors of Christ and the kingdom too if we are baptised into Christ in his name.

    Nick…..ANOTHER AMEN, Brother.  Good post.

We are no longer under any “law”,  (forced compliance). But we who have repented and been baptized into Christ Jesus,  by the working of the “Christo’s” of God, (anointing spirit of God). “are a new creation created unto good works”.   just as it says,   “For he (God the Father) works in us “BOTH” to Will and do of “his” good pleasure”,

This is the way I see it Nick,   Scripture says (not me) …..Mica 6:8…..”He has shewed you, O man, what is good; and what does the LORD require of you, but  to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God”
There are ‘Only ” three thing mentioned there,

    1……..do justly

    2……..love mercy

    3……..walk humbly with your God.

All the rest was add, I ask people all the time to tell me what, sabbath days did Abraham, Issac and Jacob keep, what church did they attend?
All that “law” (forced compliance)   was added to them because of thei disobedience .  Those who are being guided by the Anointing Spirit of God, are not under any law, but live by the love of God poured out into their hearts by the “anointing spirit”,  Of God,  and they have. Need of any law or anyone to teach them either. Because the Holy Spirit they have received from God the Father, teaches them all things.

    Yes Gene,

The reverse of the coin. The law reveals sin only.

And we now have the new circumcision- true baptism in the name of Jesus- col2.11

    Born of the Spirit

“That which is born of the flesh is flesh and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit” (John 3:6).

Only the Spirit of the living God can take dry bones, dead in trespasses and rebellion against God, and make them spiritually alive.

Therefore no one is to act as your judge in regard to food or drink or in respect to a festival or a new moon or a sabbath day- things which are a mere shadow of what is to come; but the substance belongs to Christ.

    1John.5
[1] Whosoever believeth that Jesus is the Christ is born of God: and every one that loveth him that begat loveth him also that is begotten of him.
[2] By this we know that we love the children of God,👉 when we love God, and keep 👉his commandments.👈
[3] For👉 this is the love of God, that 👉we keep his commandments:👈 and his commandments are not grievous.
[4] For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith.👈

Jesus Christ is the Lord of the Sabbath.

If this absolves us from the Sabbath, then what happens when we consider that Jesus is Lord of all? Are we absolved of all?

I hear you though Nick because what you say is written. But it is somewhat confusing for Believers. Especially since the Sabbath is a commandment.

Of course there is the argument that the commandments were not given to the Gentiles but to the Jews. What we were given is the gospel.

To all…..Jesus said this (not me). …..“the Sabbath was made “for” man, not man for the Sabbath”.   So it stands to reason if Jesus is lord of the Sabbath, then so are we. We can use the Sabbath as we see fit, if we take  the Sabbath day rest our souls are refreshed, we are blessed , if we don’t,  it’s our lose.   God made it for us,  not us for it. We are lords of the Sabbath, just as Jesus was and is “also”.

You will never see written in the Bible that man is lord of the Sabbath because Jesus is lord of the Sabbath.
Only Jesus is Lord of the Sabbath and no wonder God created all things By Him and He alone can give us true rest.

The offer of God is for men to be eternally joined with His Son in his body, in his death and in his resurrection. If we have taken up that opportunity then why do folks try to go back and try to please God by obedience to the Law which the Son has already fulfilled perfectly?
