t8,
The wording and sentence structure is purposeful.
I am well aware that the definite article is used before logos but I have no idea why you believe that proves it is a name and not the actual word that is being spoken about.

Nick,
Hi KW,
The words I speak to you, they are spirit and they are life.
Faith comes by hearing, hearing the word of God.
Yet men exalt the written record.
That means faith is based on evidence with the word being the evidence.

t8,
Instead of Jesus saying, something like, “oh you misunderstand, I saw this in a vision” or “my Father told me so” or some other reason that doesn’t point to the pre-existence of Jesus. Instead, he solidifies their suspicion with the words: “Truly, truly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I am”.
You are speculating on how Jesus would c…[Read more]

t8,
I disagree with Nick on the when but it is clear that ever since the Word has taken on the qualities of humanity Jesus Christ has been the word.
Nevertheless it is assumed that Revelations 19:11-19 is speaking of Jesus but since it is symbolic we cannot be sure as it may actually be talking about God’s word. As God’s Word has taken on the…[Read more]

Nick,
I do not know what it will be like to be in a immortal body since I am not in one. My body is still subject to decay.
kerwin replied to the topic in the forum JOHN 1:1 who is the WORD? 10 years, 3 months ago
Nick,
Hi KW,
If your mortal body is your hoped for inheritance then your focus should be on maintenance.
Designed to last only 70-80 years it will need a major refit to last for eternity.
Martyrdom by beheading etc is out of the question.
All this tells me is that you do not yet believe Scripture for all things are possible by God.
Why…[Read more]

Nick,
I believe there is more than just dying if the KJV choice of translation is correct. His words apear to be an answer to the question what about when a bodied is turned to ashes?
Paul is dead and that is enough to render the “if” true according to some translations.

t8,
It is possible but I have not seen it where Jews of that age called the Messiah Logos. I have seen where they said The word of God has the characteristics of God.
kerwin replied to the topic in the forum JOHN 1:1 who is the WORD? 10 years, 3 months ago
Nick,
2 Corinthians 5:1 of the KJV. Other versions paraphrase the same words.

t8,
“Your father Abraham rejoiced that he would see my day. He saw it and was glad.”
This implies Abraham saw Jesus’ day after he rejoiced as “would see” is speaking of something that will be seen in the future.
The Jews misinterpreted his words.

1 Corinthians 15:52
kerwin replied to the topic in the forum JOHN 1:1 who is the WORD? 10 years, 3 months ago
Nick,
Paul said “we will be changed”. (1 Corinthians 15:52)
Somme translations use the synonym “transformed”.
I spoke loosely about the dead having a body in heaven as Paul only testified that those whose body has dissolved have a body in heaven.
kerwin replied to the topic in the forum JOHN 1:1 who is the WORD? 10 years, 3 months ago
Nick,
Spiritually those in Christ are a new creature though they are still living their mortal lives.
kerwin replied to the topic in the forum JOHN 1:1 who is the WORD? 10 years, 3 months ago
Nick,
Scripture does not say the new body is inherited. It instead states the body changes. (1 Corinthians 15:52) It tells us the dead will be raised imperishable as they have a body in heaven.
kerwin replied to the topic in the forum JOHN 1:1 who is the WORD? 10 years, 3 months ago
Nick,
The mortal body puts on life when it is quickened by the Spirit and so that which was perishable puts on the imperishable.
kerwin replied to the topic in the forum JOHN 1:1 who is the WORD? 10 years, 3 months ago
Nick,
It is not your paraphrase that is the error it is changing the meaning. Paul did not testify the old body would pass away but instead said if it should then there is a body presently in heaven.kerwin replied to the topic in the forum JOHN 1:1 who is the WORD? 10 years, 3 months ago
Nick,
Nerveless, you misquoted him.
The “new” is fine because the heavenly body is the new body but missing the “if” changes the meaning of his words.
kerwin replied to the topic in the forum JOHN 1:1 who is the WORD? 10 years, 3 months ago
Nick,
You are misquoting Paul as he used the word “if” and did not use the word “new”.
kerwin replied to the topic in the forum JOHN 1:1 who is the WORD? 10 years, 3 months ago
Nick,
The new creation is of the Spirit; the body is irrelevant.
kerwin replied to the topic in the forum JOHN 1:1 who is the WORD? 10 years, 3 months ago
Nick,
Hi KW,
No-you claim he was raised to heaven in the body he was buried in.
flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom.
The flesh body is of earth and is corruptible.
Have you not read that the creature will be delivered from servitude to corruption? (Romans 8:21)
